Imagine this – your fire alarm goes off, smoke is in the air, and you have only a few seconds to save your books (don’t worry, you saved your family and pets first!!)…… so which ones would you save?? My dad is a firefighter so I’ve seen and heard many stories of people losing everything. Things can be replaced but people can’t. But are there some books that are irreplaceable for you? And why? Tell me all about it in this weeks topic 🙂
Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme where I explore different topics. If you are interested in participating I would love to have you! Here is a list of my Upcoming topics in May – please remember to ping back a specific post of mine so I get a notification and I will add you to the participants list!
The first book I would save is Strange The Dreamer by Laini Taylor. I loved this book, but that’s not why I’m saving it. This book was actually the first ARC that I ever received (From Hatchette Canada) and it was the turning point for my book blogging career. It felt like validation when my first ever physical ARC came in the mail. I jumped for joy and cried many tears!
The second book I would save is Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff. I would save it for 2 reasons: 1 – it’s Kristoff. 2 – It’s signed by his genius hand!
Ok, I’m totally cheating here. But, it’s my meme, and I’ll do as I please! LOL! I would save my Harry Potter collection. I have all the original UK/Canadian covers, plus all available illustrated editions, and a could of the anniversary Philosophers Stone books. I would be saving 12 books in this group……. but I’m strong. I can handle it!
Next I would save the two books from the Frostblood Saga. Elly Blake was the first author I ever met. I got the chance to meet her along with Stephanie Garber when the first book was released. And since she lives less than an hour from me, I went to the launch of Fireblood and got the second one personalized as well! The third will be released soon and, if she’s doing an event, I will hopefully have an entire trilogy personalized!
Last, but certainly not least, I would save my ARC copy of Children of Blood and Bone. This is an ARC that I wasn’t supposed to get. I requested it but, due to high demand, they didn’t have any left. My contact at Raincoast Books Canada just happened to find a copy and sent it my way. ARC’s are my pride and joy. Some people prefer a finished copy but ARC’s are something so special for me. And this book was amazing to boot!!

I cheated. I know I did. But we’re all allowed to cheat sometimes! These books all have a special place in my heart for one reason or another and I would go to the ends of the earth to preserve them! Which books would you save from a fire?
Until next time, happy reading!
I also chose to save my first ARC! It was a really wonderful feeling to received that book in the mail.
Of course you have to save every Harry Potter book!

Glad you agree! The Harry Potter books are heavy, but I would find a way!

Yes for HP series! You are allowed to cheat for it 😉

Glad you agree 😁

Exactly, my HP series because I poured so much time and love into those books growing up!
All the books I feel this way about, I would save from
The fire! 😊😂

I wish I could save all my Harry Potter collection but I have weak arms and I would most likely fall. Since my shelves our in a bedroom by themselves I would probably just open the window and throw out as many as possible. haha

Hahahahaha!!!! That’s good thinking!

Ha ha ha!! A series counts as one book… Right?? I love that you had “Strange the Dreamer” on the list!! 💖💖

I’m thinking of buying a new edition of HP series. A boxed set so I can carry them easier, the ones I own are the heaviest, I’ll burn myself trying to save them. haha.

Lol any reason to have more Harry Potter books is valid 😂

Haha completely agree with saving Harry Potter!! It would be fine to watch your house burn down as long as you saved all your Harry Potter books haha.

That’s so amazing to hear about Children of Blood and Bone, I totally get why you would save the books you chose (and I also semi-cheated about HP).

I saw that! Lol. Same mind!

Awww I totally love that this was all about ARCs and personalized books and series love! I didn’t even think of that at all, hahaha. It’s neat you live so close to an author you love and can attend her events when they happen! ❤️
LikeLiked by 1 person
I’m lucky that way with her. Seeing as how there are never any tours or conventions that come this way!

Of course I’d save my illustrated copies of HP and my Ravenclaw copy of book 1. My singed special edition of A Dragonfly in Amber. My signed copy of ACOWAR. And Special edition of The Lies of Locke Lamora.
I hope I never have to choose. It would be heartbreaking

Of course Locke Lemora is on your list!! I need to read that ASAP

I love all the special stories you have behind each of your books, it’s so nice to be able to get to know about what bloggers read but also the stories behind the person too. Thanks so much for sharing and I loved this topic 🙂

Literally the ONLY reason Nevernight isn’t on my list is because I’d count on my daughter to grab them. I even asked her what books she’d save, and Nevernight/Godsgrave were at the top of her list.
LikeLiked by 2 people
As they should be!!! 🤣🤣
LikeLiked by 2 people
Man, I kept to 5!! BUT if I could add more, I’d throw in ALL of my Nevernight Chronicle books, they’re all signed and personalised (but I live in the same city as Kristoff so I figured they could probably be replaced, except for those two Godsgrave’s I had listed!!). HP is also amazing. If I could only pick one, it’d be my copy of OotP. I bought it when I was living in the UK and it’s a hard cover first edition. I have very fond memories of lining up outside the bookstore for the midnight release!

I am so beyond jealous. Kristoff is hands down my all time favourite author. It’s my dream to meet him some day! I would totally cry if I did!!

He’s pretty funny. It’s nice being in the same city as him because it means I don’t miss out on all the book launches, which I did when I was in Canberra.

I totally agree with you with Harry Potter! I think a lot of people would save them, because they have become a classic!
I still have to read Strange the Dreamer, but I’m super excited after hearing amazing things about it😊.

Strange the dreamer isn’t a super fast paced book but the atmosphere and the writing is glorious!

Cool tag! And I’m definitely ok with “cheating”. I mean, how can you limit yourself to just give? I guess that’s where omnibus editions come in handy ☺️
LikeLiked by 1 person
Wow, you got such an awesome first ARC with landing Strange the Dreamer! 🙂 I can definitely see how that would be on the list of books to save.
Nice picks. It’d definitely be a hard call to have to make.

Knowing me I would be too frantic and just start grabbing and throwing them out the window lol

I love my books, but think pragmatically could cope with rebuying. It would only be if I acquire any really special signed copies.
My top priority to save in a fire would be the doll my Grandparents when I was only a year old and my Grandad named her for me after my Grandma. Money can replace most other things.
Yes would be gutted to lose books and jewellery. But that is what insurance is for.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Same thoughts here. The only books I would save are the ones that have special value and can’t be replaced
Awe that’s so sweet! The doll is definitely top priority!
