Weekly Wrap Up – Aug 26 – Sept 1

If you want to see an updated picture of me, just look in the dictionary under the word “exhausted”. This was the final week of summer vacation for my kids and it was a busy one! The little went on a camping trip with family friends while I registered the oldest for high school…… seriously! It feels like I just graduated high school myself! There was also eye appointments, a surgeon appointment for my husband (where they removed a cyst from his back and I watched the whole process in disgusted fascination), measurements for dress alterations for a wedding, and I started a new adventure for myself – partnering with a local restaurant baking treats for fresh and frozen sale……. Like I have time for that! But – the extra cash is needed so I’ll do what I need to do. Luckily I can listen to audiobooks while I work!

BOOKS I FINISHED THIS WEEK:

Kingdom of souls

If it weren’t for the HCC Frenzy event that I attended last Sunday, I’m not sure that this book would have ended up on my radar – and I’m so glad that it did!!! KINGDOM OF SOULS by Rena Barron is an outstanding debut! It reminded me a lot of Children of Blood and Bone. Not plot wise necessarily, but in atmosphere, magic, setting, and writing style. I had some difficulty with a few plot holes that weren’t filled, which lead to some questions on my behalf, but it was still a really great read!!! Review will be coming this week 🙂

BOOKS I’M CURRENTLY READING:

A little hatred

Yes, I’m a huge fantasy lover (if you couldn’t tell), and yet – I haven’t read a book by Joe Abercrombie yet! GASP! I’ve heard so much about this author but his books kept falling off my radar. When this book showed up on a newsletter from Hatchette Canada I HAD to request it! I can’t wait to dive in and see what it’s all about!

OTHER BOOKISH NEWS:

TOP 5 TUESDAY

This weeks topic is always a fun one – Top 5 books I don’t talk about enough. It’s so nice to remise on books that we love but for some reason don’t mention as much as we should. And there were some really amazing books on your lists! A lot of them I hadn’t read or heard of before – so I ended up with a bunch of new titles to look into!! This weeks topic is Top 5 series I need to finish…… uhhhhh there’s a lot….. maybe i’ll have to make it a top 10? lol

HAULS, WRAP UP’S AND TBR’S

It’s the end of the month and you know what that means – hauls, wrap up’s and TBR’s. In the month of August I finished 5 books (you can see those HERE) and I’m pretty happy with that. I wish it could have been more but August was a crazy month! And since I don’t have a TBR for the month of September, I combined my haul and TBR _________.

This was a really fantastic summer with my kids! We were always doing something fun and had a lot of late nights watching movies, playing games and laughing. Even though the summer was fun, I really can’t wait for the consistency of the schedule that the school year brings! It also means my favourite season is coming – FALL!!! Hope you had a fantastic week!

Until next time, happy reading!

  5. If nothing else, A Little Hatred coming out has motivated me to try and get to Abercrombie’s earlier works! KINGDOM OF SOULS is on my TBR for the month, might be my next read after I finish JADE WAR.
