Weekly Wrap Up – February 10 – 16

This was a week filled with a LOT of reading! I gave up on cleaning my house, took advantage of some downtime and got caught up in the reading bug yet again – and it was wonderful! I ended up paying for it in the long run though – Saturday I spent hours cleaning the house like a mad woman. Because my house had fallen apart in such a spectacular fashion, I appreciated the cleanliness even more lol!! I also have some exciting bookish things to talk about! Let’s get to it!

When I said in my intro that I got a lot of reading done, I meant that I read well over 1,000 pages! One book alone was almost 800 pages! I’m really proud of myself for knocking down one of the largest books on my TBR in less than a week lol. WANDERERS by Chuck Wendig was well worth the page count though! It was freaky as hell to read a book that’s based on a disease that is threatening mass extinction of the entire planet all the while the coronavirus epidemic is happening. In fact, this book actually mentions the coronavirus….. and it was published well before the majority of the world even heard that word!! For my full thoughts, click here for the spoiler free review. And then we have THE SHINING by Stephen King. I have my review planned for this coming Wednesday and I have a feeling my thoughts are going to be quite controversial…..

Last year I struggled with fantasy. I didn’t connect to it the way that I hoped to. Lately though, I’ve been more interested than EVER! So it was hard to step away from it and pick up a romantic contemporary….. but it was valentines day week so, why not?! WELL MET by Jen DeLuca has been getting so many rave reviews so I had to pick it up. It’s about a renaissance fair…… YES PLEASE!!!!! I planned on reading it in one day yesterday but everyone came home a few hours earlier than I was expecting so, that didn’t happen. I did make it a good chunk of the way through though! Next, I started the audiobook for READY PLAYER ONE by Ernest Cline. This is my reread for the month and I decided to listen to it since it’s narrated by Will Wheaton. I love his narration! I’ve watched the movie a lot over the last year but hadn’t reread the book since the movie was released and I totally forgot how many more pop culture references there were that the movie didn’t touch on!

This weeks topic was the top 5 books that exceeded expectations and it’s one hell of a great topic if you’re looking for some amazing recommendations!! I ended up making my TBR grow with this one….. the participants lists were amazing! I’m really excited for next week though because we’re talking about your top 5 bookish habits!!!

OMG I’m sooooo excited!! Yes, I still bullet journal my daily life (which you can see those pictures on my Instagram) BUT this week I picked up a new journal – dedicated just to books! I won’t be tracking pages read or anything like that. I’ll be using it kind of like a scrapbook of sorts. For each book I read there will be a two page spread with the book cover, random pictures, some designs/papers, pen and marker work and more. I plan on writing out the synopsis (because I frequently forget what books are about a few months after I read them lol), some quotes from the book and then my thoughts. I really want to post pictures as I go but I have a dilemma – there will be spoilery thoughts written down…. maybe I can blur the text?

Pinch me…… someone please pinch me….. this can’t be real! Tickets went on sale for the new Rage Against The Machine concert series and WE GOT TICKETS!!! Not only did we get tickets but this will be my sons first ever concert AND our seats are right beside the stage!!!!! It was expensive…… I’m talking OUCH kind of expensive. But this is my husbands favourite band in the whole world and he’s finally going to get to see them!!! We see them July 23rd in Toronto – i’m impatiently counting down the days!!!

Not sure if she’s reading this or not but – HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!! She’s 60 years young as of yesterday and doesn’t even look close to her age! She’s such a beautiful person inside and out. Despite our struggles when I as a teenager (aka we were both stubborn bitches, too much alike, and me with my teenage hormones) you have grown to be my best friend in the whole world! I love you to the moon and back!

I feel like there was more I had to say but, after my cleaning and reading marathon, I’m too exhausted to think. My goal this week is to finish 3 books. I know it’s asking for a lot but I think I can do it! I’m prepared to take full advantage of my mood to read all the books! I hope you all had a fantastic week!!!

Until next time, happy reading!

Aw, happy birthday to your mom! My mom turned 69 on February 12, and it sounds like our relationships with our moms had a similar track. We are the best of friends now and talk on the phone at least twice a week, but we were definitely NOT friends when I was a teenager. Same as you: too much alike and neither of us would back down from an argument. It’s so nice to grow up and have that relationship become something great, isn’t it?
