Off The Grid Readathon TBR!

If there was ever a time that I needed this readathon – it’s now! I guess I don’t need the isolation of a weekend of reading…. as you all know, we have enough of that! But what I could really use is just being off the grid. No social media, no bad news, no reminders that the world is falling apart – just quiet bliss as I block it all out and read!

If you haven’t heard of the Off The Grid Readathon before, let me fill you in on the details. This is hosted by myself and Justine from I Should Read That and is a quarterly event. April’s edition will begin this Friday, April 17th as soon as the clock strikes midnight and will end at midnight on Sunday evening. That’s 3 whole days to read!

This is a really low key event. There are no challenges, no buddy reads, no reading sprints – just read when you can and as much as you can. The whole point of this readathon is to stop getting distracted by your phone, tv, etc. and read when you should/could be reading. If you only have 30 minutes of reading time then utilize all of  those minutes! Don’t scroll through twitter for 25 of those minutes and then realize you only have 5 minutes left lol. For more detailed information, check out the announcement post HERE.

Today I’ll be sharing with you the books I want to read this weekend. You might notice that there are way more books than a person should be able to read in a weekend…. I think me and my co-host were once again thinking the exact same thing! Justine talked about in her You Tube video that she wanted to extend the readathon to last into the week, and I plan on doing the same thing. I’ve been finding myself so bogged down lately with social media and I really need to take my mind off things and reset. That will mean shutting my phone off for a few days or putting it on silent. I just can’t handle the stress, sadness and anxiety in the world right now! So, I plan on going “off the grid” for more than just three days! This post is already getting too long – let’s just see what I want to read already lol.

First of all, I need to finish these two books. I’m SO CLOSE to finishing THE BROMANCE BOOK CLUB by Lyssa Kay Adams and will hopefully finish it the first day of the readathon! Next is THE NIGHTINGALE by Kristin Hannah. I have a feeling that this book is going to ruin my emotions and I’m going to need a lot of time to recover…. maybe this wasn’t a good idea to pick up during a readathon….. lol

Saga vol 1

Here’s the one that I’m most excited for – I plan on reading the first EIGHT books in the Saga series……. and I can’t freaking wait!!! This series is perfect for a readathon! It’s fast paced, full of adventure, science fiction and fuckery (I mean that literally and non literally of course), and I’ve been in need of a reread of these books!

The Glass Hotel

The next book I hope to pick up is THE GLASS HOTEL by Emily St. John Mandel. This is the first book released since her hit Station Eleven and I can’t wait to get to this! Her characters are so interesting and the way she weaves threads between them all is nothing short of amazing. I don’t know too much about this book as I would rather go into it blindly and discover it all for myself.

The light over london

Last but not least, I have one more book that I would like to get to (if I manage to get through the first eleven that is…..) and that’s THE LIGHT OVER LONDON by Julia Kelly. I’ve really been in the mood for historical fiction lately and this has been on my shelf for far too long. It’s also written by my co-hosts sister……. so it’s meant to be!!

12 books….. yup. I plan to finish 12 books….. I think I’ve lost my damn mind lol! The first two i’ve gotten most of the way through though so that should be easy. And the 8 Saga books are short graphic novels. But still…… this is going to be a challenge and I’m totally up for it!! Are you participating in this round of the readathon? Let us know!

Until next time (aka, after the readathon of course), happy reading!

I LOVE the Saga comics. Have fun!

I’ll be participating this year in the Off the Grid a thon as well as loosely the Reading Rush. Today I’ll be doing homework, though, but after that it’s off limits until Monday. I would love to read a week away right now.

  7. Only 12? I’ve got 17 in my TBR. 😛 Alright, I admit that those I don’t read this weekend will be reserved for the Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon next weekend. So far, I’m on my third book.
