Top 5 Books I NEED to read in 2020!

Top 5 Tuesday is back! You finally don’t have to wonder what you’ll post on a Tuesday lol! This is probably my favourite topic of the whole year. I love starting off a new year with a list of the top 5 books that I need to get to in that year. Do I ever get to all 5 on the list before December 31st? Nope! Not once. But a girl can have goals lol! This year I really want to make these a priority so I can say that i’ve read them all. Just once lol

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme where I explore different topics. If you are interested in participating I would love to have you! Here is a list of my Upcoming Topics in January – please remember to ping back a specific post of mine so I get a notification and I will add you to the participants list!

Wanderers

WANDERERS by Chuck Wendig

The first book is one that I plan to start this month actually. I say that now and then I remember how big this freaking book is and then I get scared and run away. This book sounds SO interesting and i’ve heard nothing but good things about this author. This will also be the first time that I’ve read a book where me and the main character share a name! No one ever has my name in books!! This is going to be weird folks. I hope she’s not a pain in the ass. That would be a disappointment lol.

The republic of thieves

THE REPUBLIC OF THIEVES by Scott Lynch

This is the third book to the Gentleman Bastards series and I am dying to get to it! I even got it in this beautiful anniversary edition and I want to hug it tightly. I LOVE this series – mainly because of the characters Locke and Jean. I’ve never loved characters so much in my whole life! The problem with this series is that the books take me SO LONG to read. The font in my previous copies have been so small which made it hard. This is also the type of book where every detail matters and comes back to bite you in the ass a few hundred pages down the line. I can’t wait!

The Shining

THE SHINING by Stephen King

One of my goals for 2020 is to pick up more Stephen King. I love his writing and I love horror, so this goal is meant to happen. I think i’ve only read 3 of his books. I loved them all but usually get scared off by the length. His books are normally bricks! I’ve seen this movie more times than I can count – now it’s time to see how much better the book is!

Foundryside RD4 clean flat

FOUNDRYSIDE by Robert Jackson Bennett

This is one of the few books where I haven’t heard a single bad comment. Everyone that’s read this book has loved it and told me that it’s right up my alley. Strangely enough – I don’t even know what it’s about lol. I love going into a book not having a clue what you’re getting into. Even the smallest of things is a surprise!

Record of a spaceborn few

RECORD OF A SPACEBORN FEW by Becky Chambers

I got this book months ago…….. months ago! It still sits on my TBR shelf unread. Why? I don’t have a damn clue! Ok maybe I know – the second book in the series was a serious disappointment for me so now i’m scared to continue. Justine at I Should Read That assures me that this one brings the series back to the tone of the first book – and I trust every word that comes out of her mouth! So I need to get to this. I NEED TO!

There they are folks – the top 5 books I need to get to this year. There are a few others that I could have added to the list, but I KNOW I’m going to get to them – such as The Empire Of Gold by S.A. Chakraborty, and Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff. Since those are definitely going to happen, I left them off the list. These are just the ones that I really want to read but there’s still a chance that I could chicken out and forget them…. What books do you want to read this year?

Until next time, happy reading!

  4. I purchased Wanders when it was on sale toward the end of 2019. I too have heard nothing but rave reviews! The size is the only thing keeping it off my immediate TBR lol. Wish you luck in getting all of these (and more) read in 2020! I made a #20in20 list on Monday so do I get extra credit? lol https://bit.ly/2NqbhJI

  6. The Shining is a good one, but the movie is way creepier!

    1. I’d say that it’s 50/50 now. Some people think the book is creepier. I guess I’ll find out this year…. or I better find out this year lol

  7. Hahaha, oh Record of a Spaceborn few, why have I forsaken you? I also have had a copy for over a year and haven’t managed to read it (and I really enjoyed the first two!). You are in for SUCH a treat with Foundryside, I loved it so much. Wanderers is one I wasn’t really interested in at first, but basically every one I know who’s read it LOVED it.

    1. Ha! So it’s not just me? I don’t know why I’ve put it off for so long! I really want to start Wanderers soon. But it’s SO FREAKING BIG! 😂

  8. I remember reading Shining years ago. It’s a great book but the vibe from the movie is kind of different than the one from the novel. I’m so curious to read what you think about it!

  9. I had to read The Shining (and watch the movie!) as part of a Stanley Kubrick class in college. I then promptly buried the book under everything I could in my closet so it would never see the light of day again!
