First Impression Friday #32

I’m writing this at the last minute because….. It’s Friday? How did this week go by so fast! I know that things can get busy but I feel like I missed a couple days in there somewhere lol. The last first impressions post, I only had two books to talk about. But, since then, I finished off the Off The Grid Readathon AND the Reading Rush Readathon….. so I’ve got a lot to talk about today! Let’s dive in!

MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS – I had two thoughts upon reading the first chapter: THOUGHT ONE – Oh thank god her writing style is the same as in the Wayward Children series! I LOVE her writing style! It makes my heart sing and grow flower and stuff…. THOUGHT TWO – What the living hell am I reading??? I had no clue what was happening. It was confusing, and weird, but I liked it. I had faith in her writing being able to bring it all together and explain things, but I was still terrified that it would remain confusing. I guessed that I would rate this 4 stars…..

HOW I RATED IT – It was 4 stars! Yes, it was terribly confusing in the beginning and you really have to spend the time to get further into it before you fall in love. I know that some people might give up on it because it’s quite difficult (at least for me) to latch onto. It’s worth it folks! I promise!!! Click HERE for the full review.

Morning Star

MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS – I didn’t really like book 2, ok? I know that some of you think that book 2 is the best in the series, but for me, it lacked everything I wanted. But this one….. I knew immediately that this was going to be IT for me! This had everything I felt was lacking in the second book… yes, I realized it from the first chapter! Book 2 was a lot of him being a gold and forgetting he was a red. And right from the start in this book, Darrow was a beat down red with the power and know how of a Gold. I KNEW that this was going to be great! I guessed that I would rate this 5 stars…..

HOW I RATED IT – Not just 5 stars…… 5 million stars!!! This book was freaking amazing! Incredible! Outstanding! Perfection!!! I could go on and on….. Just like I thought would happen, this book had everything that I felt was missing from book 2. I’ll go more into detail in my review that will be posted tomorrow 🙂

Swipe right for murder

MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS – Meh. I didn’t think that this was the strongest beginning. There was a character going through some crazy stuff and trying to find a connection with someone – anyone. I felt that he was floundering and I didn’t really enjoy his perspective. And the writing didn’t flow all that well in the beginning. I was nervous that this wouldn’t be the fast paced gripping read I hoped for. I guessed that I would rate this 3 stars…..

HOW I RATED IT – Thank goodness I was wrong! No, the beginning wasn’t strong at all BUT it was necessary. The things that I didn’t enjoy so much in the beginning actually has a purpose to the story as a whole. And the author found a rhythm after a few chapters and the writing became smoother. The pace also picked up HUGE and never really relented! This book had so many twists and turns that I didn’t expect at all! I really liked this one! It was the perfect summer time read!!! Review to come soon 🙂

The last namsara

MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS – This is one of the best first chapters i’ve ever read! We meet a strong female as she’s killing a dragon….. yes, that’s how this begins! But we are also introduced to the fact that she’s royalty and is set to marry a complete idiot who may or may not be violent. We learn that she is feared by many. We learn that no one touches her. We learn that her mother was insane because she sang songs to call dragons….. any book that can effortlessly set up a story like THAT in the first chapter without being info-dumpy and only makes me want to know more and ASAP….. it’s got to be good! I guessed that I would rate this 5 stars……

HOW I RATED IT – Of course it was 5 stars! And I think I may have found a new female author to add to the favourites list! Her writing style was absolutely captivating! Her words swallowed me whole and drew me into the world and plot completely. I absolutely adored the atmosphere, characters, world….. everything! Writing this review will be hard because I’m having trouble forming complete thoughts! But I do hope to review it soon.

For the most part, the beginnings of these books were so strong! They made me want to know more and read as quick as I could to get to the prize at the end! Especially The Last Namsara……. that first chapter was just incredible!!! If you haven’t read it yet, try that chapter…… and see how quickly you finish it lol!

Until next time, happy reading!

I loved the last Namsara. I read it when it first came out. My problem is that I wanted the second book soooo bad that but had to wait a whole year to get it that now I just haven’t returned to that world. I need to pick up The Caged Queen!
