Top 5 Summer Reads!

Weather is weird – two weeks ago it was snowing and now it’s hotter than hell! I think our backyard was almost 100 degrees over the last two days. I thought I had time to get my pool ready but MAN I wish I had it ready now!!! There’s nothing better than lounging by the pool or relaxing by the bon fire with a good book. Since this whole Covid thing isn’t allowing us to do much of anything else, that’s what I plan to do pretty much the whole summer lol. So we are here today to talk about summer reads! Normally I would be coming to you with some recommendations BUT today I’m going to talk about the 5 books that I want to lose myself in this summer 🙂

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme where I explore different topics. If you are interested in participating I would love to have you! Please remember to ping back a specific post of mine so I get a notification and I will add you to the participants list! The topics for June will be released tomorrow 🙂

My calamity jane

MY CALAMITY JANE by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows

I’ve got this one preordered and I couldn’t be more excited! Their books have that historical feel but with a weird magical twist and sprinkled with lot of humour – and I’ve needed this in my life for the longest time! I don’t even know what the synopsis promises….. it was an automatic purchase!

Truel1f3

TRUEL1F3 by Jay Kristoff

I’m pretty sure that this book is going to break my heart and soul – but I’m here for it! I need me some more Lemon Fresh! I have a feeling that she’s going to shine in this one. The second book left things in a bit of a messed up spot and I have guesses as to the direction……. I know i’ll be wrong….. Jay Kristoff has a way of catching me off guard!

City of stairs RJB

CITY OF STAIRS by Robert Jackson Bennett

Any time this series is mentioned, it prompts a series of strong fangirl/boy screams. You all know that I have a deep love for Foundryside (and Shorefall it turning out just as amazing!) and I have vowed to read literally everything this man has written. I picked up the entire trilogy and I hope to marathon the whole thing this summer!

The empire of gold

THE EMPIRE OF GOLD by S.A. Chakraborty

This is hands down one of my favourite series of all time!!!! I need to know how this ends! There’s something about her writing that I am so obsessed with! She has such a way to pull in your attention within the first few pages and not let go. I get so absorbed in the characters, the plot, the world, the magic, that I forget that I have adult responsibilities. See? Perfect for summer lol

Record of a spaceborn few

RECORD OF A SPACEBORN FEW by Becky Chambers

This book has made its way on more TBR’s yet I still haven’t read it. Summer is the perfect time to knock this one out! Space, great characters, space…… just the escape I need! I wasn’t the biggest fan of the second book in the series but i’ve heard such good things about this one!

I’m a little shocked that I didn’t put a romance on this list! There’s always a romance or two in the summer time. I still plan on reading a few (hopefully) but I must really be in the mood for fantasy!

As always, I will do my best to keep the list updated. If you haven’t noticed, I haven’t posted in a week…. that was NOT INTENTIONAL! My life is so freaking busy right now. I need an assistant, a clone, and a day off lol!!

What books do you think are perfect for summer? Do you have any big reading plans? I would love to know!

Until next time, happy reading!

For the first time in who knows how long, we have gorgeous weather where I live and we can’t go outside. Or go to the library. Or bookstore. But that’s why my big reading plans for the summer are to take a hammer to my TBR pile at home. I also want to reread old favorite books…because obviously I have a fear of running out of new books to read, so I put it off.

    1. Lol fear of running out of new books is a real thing! I’m in the same boat. No where to go other than our own yard. 2020 sucks!

Great list! I still need to read Foundryside (maybe I should finally read my copy this summer?), and City of Stairs looks amazing. I still need to read My Lady Jane too! Your list is inspiring me to get to some of these books that have been on my TBR for way too long. Enjoy your summer reading!

I’m added RECORD OF A SPACEBORN FEW BY BECKY CHAMBERS to my TBR. Should I read the series in order?

thank you for another great list.

    1. Yes you’ll probably have to read the series in order. The plots follow different characters but events in the sequels are related to past books

I hope you end up enjoying all of these. I seriously can’t believe that I haven’t started City Of Brass yet. Or Lifelike as they both sound incredible. I feel like summer should be for contemporary and thrillers but tbh I read anything at any time. Some of the books I definitely want to get read during the season though are The Beautiful, Blood Countess, Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes and Once And For All.

    1. The Beautiful has been on my TBR since it was released……. I’ll get to it one of these days lpl
