Weekly Wrap Up – May 10 – 17

Happy Birthday to me! Yesterday I turned 38 years old….. holy shit I’m getting old! I still feel like I’m 23 (which is a good thing, right?) but that scary number 40 is getting way too close. Luckily, with 2020 going the way it is and the way time feels like it’s passing, I’ve got a solid 12 years before I hit 39 lol. Yesterday was a really great day! I spent the morning playing Animal Crossing and then in the afternoon I went to the local garden shop and picked up some flowers and dirt for my veggie garden. I then spent the afternoon in the warm and glorious sunshine planting! I got it all finished too! Then we went to my parents house (who have also been isolating) and we had a BBQ, bonfire, and some drinks. I planned on reading when I got home but I worked so hard in the garden I was SO exhausted.

Back on topic with reading though (since this is a book blog after all). I feel like I’m slowly getting back into the reading game! I finally finished a book! Better yet, that book is almost guaranteed to make it on my top 10 list for the year because it was incredible! I also made it a little further into my audiobook AND started a reread! I have the desire to read again and I actually get excited when I look at the books on my shelf. That feeling had been lost for almost 2 months and it was killing me. I feel whole again!

BOOKS I FINISHED THIS WEEK:

the trouble with hating you

Sorry for the F-bomb here but I fucking loved this book!!!!!!!!!! I’ve been really getting into romance novels over the last year. Some i’ve loved, some were fun, and some were just blah. THE TROUBLE WITH HATING YOU by Sajni Patel couldn’t have surprised me more! This was on the list as available for request with Hachette Canada and I thought I would take a chance. It sounded cute, i’ve been needing the escape of romance lately, so why not? I never expected this though! It was light and fun but packed in some REALLY hard topics. Topics that were very raw and sensitive, and neither character wanted to deal with the emotions let alone acknowledge them. Along with the cute, funny, and witty relationship, we got to watch these two characters finally come to terms with the events of their past that defined them. I wanted to write the review as soon as I read it but I haven’t been able to yet. I loved it that much and there are SO many things to say and I’m struggling to put it all together! Review will hopefully be posted tomorrow.

BOOKS I’M CURRENTLY READING:

Look at all these amazing books!! PET SEMATARY by Stephen King is a current read for the second week in a row. I’m slowly making my way through the audiobook and loving it still. I really hope to finish it this week….. if my son can stop repeating “Mom” long enough for me to make it through a chapter lol. Next is my reread of FOUNDRYSIDE by Robert Jackson Bennett which, just so happens to be in the number one spot (so far) of my favourite books of 2020! I’m flying through it and finding things I didn’t catch the first time around. Once i’m refreshed on the plot, I can get to the sequel, SHOREFALL. From the reviews and reactions i’ve seen so far, I have a feeling this sequel is about to kick my ass like a hurricane – bring it!

OTHER BOOKISH NEWS:

TOP 5 TUESDAY:

This week we were talking about theย Top 5 Worst Rulers….. literally the only time this has ever been said but, King Joffrey and President Snow were quite popular this week. The topic for the 19th is Top 5 Opening Lines. I am a total sucker for a good opening line so I can’t wait for this one!

Warning for participants though – it’s probably going to take me longer than normal to add you to the list. Our store is once again allowed to open to the public, with strict social distancing rules in place. We are expecting to be very busy and it’s going to take a lot more time because we can only allow so many in at once AND I need to sanitize after each customer. Not looking forward to it.

EPIC BOOK HAUL ON THE WAY?!

So I may have ordered a few books already and then I got money for my birthday sooooo…. there might be a huge book haul for this month. I’m struggling though lol. Why is it that when I actually have money to buy books, I have no clue what to buy????? And then, when I’m completely broke, I want ALL THE BOOKS!? What should I buy lol

Not the most exciting week but still, I’m headed in the direction of wanting to read again so I’ll take it! That’s the most exciting thing that I could ask for! I hope your week was great and you’re safe and healthy. I’m going to go read now lol.

Until next time, happy reading!
