Hello everyone and welcome to another top 5 Tuesday! I was so very excited to do this topic. It’s not the usual topic. Usually we’re finding the 5 best books that fit the weeks theme. But this list was a strategically planned one. I figured it would be a great way to start the new year by reflecting on why we love reading so much! A little motivation to kick the year off right!
Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme where I explore different topics. If you are interested in participating I would love to have you! Here is a list of my Upcoming topics in January – please remember to ping back a specific post of mine so I get a notification and I will add you to the participants list!
1 – I GET TO TRAVEL THE WORLD! (AND EVEN OUTSIDE THE WORLD!)
I LOVE travel. In fact, I have a college diploma for travel! But, let’s face it, I can’t afford it lol! This way I can travel anywhere in the world without spending money or leaving the house. So many times I’ve read a descriptive novel and then searched pictures on Google to look at how things are in another country. It’s kept my interest in the world and other cultures alive. Not only that, but you get to travel to fictional worlds and even space!
2 – ESCAPE REALITY!
The real world just sucks sometimes. Adulting is hard and responsibilities are always finding their way on your place. Books are an escape – an adventure! They make you forget about everything in your life that might be bringing you down. For a little while I can imagine a beach, or people with magic. It’s beautiful!
3 – MEET NEW PEOPLE
I’m sure you’ll understand when I say – I don’t get out much lol! I’m a hermit; happy to be at home with my kids, husband, dog, bearded dragons, books, coffee, and a blanket. That’s literally all I need to be happy. It is nice to go out with friends for dinner every once in a while, but I really don’t get out and do things often. So with books, I’m constantly meeting new people. In a series, I feel like I’m revisiting old friends. And each person has something to offer and teach me.
4 – LEARN!!
Speaking of teaching me, one of the things I love most about reading is that I’m always learning. Sometimes it’s actual facts, sometimes it’s science related, sometimes it’s historical, but, a lot of the time, it’s learning and enriching the human experience. I have felt so much emotion, understanding, and compassion over the years from books. Specifically when it comes to sensitive topics. I learn the things that I hopefully might never experience, but at the same time I’m learning how to be compassionate and relate to those situations.
5 – IT PUT’S ME TO SLEEP!
LOL! This is totally true! When I was in a reading slump a few weeks ago I would see 4am on a nightly basis. No matter what I did or how hard I tried, I couldn’t sleep. Then when I started reading again my sleep came back…… lesson learned! Even if I read for only 30 minutes sometimes, it helps my eyes get tired and takes my mind of the millions of worries that keep my mind active at night.

Reblogged this on Wonderwall and commented:
1. It helps me go to sleep. 2. I learn about different places. 3. Get to see issues from different people’s perspective. 4. Books help relax sitting on beaches / by pools on sun by keeping you entertained and stop you being restless and wanting to move. 5. Love reading to children.

Ha ha!! I love your last one. It definitely helps me relax and forget whatever real life stresses there are (and therefor make it way easier to fall asleep). Here’s my list: http://www.tenaciousreader.com/2019/01/15/top-5-tuesday-reasons-i-love-reading/

I agree with your reasons – they’re close to mine, too! I loved #5, though, ha. I never thought about it, but that’s a really good point! Reading can help me sleep, too, but I always avoid it because I’m almost chronically unable to put down a book once I start it. Maybe I should invest in a book of short stories…

This looks like a fun thing to join in!
Your fifth reason makes me think of my mom who still to this day falls asleep reading.

100% agree with you! Books are just great in so many ways. Even tho it’s some fantasy book, you can learn so much from it still.
