January 2020 TBR!

One of my little goals in 2020 is to stick to a TBR a little more. Being a mood reader is a total pain in the ass though! It’s so hard to set aside books that you want to read and then not be in the mood for them. I’m hoping that if I really push myself to stick to a TBR that it will stop me from getting into a reading slump and just not picking anything at all!

Like every single January I am in the mood to read EVERYTHING! After hauling over 20 books in December, I have just about everything to choose from! Since this is being posted later than normal, I’ve actually already read some of these 🙂

I figured that I would start off with the two books from my TBR that i’ve already read. Come Tumbling Down by Seanan McGuire is actually a reread. I read it back when I got it in November but decided to reread it closer to the release date. It totally redeemed the Jack and Jill story for me! Click HERE for the review. Next we have Starsight by Brandon Sanderson. I didn’t like this one as much as the first book in the series (Skyward)…. at all in fact. It was ok, but it was nowhere near as good as the first book was. The plot had a lot to do with me not being able to connect to it. I’ll explain more in my review that will be posted on Monday. Spoiler alert – I rant on it a little hard with some possible unpopular opinions….. sorry, not sorry!

The number one book I was most excited to read was The Gutter Prayer by Gareth Harrahan, sent to me by my bookish twin from across the pond Justine, she assured me that this was one of her favourites of 2019 and was weird but amazing – right up my alley!! I’ve already started this and have to agree that it’s a little weird….. there are wax candle people?? All I can picture is a whole bunch of people walking around all melting with candle flames for eye balls…… Next I plan to read Serpent and Dove by Shelby Mahurin. At the Harper Collins fall preview event they were all gushing about the hate to love romance – I need that in my life right now!!

If I don’t read The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E Harrow in January then I am an epic failure that needs to be taken into the backyard and shot. January is in the freaking title! If I don’t read it this month then I give up on this one lol. The next book is the perfect reminder of the Off The Grid Readathon that me and Justine will be hosting from January 17th – 19th (For all the dates and details click HERE) and Tilly and the Lost Fairytales by Anna James is a book i’ve chosen for that TBR. I read the first book in the series all in one day and hope to do the same with this one 🙂

The stars we steal

And lastly we have The Stars We Steal by Alexa Donne. This one publishes in February but I hope to get a head start on my ARC’s and get this one read. All I know is that there are princesses, space ships, a whiskey runner, and an old flame romance….. I can’t wait for this one!!

There’s all the books that I hope to read in January. I said I was going to choose a book to reread each month and I’ve already done that this month by reading Come Tumbling Down. Next month I will choose a book from my reread jar. I’ve been in a massive reading mood so I hope that there will be even more books showing up in my wrap up 🙂

What books are you planning on reading in January?

Until next time, happy reading!

  2. This looks like such a fun TBR ☺️ I’m a mood reader too but most of my reading will be for my classes these next few months
