Weekly Wrap Up – April 6 – 12

This week seemed to go so much better. I think that i’m starting to settle into the new “normal” of isolation life. I think I only cried twice! So that’s a start lol. I think that animal crossing has really helped my sanity….. and finishing books made me feel productive! I actually finished two books this week AND a short story! My blogging motivation has fallen a bit though. It’s hard to feel motivated and creative when you’re stuck inside the house 24/7….. and I know i’m not the only one that’s struggling. My posts are late (if I even get around to writing them) and they’re inconsistent. But i’m not sad about it. I’ve got lots to talk about so let’s get to it!

The first book I finished this week was HOUSE OF EARTH AND BLOOD by Sarah J Maas. I had some really mixed feelings about it in the beginning but that ending freaking slayed me! It was one of the most intense, explosive, and fast paced endings i’ve read! There was a ton of set up in this book and it kind of threw you right into the situation without any explanation. But now that the set up is out of the way, and the way this book ended, book 2 is going to be epic!

The second book I finished this week was BEARD SCIENCE by Penny Reid. This was the third book to the Winston Brothers series which I am absolutely LOVING! There’s the perfect balance of sweet, funny, drama, sexy, and it’s been the perfect escape from reality. I loved the first two books BUT this one was hands down the best so far!

The last thing I read was a short story. I think that it was only about 40 pages or so and damn! A DEAD DJINN IN CAIRO by P Djeli Clark was pretty freaking good and not nearly long enough! I’ve never reviewed a short story but I will be posting some thoughts on this one tomorrow.

The bromance book club

Apparently isolation has turned this blog into a romance blog….. I don’t even know what’s come over me! Romance has been just what i’ve needed lately so when this popped up on a deal for Kindle I jumped on the chance to read it. This one will also knock off a challenge for the Pop Sugar Reading Challenge! I like it but there are a few things that have really gotten under my skin. It’s a quick read and I hope to finish it soon.

This weeks topic was so much fun! It was all about the Top 5 sanity savers – things i’m enjoying while in isolation. Since the whole world is in this together, it’s nice to see what everyone is doing to keep themselves busy and bring joy to their daily lives. This Tuesday’s topic is all about humour – top 5 books that made me laugh!

I know that I need a break from the news and social media. There’s so much sadness everywhere! There’s also anger, anxiety, and misinformation. I can’t wait to take 3 days away from it all and just focus on my reading and my family. If you’re looking for details on participation, check out the 2020 ANNOUNCEMENT POST HERE! I will be posting my TBR for this in just a few days 🙂

I’ve literally always joked that if I was a teacher, I would be THAT teacher that has a coffee mug on their desk that suspiciously smells like whiskey…… i’ve become that teacher lol!!! The official announcement hasn’t come from the Canadian Government yet, but I know that they won’t be going back to school this year. My daughter is in grade 9 (high school) and my son is in grade 4. My daughter is pretty self sufficient so far, but my sons schooling requires a lot of time and work (and, holy shit, patience). I’m struggling folks……. I don’t have the patience for this! I may be a repeat offender for day drinking….

That was my week! A little better than the last two weeks and i’m liking that direction! Today is the day that we would normally be having a big easter dinner. I miss my parents so freaking much! When I can finally hug them I think i’m going to hug them until our bones crack! Instead of a big dinner with the entire family, I think we’re going to hang out outside – 6 feet apart playing outdoor games. My parents on one side and then us on the other. If it’s nice out then we may even order pizza and eat on separate sides of the fire pit lol. Getting inventive for family time lol. I hope you all had a great week and, most of all, I hope you’re all safe and healthy!!!

Until next time, happy reading!

I’ll be joining the readathon, although I have to go in to work on Friday to do payroll and a few other office things. So I’ll be starting sometime Friday afternoon. I’m looking forward to it!

Off the Grid!! Now I have motivation to get cracking on my homework this week! And I’m kind of glad I don’t have kids right now and I’m the student…I feel so bad for parents with young children right now.

    1. It’s interesting let me tell you!! My daughter is doing well but my son and his lack of motivation is driving me nuts! This week he has a lot of math and he loves math – so it should be a better week for me 😂

    1. Well, we do seem to be very similar in a lot of ways lol. Especially now that I’ve fallen down the romance hole….. that sounded bad….. 😂

I have got to get into that Penny Reid series! I think they are on Kindle Unlimited or Scribd, but I think I may purchase the hard copy just because I love the covers!
