August Book Haul & Sept TBR

I’m not sure that anyone noticed, but there was no TBR for the month of July……. because I didn’t haul a single book! Shocking I know! Thankfully though, August seemed to make up for lost time! Here are the books that I got in the month of August:

BOOKS I BOUGHT:

I picked up two books at Chapters this month, and one of them i’ve already read! THE KINGDOM by Jess Rothenberg was a solid read and completely sold me on the idea of it taking place in an amusement park! Think Disney but dark, creepy, icky, and with robots lol. The second book that I bought is RECORD OF A SPACEBORN FEW by Becky Chambers. This is book 3 in the Wayfarers series and I’m a little hesitant about it actually. I LOVED book 1, and book 2 was a total flop for me. I hope that this one is more like the first book. But the cover though… LOVE it!

ARC’S I GOT THIS MONTH:

This month I got more than normal as I went to a book event at Harper Collins. It’s also time for fall releases so there have been a little more than normal. Of these I’ve already read three of them and LOVED them all – it’s a GREAT start!

The first 3 came from Raincoast Books Canada. DARKDAWN by Jay Kristoff is the ARC that I never thought possible. I honestly cried like a baby when I held it in my hands – no joke! I was so excited yet worried for my soul as I knew he would destroy it…… which he absolutely DID! This book (and series) is beyond incredible and I can’t love it any more! Review is coming tomorrow 🙂 THE GIRL THE SEA GAVE BACK by Adrienne Young is another book that I’ve already read. Though this didn’t quite reach the greatness that the first book in this series did, I still really enjoyed it and her writing style is amazing. Review for this one is coming Wednesday. Lastly is NINTH HOUSE by Leigh Bardugo, which I somehow was able to trade with someone at the Frenzy event last weekend. She said she ended  up with two and didn’t need it….. THANK YOU!!! I didn’t even bother requesting this one because I knew my chances would be slim. I read her books like they were adults anyways – none of her characters seemed like teenagers to me. So I can’t wait to see what she does with some more adult material!

A little hatred

The next book I got this month was from Hachette Book Group Canada – and this is one that I’m really excited for! Being the fantasy lover that I am, I’m surprised that I still haven’t picked up a book by this author. He’s been talked so highly for so long and I still haven’t picked one up. It’s time. So A LITTLE HATRED by Joe Abercrombie is one that I can’t wait to get to! And I love how dark this cover is!!!

The last 2 books that I hauled this month are the ones that I got while at the HCC Frenzy event last weekend. The first one is KINGDOM OF SOULS by Rena Barron, which I’m going to be finishing today hopefully. I’m really liking it so far!!! I love the magic and the world most. Lastly is A TREASON OF THORNS by Laura E. Weymouth, and that cover! So beautiful! The story sounds dark and beautiful too. Reminds me a little like Wild Beauty by Anna Marie McLemore. I can’t wait to get into this one!

The month of September is going to be a crazy month as we settle into the kids being back in school and preparing for my brother in law’s wedding. So the plan is to go with the flow. Basically my TBR will be all the books from this list that I haven’t read yet lol. What was your favourite book you hauled this month? Obviously, my answer is Darkdawn lol!

Until next time, happy reading!

I bought so many books this past month it’s not that funny. 😅 And you have reminded me once again of all the amazing releases coming out in September that I have no idea how I’m going to survive another book buying ban.

  8. Excellent Haul! I know everyone’s excited for A Little Hatred and Darkdawn which is just reminding me I should, you know, read the first books in those respective series/worlds. 🙃 Record of a Spaceborn few is on my TBR for Sci-Fi Month in November, and I’m hoping to get to Kingdom of Souls in the next few weeks!

    1. I just finished Kingdom of Souls and it was great! Not perfect, but I read it really quick!
Now I’m worried – A Little Hatred is the first book in a series……. was I supposed to read something else before that one?
