Weekly Wrap Up – June 1 – 7

Oh hey! Remember me? I wouldn’t be surprised if you didn’t lol! It’s been a while…. a long while. Though the world is still a flaming dumpster fire of pandemics and racism, I feel like I’m personally coming out of my shadow. I’ve had no mental break downs in a few weeks (look at me go! LOL) and I’ve actually been reading!!! I’m not delusional enough to say that I’m back for good though…. I’ve basically written off 2020 for the blog being “normal”. I will try my best and start off slow, and see how that goes for a while. I need to get back into being more consistent – with reading, writing posts with valid content, and responding to comments. That last one is the hardest since my life is so freaking busy right now, but I’m damn well going to try! I may still go silent for many days in a row; the world has a new normal so why can’t my blog? lol

BOOKS I FINISHED THIS WEEK:

These covers are just fucking gorgeous! Seriously! The cover designer needs to win an award!! But the author needs an even bigger award because these books are brilliant!! Foundryside was a reread for me – and I loved it just as much the second time around. It still stands in the number 1 spot for top book of 2020. It’s honestly the fastest paced book i’ve ever read and excels in everything from characters, plot, magic, originality, and world building. I was a little nervous going into Shorefall though – Would it compare? Would it fall prey to the curse of the sequel? I’m happy to say that it held its own! Though it fell flat in a few elements that I loved in book one, that was only natural as the plot moves forward. There’s a little less thievery and a lot more politics, gods, and war….. shit got dark! And I loved every minute of it! Review to come soon.

BOOKS I’M CURRENTLY READING:

Dear god, Pet Sematary by Stephen King makes the “currently reading” list for the, what, 4th week in a row? 5th? Who knows any more. I’m listening to the audiobook for this and I can’t seem to find the time to listen to it, which is a real piss off since it’s a damn good book! Probably my favourite ever Stephen King novel! Shit is about to hit the fan and I’m a little nervous about what could happen next. Actually, I’m a damn liar….. I’m A LOT nervous about it! This book is doing things to me and I don’t know if I can handle it! Next we have Goldilocks by Laura Lam and look at that cover!!! GAH! It’s so stunning!! I’m probably going to finish this one today and I have feelings about this one….. not good ones for the most part. It’s not that this is a bad book but there’s a lot of room for improvement. There’s still a hundred pages or so before i’m done so there’s still time to redeem itself. Let’s hope it does!

OTHER BOOKISH NEWS:

TOP 5 TUESDAY:

As you may have seen, Top 5 Tuesday is taking a break for the month of June. If all goes well, and I can manage to function like a normal human being for the next few weeks, I might attempt its return. I miss the amazing lists on Tuesdays though…. Soon, soon.

BLACK LIVES MATTER!!!

I’m going to be honest, I’ve missed a lot of what’s been going on because I’ve been off of social media for about a month. What I have seen though is heart breaking. HOW the hell are we in the year 2020 and racism is still a thing? How are black men and women still being killed by police? How are police still getting away with this shit? And why are parents still having to raise their children to behave a certain way with the police so they don’t entice violence? It’s disgusting. It’s time to speak up and fight for what’s right. No more staying silent and allowing this behaviour and treatment to continue. If the only thing you can do is stand up for someone when you hear/see racist remarks and actions, then you’re still doing something. Of course, if you can, donate or sign petitions – basically do whatever you can to ensure that black men, women, and children no longer have to live in fear of hate, even if you think that action is small. If we all stand together, our voices of love are stronger than those of hate.

Not gunna lie – it felt really weird writing a post again….. i’m severely out of practice! I have a few posts planned for this week (reviews, and maybe even a TBR?) but they’re going to be sporadic. Basically, when I get the chance to write – I will. If I’m too busy and things are too crazy, i’m not going to push myself to crank out content because it will take all the fun out of it. I’m glad to be back on this little space on the internet and hope I can make this a more constant thing!

Hope you’re all doing well, are staying safe, and reading lots of books!!!!

Until next time, happy reading!

I don’t have the money right now to donate to places or buy books by Black authors. Instead, I selected a few of the TBR books I already own by Black authors to read this month. And I can’t remember the last time I felt so settled in a TBR pile.

Hello Shanah. I too cannot understand how racism is still happening – anywhere in the world. We are the Human Race – all of us. Change can only come from government and the government is us. Thanks for the post.

  3. I have Foundryside on my TBR this month. I’m really looking forward to it, although the new UK covers are nowhere NEAR as pretty. I’m glad the sequel holds up too 🙂

  5. Congrats on finishing Shorefall! I loved it to death, but yeah it got hella dark lol. I’ve heard a lot of mixed things about Goldilocks, generally that starts with an interesting premise but just can’t quite deliver. I’ll keep an eye out for your review!
