2020 Reading and Blogging Goals!

It’s not only the beginning of a new year, but the beginning of a new decade…. and I’ve got big plans! 2019 was quite a hectic year (understatement) so I knew that I needed to take a step back and reflect on my life. I’m a super busy person. Between running two businesses, 2 kids, a husband, a dog, baking at a restaurant, reading AND blogging…… I was running myself ragged trying to get it all done. The year started off great and then my planning and organizing fell apart. I ended the year wanting to pull the hair out of my head lol. As much as I wanted my hiatus to be over, I’m SO GLAD I took the time to think about all the things that were right or wrong, and then make some changes. I’m a Taurus so naturally I HATE change, but these ones are for the best and I think this is going to be my best year yet!!

Read 75 books:

The first thing I want to talk about is my Goodreads goal. I was originally going to set it at 52 books (1 a week) but then I changed it at the last minute. I knew that 52 books in a year wouldn’t be a challenge. So I went up to 75 knowing that might push me a little. I plan on reading some longer books this year so 75 might be a tight race!

Expect more sass! And maybe foul language too…..

This is going to be a game changer for my blog. When I first started out I wanted to be 100% professional. I knew that there were going to be teenagers reading my blog and I knew that I was working with publishers. I didn’t think that sass and swearing was right for me. Here’s the thing – I wasn’t being me! I have quite the potty mouth in real life……. i’m talking, I could make even the most foul mouthed of sailors blush! I’m not going to go all out and letting the F-bombs fly all over the place (there will be a few though!), but expect a lot more swearing. My humour is also interesting…… One of my favourite reviews EVER was for Sorcery of Thorns which I wrote when I was really tired and feisty. The amount of comments I got on that post was overwhelming! It just shows me that you appreciate my humour (sick bastards) so you’ll be getting a lot more of it! Be prepared……

Finish my Harry Potter reread!!

In 2019 I managed to read the first 4 books in the series. They’re the ones I’ve read the most so it was easy lol. Now I just need to finish up the series. I think i’ve only read the last 2 books one time each….. this is long overdue!

BE MORE CREATIVE!!!

I felt like the blog got a little stale in 2019….. and the views proved it. I was far too busy to keep up with creating new and interesting content and basically gave up towards the end. I wrote posts just to get them published but my heart wasn’t in it. Thank you for sticking around through that! I have a renewed love for books and blogging and plan to come back in a BIG way! I’ve got a bunch of new ideas floating around (especially when it comes to picking my TBR’s).

Quality over quantity – posting less

Along the same lines as “being more creative”, I want to focus more on the quality of my posts opposed to the number of posts. I also don’t want to publish a post just because I think I HAVE to post 6 days a week. Will there be a blogging schedule? Nope! I’ll post when I damn well feel like it lol. Some weeks, if I have a lot to talk about, I could post up to 7 days a week. That will make up for the weeks I don’t have much to say and only post twice. Point is – I’m not going to run myself into the ground just to post content. It’s not fair to me OR you. I would rather post less and be happier with what i’m posting.

2020 – the year of the reread??

I LOVE rereading books! So many favourites that I miss and would love to revisit. Each month I plan to reread at least ONE book – if not more. I put a few titles of books that I want to reread in a jar, and when I want to reread one, I’ll pull one out of the jar! I’m so excited to revisit some of my favourite worlds and characters! (Also, the Harry Potter reread doesn’t count for this!)

“You actually have an Instagram account?”

You may not have noticed BUT – I actually have an instagram account. The reason you might not have known? I got too fucking lazy and posted only when I had to lol!! Not this year! I wanted to post more and then, by the end of the month, I realized that I hadn’t posted a single thing. I don’t want to commit to a number of posts a week…. I don’t have a death wish…. but it will be a lot more often! I recently got back into bullet journalling so there will be mostly bullet journal pics. If you like books and bullet journals, come check me out! Also – hold me accountable to this!!!! I’m good at making goals and not sticking to them lol.

Those are my goals for 2020! It’s a long ass list and my fingers hurt from typing (call me a baby if you want to – i’ve got thick skin). Like I mentioned above – I’m really good at making goals and then not sticking to them. I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting and made this goals to save my sanity and bring the fun back into reading and blogging. So I really hope I can stick to these! What goals did you set this year???

Until next time, happy reading!

I have actually gotten into a habit of posting every day on Instagram. I really don’t like that habit though because I get antsy if it gets to be lunch time and I haven’t posted a picture yet 😥.

    1. That’s how I felt with blogging last year. It’s an awful feeling. But wow! You’re pretty amazing for doing that!!

    1. YES!!! I’m having so much more fun now that I’m being me. I’m still reigning it in a bit. I would scare you all away if I talked like I do in real life 😂

100% here for sweary Shanah! Deciding I was going to be more authentically me (which means also being more sweary) on my BookTube channel was gamechanging!

I always appreciate reviews that both communicate honestly about a book and that show the personality of the blogger behind the review, so more humour and swearing can only be a good thing! I am so with you on re-reading. I felt like last year I hit a reading rut and picked up a lot of good/great books but few that really stuck with me and it left me really wanting to re-read my favourites, so one of my goals is to give myself permission to re-read. Good luck with your reading and blogging goals!

  8. I’m a bit excited about the sass and swearing. That’s how I am in life, too. I struggle with making it come across well online, but I’m fluent in sarcasm. 🙂

    1. Bwahahahaha!! I’m not very good with sarcasm. I usually just come off as an asshole when I try 😂

      1. I probably do, too. But luckily the people I spend the most time with are sarcastic. So they totally get it.

  9. Aw I love this! I really like my voice to shine through in my posts which is why I don’t omit slang and I’m happy to see that we’ll be getting some more fun posts this year 😀

One of my goals was to be more active in the blogging community, something I struggle with on and off but hopefully this year I’ll stand by it

    1. Yes – that last bit I struggle with too. Some days I find it hard to even respond to comments. Another 12 hours in a day might help 😂

  10. I only managed to get through the first 4 Harry Potter books as well. By the time I finally finished the fourth I decided to hold off continuing on with the next one because I wasn’t feeling it anymore. I will hopefully finish the last 3 toward the end of this year. I’ve only ever reread the first one so the rest I am rereading for the first time. All of my goals revolve around the challenges I have for this year.

    1. Nice!! What challenges are you doing? I thought about doing the pop sugar challenge but I don’t really keep to it. I’m looking for a good challenge this year 🙂

      1. I opted out of the pop sugar challenge this year because I didn’t keep up with it at all last year. I’ve mostly just created my own challenges to help me read my owned books like 20 In 2020, Husband Picks 10 and I want to read all of my unread Nicholas Sparks books. I’ve also joined some other major like Romanceopoly; ARCApocalypse and the In Death Readalong. I’m also low key doing some challenges that were included in the planner I bought but I’m just going to mark those of if I happen to read something that fits.

        1. Oh husband picks 10….. that could be really interesting! My husband is too sadistic for that maybe….. he would just end up picking 10 of the longest books I have and laughing 😂 sounds like you’ve got 2020 figured out! Best of luck!

          1. I’m surprised my husband hasn’t thought of that lol. Luckily I think he picked reasonably. I sure hope I stick too it. Thank you and good luck to you as well.
