Top 5 Books I Don’t Talk About Enough!

When we did the alphabet series a little while ago, it made me realize that there are SO MANY books on my shelf that i’ve read and loved but for some reason don’t mention them often! It’s so easy to get caught up in talking about your favourites, or even the books that are hyped. Here’s your chance to mention the ones that you loved but don’t talk about enough! Or maybe even mention some that are beloved and you want everyone to read them lol. Here are mine:

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme where I explore different topics. If you are interested in participating I would love to have you! Here is a list of my Upcoming topics in September – please remember to ping back a specific post of mine so I get a notification and I will add you to the participants list!

Hounded

The first book I want to mention is Hounded by Kevin Hearne. This is the first book in a fantasy series that I’m absolutely head over heels for! The main character is a druid who was once friends with Jesus….. that’s how old he is. He doesn’t give a shit about anything anymore really and it makes for an interesting read! He’s made many friends over the years but his list of enemies is longer…….. he especially HATES Thor….. the feud is hilarious people! He also has the best dog ever! He reminds me a lot of Scooby Doo but way funnier. He has an obsession with poodles and sausages, and he’s the comedic relief in the chaos of their lives. I really need to continue this series!!!

The hearts invisible furies

Next is a book that went straight to my soul. The Heart’s Invisible Furies by John Boyne is a super chunky book but I read it in 24 hours. I couldn’t stop reading! The characters are some of the best developed characters I have ever read and I felt literally every emotion possible while reading. There isn’t a plot really. It’s about a man and his life, from start to finish. But it was so interesting and impactful!! Honestly one of the best books i’ve ever read!

The loneliest girl in the universe

The third book is a science fiction that completely caught me off guard! I went into The Loneliest Girl in the Universe by Lauren James expecting a book about a secluded girl who finally meets another person and falls in love because he’s the first human she’s contacted in years and she connects with him because she’s lonely. Well, that kind of happened…… but the reality and twist to this story had my head spinning! I also read this book in the span of 24 hours (is this a trend?) and I’m so glad I did! Learning how secluded she really was and how little she actually knew about the world was so well done! But the plot twist though….. gah so good!

Artemis

I know, I know. There are a lot of you out there that didn’t like Artemis by Andy Weir. Unpopular opinion incoming – I LOVED this!!! I loved everything about it! The world building, the plot, the characters….. I thought it was outstanding! The main character is a little hard to swallow. She’s bold, crude, rude, dirty, overly confident, foul mouthed……. basically me in real life lol.

You bring the distant near

Last but not least, we have You Bring The Distant Near by Mitali Perkins. This is a book that I wish I could make EVERYONE read! This is a multi-generational story following a family as they move to America. They struggle to find a balance between their Indian culture and being American. Each generation faces different struggles throughout their lives and it’s both sad and beautiful. The characters were SO well written it’s ridiculous! Their character arc and growth is what stands out most in this book. There’s a character in particular who I wanted to slap across the face a few times but then learning why she did what she did, and then make the steps to change and learn….. I mean, ugly cry! I really want to reread this now!!!

This list was surprisingly easy to make! I know that I’ve mentioned all of these books in the past, but nowhere near as often as I wish I could. These 5 books were all fantastic and I don’t see enough people talking about them! A few are older, and maybe there was a lot of hype surrounding them when they were first released. But if you haven’t read them yet, and your reading tastes are close to mine, then these are a must!!

Until next time, happy reading!

    1. Am I’m late to replying so – we’re even 😂 that book broke me. It’s so intimidating because of its size but it’s so worth it and reads quick. You are so involved in his life that you don’t notice how many pages you’ve read. I hope you love it when you get to it!
