Top 5 Fall Reading Recommendations

Happy top 5 Tuesday!!! And happy second day of fall! Ok….. to us northern hemisphere dwellers anyway lol. Fall is by far my favourite season of the year. Yes, I like summer. Hot weather, swimming, camping, etc. But fall has my heart! The cool air, the leaves, the smells, pumpkins, plaid shirts, sweaters, boots, pumpkin spice lattes (because I’m basic AF) bon fires, fresh apples….. I could go on and on! And, because it’s finally cool outside, the weather is more comfortable to read! I tend to read more in the fall and winter months but it’s also the time of the year that I crave atmosphere. The 5 books that I’m going to mention are rich in atmosphere and are books you want to lose yourself in!

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme where I explore different topics. If you are interested in participating I would love to have you! Here is a list of my Upcoming topics in October – please remember to ping back a specific post of mine so I get a notification and I will add you to the participants list!

HP and the philosophers stone

THE HARRY POTTER SERIES BY J.K. ROLLING
The Harry Potter series is so perfect and atmospheric for fall! They always start when they’re headed back to Hogwarts in September, and there’s always something happening for Halloween! It’s full of magic, darkness, potions, creatures, and so much more! I think it’s SO perfect for fall that I actually started rereading the series! I just started book 3 yesterday and I’m absolutely LOVING it!

With the fire on high

WITH THE FIRE ON HIGH BY ELIZABETH ACEVEDO
Speaking of back to school, With The Fire On High is another book that begins at the beginning of a new school year. In this one, a single mother tries to balance her child, her high school education, friendships, and a passion for cooking. This is probably my favourite YA contemporary to date! There’s heart, soul, and adventure 🙂

The grace year

THE GRACE YEAR BY KIM LEGGETT
I don’t know if it’s fair for me to add this one to the list as it’s not published yet, but it publishes in just a few weeks which I would call perfect timing!!! This begins in the fall where girls in their 16th year are sent away from their community for an entire year so they can expel their magic and sins. Yup, it’s just as awful as you could imagine! We follow their year all the way through, so we see each of the seasons, but it begins and ends with fall. There’s also the atmosphere, which is dark, gritty, and a bit scary…

The hearts invisible furies

THE HEART’S INVISIBLE FURIES BY JOHN BOYNE
In the fall, I absolutely crave books that can go straight to my heart and pull on all my emotions. I don’t think that there’s a book out there that did that more than this one!! It’s a long one – the size is a little intimidating – but, for some reason, I love a lengthy book in the fall! I love being sucked into the lives of characters and this book is the perfect example!!

the-name-of-the-wind

THE NAME OF THE WIND BY PATRICK ROTHFUSS
I think that this is the number one book (aside from Harry Potter) that I recommend most when it comes to fall. Like I mentioned before, atmosphere is everything when it comes to books I read in September, October, and November. Not only is this full of atmosphere but it also has a school, magic, travel, relationships, and so much more! Too bad we don’t have the third book………..

There they are! When I first had the idea for this list, I honestly thought that there would be more fantasy than anything. I’m quite surprised that there were a few contemporaries on the list! I can’t wait for the fall weather to finally get here! What books would you recommend for fall reading?

Until next time, happy reading!

  4. OMG, seeing The Name of the Wind in your list makes me want to gush about it endlessly. hehe. I so love that book or the series. 🙂 And it really is perfect for fall. If it isn’t so long or if only the 3rd book is out, I would’ve reread it.

My list this week is top 10 because I merged T5T and T10T. 🙂 🙂 Here’s my link so it’s easier to find: https://lilisblissfulpages.wordpress.com/2019/09/24/10-fall-reading-recommendation/

    1. It’s one of those love it or hate it books. If you love high fantasy and don’t mind a detailed slow burn, then this is something you’re going to be obsessed with!
