MASSIVE December 2019 Book Haul!

Like every December, I went a little crazy with the book buying! I didn’t get a single book from Santa (what an asshole) but I did get money and gift cards! Then Chapters had a HUGE sale where the hardcovers were 30% off and I signed up to Plum Plus and got another 10% off everything…… it all went downhill from there….. I hauled an impressive 21 books in December…..  There’s a lot to show you so settle in – this is going to be a long one!

The stars we steal

The first book I need to talk about is the ARC I received from Raincoast Books Canada – The Stars We Steal by Alexa Donne. All I know is that this book deals with the Princess of a European spaceship who desperately needs to find a husband to save her family from financial ruin. She runs into her first love, who just so happens to run a successful whisky ship and is now a sought after suitor, who insists on being a pain in her ass. Yes please!

Santa might not have gotten me anything, but Justine from the YouTube channel and blog I Should Read That did!!! She sent me The Gutter Prayer by Gareth Harrahan! I am soooooooo thankful for this! I almost cried when it arrived. I know that she loved it and I couldn’t find it when I went on my shopping spree. I am dying to get to this!! Next is the list of books I picked up on my shopping spree. I HAD to get Starlight by Brandon Sanderson, which is the sequel to Skyward. I’ve actually already read it and I’m not going to lie – it was nowhere near as good as the first one, but it was still good!

Speaking of sequels, here are a few more! Children of Virtue and Vengeance by Tomi Adeyemi is one that I’ve been dying for only to know if my theories are right lol. I might have to reread the first one because I don’t really remember a lot of what happened. The Dragon Republic by R.F. Kuang is one that I’ve needed in my life because the main character is a total bad ass and the author is so unforgiving and willingly puts her characters through hell!

These two books are VERY special to me. The Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch is the third book to the gentleman bastard series….. but I picked it up in the gorgeous printed hardcover edition! I can’t wait to see what else Locke and Jean have up their sleeves! Then I picked up The Inheritance Trilogy bind up by N.K. Jemisin (The Fifth Season, The Obelisk Gate, and The Stone Sky)…… this book is freaking huge! It’s 2 1/2 pounds (no, seriously, I weighed it!) I’ve heard nothing but amazing things and can’t wait to get started!

Speaking of giant assed books, we have Wanderers by Chuck Wendig. Keep this author in mind – he shows up again later). This book sounds interesting but it’s the fact that the main characters name is the same as mine which has NEVER happened before! I spell mine Shanah and hers is Shana. I hope she’s not annoying…. that would suck lol! Next is Steel Crow Saga by Paul Krueger. I haven’t heard anything at all about this book so i’m taking a bit of a chance on this one!

These two are the two that I heard about as ARC’s but didn’t get my hands on. At the Harper Collins event in the summer they were raving like crazy about Serpent and Dove by Shelby Mahurin. I heard that there was a steamy love to hate relationship – I can’t wait!! Then there’s Foundryside by Robert Jackson Bennett – I haven’t heard a single bad thing about this book!!

Grey Sister by Mark Lawrence is the sequel to Red Sister. I had never read Mark Lawrence before….. as a fantasy lover I’m shocked it took so long! Then I got The Beautiful by Renée Ahdieh – and it came in SIGNED! I’m a little apprehensive about it though. I LOVED The Wrath and the Dawn but HATED Flame in the Mist. I have a 50% of liking this one then lol!

Remember when I said that Chuck Wendig would come up in this haul again? Well here he is! I picked up the first two books in the Zeroes series – Zeroes and Invasive. I actually bought Invasive first….. then realized that it was the second in a series….. so, naturally, I had to get the first one too lol!

Next is a book that I won’t be reading for a while……. but it was FREE!!! Scourged by Kevin Hearne is book 9 of the Iron Druid Chronicles. I’m only on book 4 I think? But, like I said, it was free lol. I’ll hopefully be picking up the rest of the series soon. At least I know I have this one on standby 🙂 Then I got The Shining by Stephen King. I really want to make reading his books a priority this year. I love his writing but have only read maybe 3 of his books! I liked the movie, but I have a feeling i’m going to like the book A LOT more!

FINALLY – we are at the end of this haul! And, we’re taking a break from fantasy….. holy hell I have a lot of fantasy to read!! The first one is Well Met by Jen DeLuca. I wish I could tell you what it’s about but I don’t remember lol. I remember seeing someone talk about it on YouTube and added it to my wish list…… I kind of like that I don’t know anything about it! Then there’s the sequel to the Pages and Co. series and that’s Tilly and the Lost Fairytales by Anna James. The first book in the series was so good that I finished it the same day I started. I LOVE the atmosphere of the book store and love the idea of being able to travel into your favourite books! I hope that I can read this one soon!

Wow this haul was huge……. I won’t even justify myself either. It felt damn good to go on a spree and spend all my money on books! I probably should have used some of it on clothes or other things I actually needed….. but it felt so good to buy books! I’m going to go ice my hands now as they’re cramping from typing……

Until next time, happy reading!

Santa is definitely an asshole for not bringing you any books. Sheesh.

  2. Nice book haul! Santa didn’t bring me any books either. I did get one book from my secret santa, so I guess that sort of counts. 🙂

Zeroes and Invasive aren’t a series, goodreads just lists then that way. I even asked Chuck about that on his blog and he replied: “Well, that’s unfortunate.” Lol
