Top 5 Tuesday – Authors from P to T

Let me get real here – I had lengthy intro outlining all of the things i’m struggling with. This week was even harder than the last. But you all know what it’s like! The whole world is struggling right now! Let’s take this time to forget it all and focus on authors for a while. Those lovely, creative, brilliant human beings that have allowed us to escape into a different reality while in isolation and quarantine. Who are we talking about this week? That would be authors with the letters P, Q, R, S and T! There’s only one more Tuesday left in the series, and it’s going to be the hardest one yet!!

Disclaimer – Ontario ordered all non essential businesses to close at midnight tonight. That means our business. Since today is our last day open (queue me freaking out about money!!) for the foreseeable future, we expect it to be very busy. I will update as often as possible 🙂

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme where I explore different topics. If you are interested in participating I would love to have you! Here is a list of my Upcoming topics in March – please remember to ping back a specific post of mine so I get a notification and I will add you to the participants list!

For the letter P we have Mitali Perkins (You Bring The Distant Near) who wrote a book that completely caught me off guard! This book was just SO well written, full of emotion, and spans generations as they deal with being Indian and American and finding out what that means for their identity. Then we have Marisha Pessl (Night Film) who’s book actually made me enjoy a mystery and made me want more! This was weird and creepy – and talking about it made me realize I need to read more from her!

Hmmmmmm…… Q is another one that I don’t have an author for…… so here’s yet another picture of my dog Sophie! She’s my official isolation buddy. We like cuddles lol.

This was unexpected – the letter R was really difficult to narrow down! There were SO MANY! But Penny Reid (Truth or Beard) is a romance series i’m currently in the middle of and LOVING! Taylor Jenkins Reid (The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo) has made me cry more times than I can count! Her characters are just outstanding! Then we have Patrick Rothfuss (The Name of the Wind) who is long winded but DAMN he writes amazing high fantasy! And, of course, we can’t forget J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter) who created a series that the whole world holds close to their heart!

The letter S was another difficult one – so many favourites! Tara Sivev (At The Stroke of Midnight) who wrote my favourite romance series of ALL TIME! It’s retelling of Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and the Little Mermaid. And then there’s Ruta Sepetys (Between Shades of Gray) who is possibly my favourite historical fiction author! We also can’t forget Brandon Sanderson (Mistborn) who is the king of magic and fantasy!

Lastly we have the letter T. Laini Taylor (Strange the Dreamer) who’s writing style is mind-blowing! Strange the Dreamer was also the first physical ARC I’ve ever received and I will cherish it forever! Then we have Angie Thomas (The Hate U Give) who’s books are real, raw, and full of emotion. I’ve met her and listened to her speak and she is effortlessly brilliant, just like her books! Then we have Sabaa Tahir (An Ember in the Ashes) who’s books I thought would be just ok but then I fell in love with her words!

I know exactly what you mean. I didn’t think last week could have been topped but it was! Thanks for making a post anyway. Also, Sophie is supercute! ❤
I got Laini Taylor on my list as well. Her writing style is so adaptive, I loved the difference between Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Days of Blood and Starlight. Strange the dreamer is on my tbr.

  2. A lot of great authors in this one! Q was nearly impossible though lol. I loved Night Film which is not a typical genre for me at all. Obviously love Rowling and I almost shared Angie Thomas on my post also but I couldn’t really call her book a light read (my self chosen theme for the week) so I went a different way.

    1. Night Film isn’t my chosen genre either so that was a pleasant surprise!

  3. Some of these letters were super hard to narrow down this week! If I had been talking about fave authors instead of “Need to Read,” Sanderson definitely would have been on my list!

    1. Yes! All the Sanderson!! Self isolation seems like the perfect time for some Sanderson. Considering starting The Way of Kings….. that would keep me busy for a while lol
