2022 has been an interesting year so far… in some ways good, and some ways bad. But one thing is know is that I need to expect the unexpected this year… even when it comes to books. Something happened this week that has never happened to me before and I was a real struggle to make a decision. Let me explain…
BOOKS I FINISHED THIS WEEK:
The first book that I finished this week was BEACH READ by Emily Henry. I heard some mixed reviews about this one. One of the main reasons some people didn’t like this all came down to the fact that it wasn’t your typical “rom-com” and I would have to agree that it’s not. In my case though, I really enjoyed that it was a little different! It had some of the usual rom-com moments but it was far more deep and dark. Review coming this Friday.
The “unexpected” I mentioned earlier came when I started reading EXTASIA by Claire Legrand. I was so excited for this book! It had so many buzzwords that screamed at me to read it – cults, horror, witches, female/female, and so on. I requested this book specifically because I was so convinced I would love it…………… and I ended up DNF’ing it……. This book was not it for me and I’ll be doing a “review/thoughts” post in a few days to talk about it. Setting this book aside was a very difficult decision, especially since it was an ARC. I made it to page 249 before making the call, but I just couldn’t do it anymore.
Because my plans to read Extasia fell through, I decided to pick up THE EX HEX by Erin Sterling. I was still in the mood for something “witchy” so this was perfect! A few months ago this book was everywhere and I managed to resist and stay away from any spoilers. I really enjoyed certain aspects of this but it wasn’t as great as I thought it would be. Review coming next week
BOOKS I’M CURRENTLY READING:
YYYYEEEEEESSSSSS! It’s time folks! Book two in the series is releasing on the 15th and, of course, I’ve got it preordered. Problem is….. I remember literally nothing about the first book! I have a few memories of the characters and some specific scenes, but there’s no way I could read the second one without being confused. I had completely forgotten how much I enjoyed this atmosphere/world and the main character! And, weirdly enough, I think I’m liking it better the second time around!
POSTS COMING THIS WEEK:
Also – happy Valentines Day tomorrow to all my fellow bookworms out there!!!
Until next time, happy reading!
