October 2019 Book Haul!

I didn’t even plan on getting books this month. It just sort of happened. You think i’m lying…. I’m actually not! LOL! But when opportunity presents itself for putting new books on my shelf, I’m not going to turn it down! It’s a great mix of books I bought and books from publishers. There are 10 books to talk about (oops!) so let’s jump in!

The first two books that I got this month were books I already owned – but they’re still necessary! I had gotten an ARC of Darkdawn but I needed a finished copy. And then there’s the gorgeous illustrated edition of Goblet of Fire. It’s so beautiful!!!

Sorcery of thorns

The next book I picked up was SORCERY OF THORNS by Margaret Rogerson. I’ve heard so many amazing things about this book! A lot of people are saying that they had a great time while reading it. Not something that would blow their minds, but still, it was a lot of fun. And I definitely need me some fun fantasy right now! And I heard that there’s a library and books in this one……. it’s meant to be!

The next two I picked up are super exciting! The first one – THE LIGHT OVER LONDON by Julia Kelly – when I saw it sitting on the shelf in Walmart in my hometown, I actually gasped out loud. See – I’ve been hearing about this book for years. I didn’t know her as Julia Kelly for the longest time though…….. Justine, co-host of the Off The Grid Readathon, blogger @ ishouldreadthat.com, and YouTube extraordinaire, just calls her “author sister”. That’s right. This is Justine’s sisters book! I’ve heard her talk about it for the longest time and I was so excited to see it for sale here! I can’t wait! Then there’s  FINDING CHRISTMAS by Karen Schaler. I love Christmas. Like, my obsession is unhealthy to be honest. This looks sweet, cheesy, festive, and meant for me!

The fountains of silence

This month from Penguin, I got THE FOUNTAINS OF SILENCE by Ruta Sepetys (click for full review) and I absolutely LOVED it! I’ve read all of her books now and she’s yet to disappoint! This one takes place in Spain in a time period that I know little about. The characters are so amazing that they leapt from the page and jumped right into my soul. Sooooooo good!

Come tumbling down

The last books I received this month were all from Raincoast Books Canada. The first one is COME TUMBLING DOWN by Seanan McGuire. I’ve never hidden the fact that I didn’t like the second book in this series, so when I learned that this book was once again going to focus on Jack and Jill, I was really apprehensive. Thankfully this book was amazing! You’ll have to wait until closer to publication date for the review though!

The last three books were sent to me as a part of a swag bag for the winter/spring review! I took part in the event through a live stream and there were so many amazing books mentioned! I need to prepare my wallet lol! ANNA K by Jenny Lee sounds absolutely adorable! I was a little unsure about it in the beginning but the more I find out about it, the more I get excited! SPARROW by Mary Cecelia Jackson is one that I really don’t know about if i’m being honest. It sounds hard hitting – a girl that was abused by her boyfriend. It’s being compared to Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, which is the one thing that’s keeping me interested. But this is a book that i’m not sure will be for my tastes. WICKED AS YOU WISH by Rin Chupeco, however, is a book that I can’t wait for! The cover is gorgeous and I’ve heard so many great things about this author!

With Christmas being only a few weeks away (I can’t believe I just said that!), I don’t plan on getting any books in November. If I have a book haul next month, feel free to yell at me! LOL!

Until next time, happy reading!

Isn’t Goblet of Fire just stunning?!?! I spent the whole weekend after I got it pouring over the pages and just soaking in the gorgeous book.
I am still on the fence about Sorcery of Thorns! I don’t typically do well with fantasy but all the reviews for it are so positive and it has a magical library/books! Uhgggg. You’ll have to let me know what you think of it.

    1. I LOVED Sorcery of Thorns! It’s kind of a light fantasy I would say. There’s magic, books that are alive, demons and more, but it’s really easy to digest. It was a really fun read without feeling like you’re in a fantastical world. And the libraries were amazing! I hope you give it a shot!

Oooh! Ok well that’s reassuring that it’s more of a light fantasy. I feel like I’ve asked that question to a bunch of different reviewers and never got any answers which put me on edge you know? Maybe after the move I’ll look into getting myself a copy.
