March 2020 Book Haul!

Not only are my days all screwed up, but apparently my years are too…… I just typed 2019…… where have my brain cells gone? lol March has been an interesting month for the whole world and I’ve honestly never been so happy to have books! I haven’t read as much as I wanted to (more on that in my wrap up…) but I’ve acquired a few this month. Most i’ve read, and one I’m a few chapters into. Let’s see what books made their way onto my shelves this month 🙂

ARC’S I GOT FROM PUBLISHERS:

The first book I got was from Raincoast Books Canada (Tor) and that was The House In The Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune. This book was a total surprise! I was a little let down by the pacing of this book and then it turned out that I was thankful for it! I really enjoyed this one. And then there was The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin which came from Hachette Book Group Canada (Orbit) and was my first time reading this author. It was interesting but in a good way. Her writing style is so unique and now I can’t wait to get to more of her books!

PHYSICAL COPIES AND EBOOKS:

The first of my purchases in March was a given, and one that i’ve started already….. though i’m not really that far at all…. and that’s House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas. This is her first adult fantasy and let me just say THANK YOU! I absolutely adore her books but always wondered what she could do if she wrote for adults. I’m in the middle of finding out! Then there’s Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames which is one i’ve been told by so many people that I need to read! I love the sound of a fantasy where a bunch of famous heroes are all old and out of shape then are forced to “get the band back together” for another expedition…. sounds like fun times! Lastly we have Long Shot by Kennedy Ryan. Yet another book that i’ve had so many people recommend. I know nothing about the plot and I want to go into it that way. But i’ve been promised that this is hard hitting and tackles a difficult topic in a really well written way. I hope to get to this soon!

Those are the 5 books that I hauled in March 🙂 Because of this Covid-19 bullshit, i’ve temporarily lost my job with no idea when I can return. Fun fucking times. Unemployment has been filed and i’m playing the waiting game for my first payment. Things aren’t tight just yet and I know that a lot of the bills I have to pay are promising to be accommodating, so I hope that things will be ok. Time will tell. Despite the tight budget there will still probably be books bought in April…… I don’t care if it’s irresponsible or not! I know I’m going to need some book buying therapy and I’ve got lots of time to read now, so………. hit me over the head with a hammer and knock some sense into me! LOL! Hope you’re all doing well and are staying home and safe!

Until next time, happy reading!

I bought House of Earth and Blood this month, too. The House in the Cerulean Sea looks gorgeous and I really want to get into N.K. Jemisin also. While I’m lucky in a lot of ways, I’m trying not to buy books right now. Not just because of money, but because I bought maybe a *little* too much these past few months…That, and I have a shit ton of library books checked out, too.

  4. I’m sorry to hear you’ve lost your job because of the virus. It’s really scary out there right now. I’ve definitely done some retail therapy, so I know where you’re coming from with that. I hope things get better for everyone soon.

I think I’d go mad without books and audiobooks too, Shanah. I hope April improves for all of us and things begin to get better. 💜

Sorry to hear about your job. I hope things get back to normal for you. Based on the cover alone (yes, I am judging) The House In The Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune would be my top pick.
