I like big books and I cannot lie…..
Oh don’t roll your eyes, you know I had to!! Big books can be totally intimidating. You only have so much time available to read and then you see a book that’s a few inches thick and heavier than a newborn baby, and you reconsider picking it up. Big books are also intimidating for would be murderers who enter through your bedroom window. No joke! They see a hefty book sitting on your bed side table and immediately cringe at the thought of being hit in the head with it. Have you ever been hit with a 1,000 page book? Ok, well, neither have I – but I bet it hurts a lot! Anyway, here are the top 5 biggest books I’ve read! Thankfully I’ve liked them all A LOT and felt like I didn’t waste my time 🙂

Well damn it! I totally forgot to count one of those because they’re on a totally different shelf from the rest of my books. Time to edit!! Lol

Haha I knew my biggest book was the Order of the Phoenix, so I was surprised when I didn’t see any on your list.

I forget to mention them all the time! They’re on a separate shelf on their own and I assume people already know about them. I need to stop overlooking them! It’s a curse!

I loved Winter, The Lunar Chronicles was a fantastic series.

Ohmygod all of theesee xD For me it was the Outlander series, which somehow keeps getting bigger with each book lool. I need to read both Harry Potter and the rest of Cassandra Claire’s work but so much reading, so little time!!

That’s so true. So many books and so little time. I’m jumping into Outlander this fall. I started it a month ago and got about 100 pages in but had to set it down. They’re so huge!!

So my favorite professor in college taught a class on Victorian literature. He was legendary because on the first day of class he pulled out the three books we’d be assigned and a ruler. He’d have a student measure how tall the stack was (about 6.5 inches tall) and would say ‘if you don’t think you can read 6.5 inches worth of pages this semester, there’s no shame in it but this isn’t the class for you’. There were always at least 3 people who dropped out every semester! This always makes me smile because I LOVE big books! Only the strong survive.

Bwahahaha only the strong survive?! That’s amazing! And really? People would actually drop out because of that?! I’m quite shocked. I know it’s intimidating but geez!

It was a good way of getting the people who weren’t serious out of that class 🤣🤣

I have read Under the Dome as well! And some other Stephen King books that are huge – It, The Stand and a few more. I’m usually intimidated by big books, just because I know that they are going to take me a long time to finish. But there are sooo many big books that I want to read, especially high fantasy ones – so I try and look past the page count as much as I can. 😀 Great list!

I haven’t read much Stephen King. Just Under the Dome and Misery. I do plan to read It at some point. So many books so little time!

Great list 😊 Winter didn’t actually feel that long while I was reading it, which was weird. Guess I was just so into the story I practically lost track of time!

The ASOIF series is probably the longest series I’ve read so far. Each book being 800+ pages.

Haha I totally understand when you say that big books are intimidating! Glad that I’m not the only one who feels that way!
The biggest book that I read from cover to cover is Les Miserables back in grade 12 (I think it was 2000 pages? my friend was in love with the book and lent it to me and I felt obligated to read it. I am glad that I did because i did enjoy it.) The Wise Man’s Fear is the recent big book that i read. HP is up there as well. I love this week’s topic 🙂

2000?? Ok that’s more than a little intimidating! I haven’t read that one or seen the movie unfortunately

I did a quick fact check, it is actually 1500 pages haha (exaggerated a bit there.) still, it was quite a hefty read. If you are short on time and are interested in the story, the movie captures it well 🙂

Good to know! And really, is there a difference between 1,500 and 2,000? When you’re looking at that many pages – an extra 500 is nothing!! LOL

Oh probably the Outlander books and Robin Hobb’s books are among the longest I’ve read. Most of the longest books I’ve read will be fantasy, so many fantasy novels are such huge tomes sometimes I question my sanity!

High and Epic fantasy are some of the largest books out there! I have so many sitting on my shelves unread just because I haven’t had the time for them. I find that they’re the type of book you need to dedicate time to in order to appreciate them to their fullest.

That’s definitely true. You can’t give them a 30min burst!

Hope you get to read The Goldfinch soon – remains one of my favorite books of 2017 🙂

I’ve heard so many amazing things about it. I really hope to get to it this fall 🙂

Oh my gosh! I’m so shocked to see Winter is longer than Order of the Phoenix and City of Heavenly Fire? I never thought Winter was that long haha. Huge books are so intimidating for sure!! I don’t tend to pick up many of them unless they’re part of a series haha, like a lot of the ones you listed. 😀

Winter definitely didn’t feel that long! I flew through it in 5 days I think it was. It read so fast!

You can add me as participant this time Shanah 😉 and I totally forgot to add my Harry Potter’s books.

I think the books from A Song of Ice and Fire are the longest books I’ve read, but they were so addicting that it didn’t really feel like they were that long. 😛

Sad to say, I’ve only read the first one! I tried to read the second one that I had on my kindle then it died and I never went back to it! But that’s a high fantasy series that reads so quickly due to the changes in perspective 🙂

Great post! 🙂 I loved Winter and it didn’t feel like it was such a massive book – I read it so quickly, I couldn’t stop! 🙂

The longest book I’ve read is probably Pillars of the Earth. Thinking about reading a book over 1,000 pages now scares me! I don’t think I can do it anymore.

I have that book but haven’t read it yet. It’s just so long! Was it worth it though?

I enjoyed it, but I think it’s cause I watched the TV show first (like 6 years ago). The book drags on a lot, but it’s definitely interesting and worth the read if you like historical fiction.

I love historical fiction so that’s good to know! Thanks!

Winter is so good! I read the unabridged The Count of Monte Cristo… 1,462 pages.

Yikes!! That’s a crazy page count! I have a hard enough time reading classics let alone one that long! 😂
