Top 5 Tuesday – Series I Want To Start!

Seeing as how I haven’t touched a book in over a week (Why do I keep admitting that?! It’s not something I’m proud of lol), I’m not sure that I’m thinking about starting anything right now! Just because i’m not in the mood to read right now doesn’t mean that I don’t longingly stare at my shelves and think of all the books I want to read when the mood strikes again. As a big fantasy and sci-fi reader, series are just a reality. Finding a standalone fantasy is like finding a rainbow sparkle unicorn in the land of Oz. So here are a few series that I really want to start (soonish):

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme where I explore different topics. If you are interested in participating I would love to have you! Here is a list of my Upcoming Topics in May – please remember to ping back a specific post of mine so I get a notification and I will add you to the participants list!

the fifth season

THE FIFTH SEASON (The Broken Earth Trilogy) by N.K. Jemisin

I’ve been talking about this series constantly for the last few months. Maybe one of these days i’ll actually read it! I finished her most recent novel and thought that her writing style was very unique in so many ways. But out of all her books, this is the one I hear about the most. So I plan to dive in (at some point) and finally experience the fantasy worlds she creates!

The way of kings

THE WAY OF KINGS (The Stormlight Archive) by Brandon Sanderson

I’ve completed the Mistborn trilogy over a year ago and planned to immediately start this one. But it’s freaking huge!!! There are some controversial thoughts that this series is even better than Mistborn (that’s a hard statement to live up to), so I can’t wait to see which side of the fence I fall on. But this book is just so big…… no promises when I’ll finally conquer intimidation and start it though!

City of Stairs

THE CITY OF STAIRS (The Divine Cities Trilogy) by Robert Jackson Bennett

I seriously need this book in my life! I read my first Robert Jackson Bennett novel just a few months ago and vowed that I would read everything that this man writes. Even if it’s a grocery list, I’m sure I’ll rate it 5 stars!

the-black-prism

THE BLACK PRISM (Lightbringer series) by Brent Weeks

I’ve had this series on my shelf for literally years. I know I’m going to love it! The synopses sounds incredible and the first few chapters made me fall in love…… multiple times. I’ve actually started this book about 10 times….. but the size always makes me put it down. Why do I have such a fear of big books?? I need to get over that shit!

Stormdancer

STORMDANCER (The Lotus War Trilogy) by Jay Kristoff

Shocked you with this one, didn’t I?? LOL! Yes….. though I may be completely obsessed with Jay Kristoff, there is an entire trilogy out there that I haven’t read! This one plays into yet another fear. Once I read this series, I’ll be caught up and there won’t be any unread Kristoff in the world. Don’t try and figure my logic out – it will give you a headache! There’s that and the font in my physical copy is so small I can’t read more than a few pages without a headache. So there’s that.

This list ended up being a list of all fantasy series that I need to start…. that wasn’t intentional! That just goes to prove that fantasy loves a good series. I wish I could say that I’m using this whole isolation BS to take on my backlist of unread books BUT, sadly, it’s not happening. I hope that I get in the mood to read soon and I can take down as many of these series that I can!

Until next time, happy reading!

I know the feeling with sci-fi and fantasy almost everything is a series! I wouldn’t mind if more standalone fantasy came out every now and then, as much as I love series, it would be nice to have some standalones too.

I hope you manage to get reading again. I can’t believe I haven’t read anything by Jay Kristoff or Brandon Sanderson yet; they both have such incredible sounding books. If you’re scared of there being no more unread Jay Kristoff books left though just remember that he has a new series coming out later this year (I think; I’m not entirely sure now as release dates keep getting pushed).

    1. Yeah it was supposed to be released last year but pushed it back because he was busy with other projects. It could get pushed back again – but I will wait until the end of the earth for his books!

Aww it’s such a shame when that happens. Fingers crossed it doesn’t get pushed again as if sounds amazing 😍 I hope you end up enjoying it when it does come out.
