August 2019 Wrap Up!

The end of August is here – which means that it’s also the end of summer and time for my kids to go back to school! My oldest is in high school this year…….. that’s a hard pill to swallow! I’m excited for her, yet it means i’m getting old lol. August is a month that’s so filled with the end of summer events that I usually don’t get to read a whole lot. I’m pleased to say that I actually finished 5 books this month! I would have been happy with 3, so to finish 5 is a bonus! Two of them were a reread so I won’t be posting a review for those. And two are ARC’s that I haven’t actually posted the review for them yet….. I feel like a giant slacker but I wanted to wait until it was closer to the publication date. Regardless of the lack of reviews, here are the books I read in August:

The first two books that I read this month were Nevernight and Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff. These were rereads in preparation for book three. Even though I’ve already read both twice, and knew what happened, I’m still glad that I reread them before book 3…… it made it easier to make all the connections that happen in Darkdawn!!

Darkdawn

DARKDAWN by Jay Kristoff <—– review to come – 5 stars

And of course, after finishing books 1 and 2 in the series, I immediately jumped into the final book! Jay Kristoff promised that this book would be hell – and he was right! My emotions were along for the ride and there were a few times I couldn’t handle it! Something happens very early on in the book that made me gasp out loud while reading next to my husband. He was so convinced that there was something wrong he wouldn’t leave me alone! He kept asking if I was ok! The answer is NO! I’m not ok! This book connected and wrapped up the series as a whole so freaking well! My review for this will be posted Monday so stay tuned!

The Kingdom

THE KINGDOM by Jess Rothenberg <—– click for full review – 3.5 stars

Finally a book that I read this month that I also posted a review lol. As soon as I heard that this was like a dark and twisted Disney setting – I was all in! And this book gave everything it promised. It was a really good story with a truly amazing setting! And the truth behind this amusement park was far darker than expected. I did have some small issues with it but it was a really enjoyable read!

The girl the sea gave back

THE GIRL THE SEA GAVE BACK by Adrienne Young <—– review to come 3.75 stars

And lastly I finished off the much anticipated sequel to Sky In The Deep. Her books are a slow burning fantasy that mixes clans, characters, fantasy, war, and so much more, all with lyrical and beautiful writing. They’re not plot heavy, or action packed, but she can carry a story with her characters and their emotions. I really enjoyed this! Maybe not quite as much as the first book, but her writing is just so beautiful! I’ll fill you in more when my review is posted next week.

That was my month! Not bad, but not great in terms of the amount of books read, but really great considering what the books I read were! Keep an eye out for the two remaining reviews from this month – coming next week 🙂 Hope you had a fantastic reading month!

Until next time, happy reading!

I recently bought The Kingdom and Sky in the Deep at the Barnes and Noble blowout. And I have no idea when I will get around to reading Nevernight.

What a great selection of books this month 😀 I still haven’t read the Nevernight Chronicles… I don’t even know how it’s taken so long for me to get around to them (my TBR is like a bottomless pit). I ADORE Jay Kristoff so there’s no excuse 😛 Although, on the plus side at least I can read them without having to wait for a sequel. I’m so glad that the last one met your expectations! It’s not often a great series can keep up its momentum until the end.

    1. Honestly, it’s a good thing that you’re waiting so you can read them all at once!! He’s an ass when it comes to cliffhangers. After Godsgrave I was literally shaking because of the last page!
I don’t know a single person who doesn’t have a bottomless pit of a TBR. If they don’t, I want to know their secret!

Glad you enjoyed all the books, I think I read and completed 8 books, and DNF’d 2 books. Also started at least 3 books too including The Kingdom

  9. I’m about halfway through my GG reread and then onto Darkdawn. I am terrified after your smol review above. WHAT HAPPENS?! (but also, don’t tell me…!!) You’re also making me very glad that I stuck with the reread before diving in!!

    1. You’ll be VERY glad you did a reread! I loved Darkdawn even more because of my reread. It was easier to tie everything together. It’s one of those books that I can’t say a single thing without spoiling something. I was in a constant state of crying for the last 100 pages – lip trembling and all!
