Weekly Wrap Up – Jan 13 – 20

OMG What a week!!! The amount of reading I got done this week was mind-blowing. Equally as mind-blowing were the books that I read! From Friday to Sunday I was hosting the first Off The Grid Readathon for 2020. I was excited for it but I had no clue how successful it would be!! I managed to read a total of 1,113 pages this weekend!!!! Holy shit! On Saturday alone I read 639 pages. This was hands down the most successful readathon yet!! I lucked out and had a kid free day and we had a snow storm – so all there was to do was read. Thank god for that! I’ve got so many books to talk about so let’s get to it!

The first book I read this week was The Gutter Prayer by Gareth Hanrahan…… if this book doesn’t end up on my top 10 for the year then I’ll be shocked! This book kicked my ass! It starts off slow – like really slow. I was still on page 150 wondering what the endgame was and thinking that I was going to have to disappoint Justine and rate it 3 stars. Then, at about page 300, it picked up and I couldn’t stop! This book was probably the most unique fantasy books I’ve EVER read – there’s nothing out there like this. My review is coming Wednesday and it’s going to be a long one. I’ve got SO MUCH to talk about!!!! Warning though….. this one created a massive book hangover and I’m still not over it. I’m so glad I have the sequel because that’s happening soon!!

The second book I read was Tilly and the Lost Fairytales by Anna James. This is the sequel to Tilly and the Bookwanderers. I really enjoyed this one though not as much as the first one. This one was a little more dark and serious compared to book 1 – not that I minded though! It was just different and I kind of missed the magic and whimsy. Full review coming Thursday

Lastly, we have Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin.…….. LOU!!!!! Dear fucking lord LOU!! I heard this book was good but I was taken aback by how much I ended up loving this one!!!! Mia from Nevernight might be my number 1 girl in books but Lou comes a close second. My full review is coming on Friday and it will consist of me gushing about how much I love Lou over and over and over and over!!!

The stars we steal

Even though my book hangover from The Gutter Prayer is going strong, I didn’t want to forget about my ARC’s. The Stars We Steal by Alexa Donne is coming out at the beginning of February and sounds really interesting! We have a love to hate to love relationship (?) in space and there is a ship that runs whiskey….. My Irish and Scottish heritage are screaming YES PLEASE lol.

Top 5 Tuesday is back for 2020!! And the first topic of the year was the Top 5 Books I NEED To Read in 2020! I always make these lists and I always find a way to fail. Not this year! I am determined bitches! I actually plan to read a few of these really soon! Next week’s topic is Top 5 reasons I rate a book 5 stars. A bit of a weird topic but I always find it interesting to see the reasons people give books a high rating. Everyone is different!

This is the third Off The Grid Readathon in a row that i’ve ended up with an ocular migraine….. I think this is proof that reading is bad for my health lol!! The only time I’ve had a migraine like this (that ends up affecting my vision) is when i’ve been reading a lot. The last readathon in October landed me in the hospital. I’ve only ever had this issue before when I was reading a lot of ebooks. When I switched back to paper copies then it kind of went away. This one wasn’t too bad thankfully. Maybe I need stronger glasses…. or maybe I shouldn’t be reading with them on? I might have to make a trip to the eye doctor…..

That’s all i’ve got for today. I spent the whole week working, reading, or sleeping and that was about it. Expect next week to be a review heavy week as I’ve got a lot to catch up on! If all my readathons were this successful, I might have to do them more often lol! Hope you all had a great week!

Until next time, happy reading!

  1. I’m in love with cover of the Star we steal 😍

  2. I’m definitely interested in Serpent & Dove, though I don’t know when I’ll get to it. Still, the fact that you loved it makes me happy it’s still on my TBR.

    Thanks for posting this!

  3. I absolutely LOVED Serpent & Dove. The central conceit of how they end up married is slightly absurd, but Lou is fantastic, and I just loved how much she needled Reid.
