Top 5 Popular Books I Haven’t Read (yet)

Hey everyone and happy Tuesday! I hope you’re all safe, happy, and healthy in your little isolation oasis (if I’m super happy and peppy I can convince myself, right?). Today we’re going to be talking about the books you see everywhere. Almost everyone you know has read it and you’re totally missing out on the action because you haven’t read it yet. Sometimes those popular books have so much to live up to! People are raving about them constantly and you wonder how in the world the book could ever live up to it. OR, if you’re like me, popular books seem to lose their appeal because everyone is reading it. Now that I say that out loud, that logic sounds really stupid lol. But it’s true! I often wait until the hype dies down before I’ll finally read a popular book. No one ever said I had to make sense! So, these are 5 popular books that I actually OWN but haven’t read yet….

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme where I explore different topics. If you are interested in participating I would love to have you! Here is a list of my Upcoming topics in April – please remember to ping back a specific post of mine so I get a notification and I will add you to the participants list!

The star touched queen

THE STAR TOUCHED QUEEN by Roshani Chokshi

I’ve had so many people tell me that I’m going to love these books and that her writing style is something out of this world. It sounds like everything I would love so, why haven’t I read it? No clue! I’ve actually had this book sitting on my shelf since it was released….. I got it on sale and knew I was going to read it….. sometime….

the fifth season

THE FIFTH SEASON by N.K. Jemisin

As a fantasy lover, this book (and author) comes up A LOT. Yet another author that’s said to have a unique and amazing writing style. I actually just finished her newest release, The City We Became, and really enjoyed it! That was more of an urban fantasy and this is an epic fantasy which is more up my alley. I did try to pick this one up many months ago but the prologue scared the shit out of me….. Now that i’ve read another one of her books and liked it, i’m a little less hesitant to pick this one up.

To kill a kingdom

TO KILL A KINGDOM by Alexandra Christo

If there’s a book that people have tried to force me to read, this is the one. People that I wouldn’t even think would enjoy this loved it so much they would have given it 50 stars if there were 50 available. I love a good mermaid story so maybe i’ll get to this soon? Ish…

A Little Life

A LITTLE LIFE by Hanya Yanagihara

This book has sat on my shelf for years. as in maybe 4-5 years to be exact. Even people who claim to be dead on the inside said that they cried like babies over this one and I need that in my life (yes, i’m clearly a fan of self torture). But I know that I need to be in the right mood for this one. I started it a few months ago and got maybe 100 pages in and set it aside. It’s the type of book that you need to dedicate all your time and heart into and I haven’t been ready for that quite yet.

The Goldfinch

THE GOLDFINCH by Donna Tartt

I’ve yet to read anything by this author and I really need to change that! So many people have added this to their all time favourites list. It’s huge, but that’s not what scares me. It’s the fact that people either love it or hate it, with nothing in between. It’s going to be a movie very soon and I CAN’T watch the movie before reading the book! That’s just a big NO. So I guess that means I need to get to it soon?

Funny that almost every one of these I mention that I needed to read them soon. That should mean that all of these should be on my immediate TBR, right? Let’s be realistic here – if I haven’t gotten to them yet, there’s a high chance that I won’t find the motivation soon for all of them. But if I can manage to knock off at least a couple of these over the next few months, I would be totally happy!

What popular books out there haven’t you picked up yet?

Until next time, happy reading!

N.K. Jemisin is one author I’ve def been sleeping on & I’m trying to change that this year. I have The City We Became on my library holds coming through soon. Looks like I’ll also be reading their new book before the hyped up Fifth Season but maybe it’ll also give me the final push to start that series *fingers crossed* Happy reading! 🙂

I’ve had The Fifth Season on my TBR list for years now! I think I’ve just been hesitant about starting yet another trilogy, even though it’s supposed to be excellent. I do want to get to it! I haven’t read A Little Life yet either, and for me, it’s definitely about the length.

Read To Kill a Kingdom! I might be a bit biased because I have an unhealthy obsession with mermaids, but I highly recommend it! 😀

I haven’t read any of these either. Your logic about not wanting to read what everyone else has already read, makes perfect sense to me. By the way, I’ll probably be answering th is top 5 later in the week, as I am su per busy with the #AtoZChallenge and other posts and such. I love the topic though.

  10. Honestly, I’d say don’t bother with the Goldfinch. I powered through it just because it was supposed to be “so good,” but I regret wasting all that time on it. Even the kids I was teaching while I was reading it wondered if I was reading the Bible because the book was so thick! It started off okay, but it just never got better. I enjoyed The Secret History, but the Goldfinch could have had about ⅔ of the book cut out of it and been all the better for it.

  11. I’ve only read The Fifth Season of Jemisen’s works, but I really want to finish the trilogy! Which probably means I’ll need to go back and reread The Fifth Season….

I know how you feel, I have been forced to read books that I want to read but still won’t read soon. I will be doing this post soon. I haven’t read the Twilight and The hunger games and people look at me like I have murdered their father or in today’s time like I have corona positive. The golden finch is a book I would read soon. I hope you knock some off. How is your Hiatus going?? Is everything ok??

    Rest enough and Stay Safe❤✌😊
