Weekly Wrap Up – Jan 30 – Feb 5

If you’re new around here, you might be wondering where this post came from. If you’ve been here a while, you might be thinking “it’s back?”

The weekly wrap up is a post that I used to do every Sunday… until I wondered if it was too boring and stopped writing them lol. I was also in the middle of “blogger burn out” and needed to take a step back from posting so much. Now though, I think a post like this is just what I need to get back into the swing of things, get used to blogging again, plan what to post and, most importantly, hold myself accountable!

The weekly posts will go kind of like this – 1 – Books I finished. 2 – Books I’m currently reading/plan to read in the very near future. 3 – Posts I have planned for the week. 4 (?) – other random shit that I want to talk about. Here goes nothing….

The first book I finished this week was ACT YOUR AGE, EVE BROWN by Talia Hibbert. This is the third (and sadly, final) book in the Brown Sisters trilogy. I’m not going to go into too much detail here as I have a full series review planned for the coming week. I binge read the entire series in the month of January and it was GLORIOUS! I loved them soooooo much and I can’t wait to gush about them in the review! Not only were these so much fun but they also dealt with a lot of sensitive subjects like trust, invisible illnesses, autism, cheating, grief, and so much more. I’ll read anything this woman writes! I rated this one 5 stars!

The next book I finished was VOICES FROM CHERNOBYL by Svetlana Alexievich, which is a translated non fiction surrounding the disaster at the nuclear power plant in Chernobyl. I really did like this one but it wasn’t necessarily what I thought it would be. I went into it expecting it to be first hand accounts of the disaster itself, what they saw/did, and what happened after the fact. There was still quite a lot of that in here BUT… it felt like quite a few of the stories were more of a love letter to the land itself. I did learn quite a few new things though, and some of the stories made my jaw drop. I’ll talk about it more in the review which will hopefully go up in a week or so. I need to think on this one a little more. I rated it 4 stars.

I am so very close to finishing BEACH READ by Emily Henry! I might even finish it tonight. I was a little nervous going into it because it’s got some really mixed reviews. Some love it while others say that she should have stuck to writing YA. Thankfully, I’m in the camp that loves it! It’s not your typical rom-com type story which I find absolutely refreshing! There are the cliche type rom-com scenes, but this is so much more layered and deep than that. Will it be 5 stars?? Not sure but it might be!

After I finish Beach Read, I’ll be picking up EXTASIA by Claire Legrand. I don’t really know a whole lot about it. All I know is that during the publisher event, this sounded so dark and mysterious, and they were all raving about it! All I can remember though is that it’s about a girl who joins a coven and is about to become one of their saints. Her mother has a shameful/bad past and she needs to prove herself. It sounds dark, mysterious, witchy, and right up my alley! I’ve always wanted to read this author so I can’t wait!

And, lastly, if I manage to finish both of those, I plan on doing a reread of HOUSE OF EARTH AND BLOOD by Sarah J Maas! The second book in the Crescent City series, House of Sky and Breath, comes out on February 15th and I really want to reread the first book before starting the second. I remember almost nothing of what happened!

Until next time, happy reading!
