Weekly Wrap Up – February 17 – 23

This week didn’t go as planned – AT ALL! In one way it was fantastic! And in another way – it was awful! Let’s start with the positives – I finished THREE books this week! What the shit?! When I sat down to write this post, I actually forgot that I had finished a single book – so just imagine my surprise to realize that I had read three lol. You’re probably wondering how in the hell I forgot that I read books… here’s where the awful part of my week comes in……

On Thursday I woke up with a weird pain near the base of my tongue. Throat felt fine, mouth felt fine, so I couldn’t understand where the discomfort was coming from. I made myself some oatmeal for lunch thinking that something soft to eat would probably be for the best. That didn’t work out at all! A few minutes after I was done eating I looked in the mirror and saw that the whole left side of my face, jaw, and neck was swollen, and it hurt like a bitch! Having been diagnosed with thyroid cancer just over 3 years ago, my mind immediately jumped to conclusions and I ended up having a massive panic attack. Off I go to the hospital, shaking like a leaf, crying uncontrollably, and terrified. Turns out it’s an infected/blocked saliva gland…… who knew?! I had no clue that this could even happen! The doctor was amazing and sat on the bed beside me with his laptop and showed me in pictures what was happening. The panic attack slowed and I was on my way home with antibiotics and a “prescription” for sour candies to get the saliva moving. My first thought was YES!!! Finally a doctor is telling me to eat shit that’s not good for me! Until I ate 3 sour patch kids and felt like my face was melting lol. When the saliva got moving, my face swelled up like a balloon and it hurt like hell!! I’ve never hated sour candy so much in my whole life!

3 days into antibiotics, metric shit tons of water, 2 bags of sour patch kids, and a lot of rest later, I’m finally feeling better! Still sore, still a tiny bit swollen, and still exhausted from the panic attack. I haven’t answered any comments and set a bunch of posts aside that I had planned. I hope that this week I can get back to normal but I’m trying to listen to my body and rest.

Long winded intro that you probably don’t care about – let’s get to the books!!!!

BOOKS I FINISHED THIS WEEK:

The first book I finished this week was Well Met by Jen Deluca – this book was adorable! A woman moves to a new town, freshly broke up with her douche of a boyfriend, to take care of her sister and niece after her sister was injured in a car accident. She somehow gets roped into volunteering for the local renaissance faire and meets a man who is a controlling ass one minute, then a dirty sexy pirate the next minute. Yes, it’s as good as it sounds!

The second book I finished was my reread of Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. I actually listened to the audiobook this time around because it was narrated by Will Wheaton… he couldn’t have been more perfect for the job! The movie was something that I hated but then, my son became obsessed with it, and made me watch it a lot. I ended up enjoying it and then forgot a lot of what happened in the book. I still prefer the book – there were so many more pop culture references that didn’t make the movie! And I totally forgot that it mentioned my favourite Atari game as a child early on in the book!

Finally, I also finished The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides….. holy shit! I mean, holy shit! That was probably one of the most unexpected endings i’ve ever read!! The writing was incredible, I was totally interested in the writing and the plot…. but that ending! Full review to come this week!

BOOKS I’M CURRENTLY READING:

The republic of thieves

I’ve officially fallen off my TBR for the month. I initially tried to read The Shadow Saint by Gareth Hanrahan but I COULD NOT do it! It hurts me to say that! I loved The Gutter Prayer so much but the sequel – nope. Not even close. I’m not giving up on it entirely but, not happening now. So – I picked up The Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch instead – some humour with my fantasy is just what I needed!!! I literally just started it this morning so I’m not all that far into it. I’ve still literally laughed out loud 3 times so far so… this was a good choice!

OTHER BOOKISH NEWS:

TOP 5 TUESDAY:

This week we were talking about our Top 5 Bookish Habits and the lists were incredible! Just proves that we all have our own ways of reading and doing things! This week coming up we will be talking about the top 5 books that caused a major hangover – I’m dealing with a hangover as we speak – it’s a book I finished weeks ago and haven’t stopped thinking about it since! Any guesses?? The topics for March are being released tomorrow – and you’re in for a surprise!!!

This week coming up is going to be crazy busy. Yes, I’ll have posts planned and scheduled but I won’t be around much. Still recovering, catching up on things missed, and work is insane. I’ll try to be around as often as possible but I know better than to push myself. I hope you all had an amazing week!!

Until next time, happy reading!

Holy crap, that sounds painful! Who knew that could happen?! So weird. I’m glad that it was something that “simple” and not what you were having a panic attack about. And I’m so sorry about the panic attack. They are so scary. But three cheers for sour patch kids and antibiotics!

Oh man! So sorry you had that scare but glad you’re doing okay. The suspense at the beginning made me think you had a sore throat. I was sick at the beginning of Feb because a sore throat and fever crept up on me. Illnesses are so sneaky sometimes.

    1. Thankfully no sore throat. It was weird! So many people are getting sore throats and coughs that just won’t go away. It sucks 😢
