Weekly Wrap Up – Sept 9 – 15

Better late than never, right? I usually post my wrap up’s on Sunday’s BUT – this was such a great weekend!!! Early Saturday morning my husband and I went to Toronto for the bachelor/bachelorette parties for his brother and soon to be sister in law. It was a freaking blast! The boys went axe throwing, to a Blue Jays baseball game, then out for dinner and drinks at the Craft Beer Market where they had over 160 beers on tap. Us girls went to the Toronto Intercontinental Spa where we lounged in the pool and hot tub and I got my first ever facial which was absolutely amazing!!! My skin is so soft and it included a bit of massage. My face has never felt so good! After that we went to Scaddabush for dinner and drinks – I was so full and it was delicious! After that we went to Yuk Yuk’s and there were some of the funniest comedians I’ve heard in a while. It’s a totally different thing being there in person. But the best part of the whole weekend was spending time with my new sister in law who I love to tiny itty bitty pieces. She’s just the most wonderful person and I’m so glad that these two found each other! I also got to spend the entirety of Sunday with my husband as we went to breakfast and dinner together. It was really nice to just relax and reconnect with him. I missed our relaxed conversations. If you follow me on Instagram I posted some pictures of the weekend 🙂 Wow that was a long intro – sorry about that! But seriously – this weekend was just amazing! Now, onto the books (because that’s what you’re actually here for lol)

Last year one of my goals was to reread the whole Harry Potter series – but I don’t even think I read the first one – epic fail! This year i’ve been struggling with reading slumps so I figured it was the best thing to get me back into wanting to read. I needed something familiar that I loved. And there were quite a few things that I had forgotten completely, seen now that I hadn’t seen before, or realized that I loved! I talked about those in my discussion post.

The second book I finished this week was A LITTLE HATRED by Joe Abercrombie…… this was a weird and unique reading experience! I requested it because it was the first book in a series…… but what I didn’t know was that it was the continuation of a series and I would be VERY lost throughout this book! I’m going to talk more about this in my review that will be posted on Wednesday. I really liked the book and his writing style – but I wan’t ready for this book yet.

Continuing on with the Harry Potter reread, I started HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS. I think that this was my least favourite book in the series, but I’m still really enjoying it so far! I’m listening to the audiobook for the most part and I’m loving the change of format.

The second book I started is THE GRACE YEAR by Kim Liggett and holy hell!!!!!!!! It only took me a few pages to realize that this book is going to be my new obsession!! I’m a part of the blog tour with the publisher and this one was never on my radar until I got asked to take part. I’ve never been more grateful! This book……… GAH!!!! Have you ever read a book where, the whole time you’re reading, your breathing is fast and hard and you’re so invested in it that you feel the characters emotions? That’s this book for me. I am so tense and consumed by this book! I’m even going to go out on a limb and say that this will be in the top 3 reads of 2019…… it’s THAT good!

This week was all about the visuals – Top 5 Covers of 2019! I’m not the type to judge a book by its cover but all the same, there were some amazing covers on your lists!!! This week we will be bringing in the humour with the Top 5 Funniest Characters! I love me some comic relief!

I’m lucky to say this on a daily basis for the last 21 years we’ve been together (but only married for 11 of those years) – he is my everything. I love him so much and I love just being with him. He’s my person. In every aspect in life. I consider myself to be one of the luckiest people in the world to have him by my side. But this weekend he spoiled me! On our way home from Toronto we stopped at Chapters and he bought me Starbucks AND a book!!! Two of my favourite things! Coffee and a book…… that’s literally all I need! Most girls want diamonds, jewelry, or shoes…… not me!

thanks dave

This week was so busy but I’m not complaining! Partying in Toronto, good friends and family, lots of laughs, time with my husband, coffee, and books? There’s nothing better! I hope you all had a fantastic week!!

Until next time, happy reading!
