I’ve seen this floating around the book community for quite some time. I love seeing lists of books that people are pretty much convinced will be a 5 star read. And I also love seeing people compare their actual ratings once they’ve read them! If I remember about this, I hope to do an update as to how I actually rated all of these. I plan to read most of them soon, so I hope I remember to update!
Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme where I explore different topics. If you are interested in participating I would love to have you! Here is a list of my Upcoming topics in May – please remember to ping back a specific post of mine so I get a notification and I will add you to the participants list!
I’m starting with the obvious – A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J Maas. Pretty much everything I’ve read of hers, I’ve rated 5 stars. Her writing is captivating and her characters I want as best friends. I’ve got this one on preorder and I can’t wait!!!
Yet another obvious one for me is Lifel1k3 by Jay Kristoff. This man can do no wrong in my eyes!!! He can write spins and twists in the fantasy and science fiction genres that you never expect. He somehow always has the element of surprise and is known for being ruthless with his characters. And this one has a character named Lemon Fresh…. I NEED to know what this is all about!
Next is the Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson. I know this one will be 5 stars. I just know it. It has every single element that I look for in a high fantasy series. The plot and the characters sound amazing, but the magic system sounds like something I will need to devour completely. Almost everyone that has the same reading tastes as I do loves this one. I just need to stop being so afraid of it and read it already!!
Along the same lines as Mistborn, The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch is one that I know for a fact will get 5 stars. The premise is intriguing, but it’s the character of Locke that I know will win my heart with his humour and smart assed mouth. I have a friend who kept messaging me with funny lines in the book and I couldn’t stop laughing. There was literally no context – just one liners. But I laughed so hard all the same!
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah has been on my shelves since the week it was released. I had heard great things in early reviews and the author seemed to be highly praised. And ever since, this book is consistently getting 5 star ratings. I know that I’m going to get kicked hard in the emotions with this one – and I’m so ready for it!

Does anyone else do this though – you know that you’re going to love a book so you hold off on reading it. For some reason, when I know I’m going to love a book, I’m hesitant to pick it up because I feel like I need undivided attention for it. Sadly, my life is always crazy so undivided attention is almost impossible! I need to get over it and read them already! What books do you predict will be 5 stars?
Until next time, happy reading!
I was going to put LifeL1k3 on my list too since I absolutely love Jay Kristoff’s books! I cannot wait for it to be released 🙂

I haven’t heard of Locke Lamora. What is it about?

All I know is that he’s a con artist who steals from the rich and he’s awful at fighting but he’s smart thinking and has a foul mouth. Basically he fights with words. And it has something to do with a king and possible political threat. A friend of mine read it and loved it and she’s not usually one for high fantasy which was enough for me lol. I kind of wanted to go into it blindly and be surprised so I can’t tell you much more

I’ve a huge list of such books which I think I will love but am too scared to pick up….
Haven’t read the top 4 in your list, but The Nightingale is definitely worth all the hype…

I don’t know why that is – I know I’ll love it but it scares me. And I know I’m not the only one who does this!! I’ve heard nothing but great things about the Nightingale. I’ll be picking it up soon I think 🙂

I have an ARC of LIFEL1K3, and I’m so excited! I’m also a little nervous, because I love Fantasy but Sci-Fi always scares me a little.
LikeLiked by 1 person
If it makes you feel better I’ve heard that it’s a bit of an Anastasia retelling. So there will probably be more fantasy than as Sci-Fi 🙂

I’ve never heard of The Nightingale before but it’s been added to my TBR now. Anything to do with WW2 tends to score highly with me, so I’m sure it’ll be great! 😀

Everyone I’ve talked to has loved this book intensely. I can’t wait to see what the hype is about. It has a 4.55 average rating on Goodreads which is HUGE!!

Sarah J Maas made my list too! I can’t wait, but I also feel the same, I’ve been putting off another work of hers because I just don’t feel like I can give it the proper attention. Also, I’m not eager for her series to be ending so soon (not that it is actually soon….but I don’t want them to end).

I’m excited that throne of glass is ending actually. Not that I don’t love the stories – I do! I feel like I could live in that world forever. But it will be nice to know how it all comes together 🙂

Yes!! I feel like it has been going on for quite a span of time! (But I will miss the world! — I suppose that is why we have rereads!)

I’m expecting the same from Mistborn and the lies of locke lamora! I hope you enjoy The Nightingale – I found it good but not that hype worthy.

I don’t even read fantasy, but so many people love Brandon Sanderson that it makes me want to read the Mistborn trilogy!

I’m the exact same way with my predicted 5-star reads. I get really excited and then super nervous because what if they don’t live up to the hype in my head? haha 😛
I’ve heard good things about Kristin Hannah even though I have yet to read anything from her. I know she has a book set in Alaska so I’ll have to check it out!

I’ve heard mixed reviews about the Alaska one. But I don’t know what the issues were. It would be a great read for you though – might have a place or two that you’ve seen’

That’s why I loved The Smell of Other People’s Houses so much. I was at or near almost every place she mentioned 😀

That’s so cool! Station Eleven took place 5 minutes outside of where I live. And they mentioned a lot of other places in Ontario too. It’s neat when a place you’ve been is mentioned!

I loved the Nightingale, i hope you’ll like it too! It’s indeed very emotional and even though i don’t own the book, i still find myself thinking about it from time to time.

To be honest, I also think ACOFAS will be a 5 star read (or I hope at least!). I have an ARC of LifeL1k3 and it sounds amazing so I cannot wait to read it (I’ve heard really good things about it!).

I always try to wait to read my ARC’s until closer to publication date – but the wait for Lifel1k3 is killing me! 😂

I am so keen to get my hands on Lifel1k3. Everything Jay writes I adore so I’m looking forward to it! And ACOFAS, just take my money already.
I liked The Lies of Locke Lamora but I didn’t love it the way a lot of other people did, wasn’t enough to get me to continue with the series. I hope you enjoy it!

Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J Maas. I have a feeling this book is going to kill me but I’m counting on it being amazing as well.
DarkDawn by Jay Kristoff. This will be bloody. Like really bloody but it’s going to be fantastic.
Time’s Convert by Deborah Harkness. I loved the All Souls trilogy and this is a companion novel. I can’t wait to see Marcus as a young vampire.
The Thorn of Emberlin by Scott Lynch. I pray this book comes out this year. It’s supposed to release in September but it’s been put off before. I love Locke and I miss him.
Wild Hunger by Chloe Neill. I loved the Chicagoland vampire series and this is a spinoff. I can’t wait!!!
