Top 5 Funniest Characters

As much as I love the smart and serious characters, I’m always game for a little comic relief. And a few of these I wasn’t expecting! They’re always good for breaking tension – almost always choosing the worst time possible for an inappropriate joke. But, for some reason, those types are my favourites! Here are some of the characters that have given me some much needed laughter in books:

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme where I explore different topics. If you are interested in participating I would love to have you! Here is a list of my Upcoming topics in September – please remember to ping back a specific post of mine so I get a notification and I will add you to the participants list!

the-martian

MARK WATNEY from The Martian by Andy Weir
When I think of funny characters, Mark Watney is the first person that comes into mind. I guess if you’re stranded on Mars with possibly no hope of rescue, you would have to have a sense of humour or you’d be insane within the week. The lines that came out of his mouth, and the things that he did, caught me completely off guard and made me laugh so hard I cried!!! One word – boobs.

The lies of Locke Lamora

LOCKE LAMORA from The Lies Of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch
He’s not your typical comedian. He’s more of a master of smart assery, which just so happens to be my favourite type of funny. I think that it was the timing, bluntness, and total lack of self preservation to his humour that makes him stand out. If it’s the worst possible thing to say, he says it with pride while also flipping the middle finger.

Lifel1k3

LEMON FRESH from Lifel1k3 by Jay Kristoff
Now that i’ve introduced you to the king of smart-assery,  it’s time to mention the queen of sass – and that’s Lemon Fresh. She’s feisty, blunt, and passionate to the core. She’s also flirty and dirty which makes her my girl! I think she uses her humour as an armour, but then so do I. She’s bestie material.

Kiss the girl

ARIEL from Kiss The Girl (The Naughty Princess Club Series) by Tara Sivec
Even though I loved all three main characters in this series, it was Ariel that captured my heart. She is vulgar, unapologetic, dirty, crass, and seems like one of the guys. Some of the things that came out of her mouth made me laugh and simultaneously blush. She is hands down one of my favourite leading ladies ever!

HP and the philosophers stone

THE WESLEY TWINS from Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
While the others were humorous with their words, the Wesley twins are more of the jokester types. They love to catch you off guard, scare the crap out of you, and convince you to walk right into their traps. They were so good at it they opened their own joke shop!! They have to be good, right?!

This list was a little more difficult than I expected. But now that I’ve made this list it’s making me really want to go back and read these books just to highlight all the funny things they said and did! Who are the funniest characters on your bookshelves?

Until next time, happy reading!

Mark Watney truly is one of the funniest characters out there. I watched the movie before reading the book, and I thought there was no way that they could capture Damon’s humor, but sometimes the book is even funnier!
