Weekly (& Off The Grid) Wrap Up – July 8 – 15

IT WAS READATHON WEEKENED!!! And, guess what? I found some reading mojo and was actually really productive for the readathon! I was terrified at the timing of this. My husband was just coming off of IV antibiotics and every day was filled with doctors, medications, play dates and errands. But I’m pleased to say that I got some books read….. yes that’s plural!!! I finished 2 books and got 3/4 of the way through another – for a total of over 800 pages!!!!! Let’s get into the wrap up:

I stayed up late the first day of the readathon and read the last 100 pages of Jade City by Fonda Lee. I ended up really loving it! It was so unique and this book has so many positive things going for it! There were also a few negatives though – ones that I struggled to see past. But, all in all, this was a really amazing fantasy! The second book I read (which I started and finished on the Friday of the readathon, was The Chalk Man by C.J. Tudor. I don’t know what’s happened to me, but mystery novels are sounding more and more interesting! This isn’t a new favourite, but I really enjoyed it! Reviews for both of these are coming this week.

I was really hoping to finish off Middlegame by Seanan McGuire during the readathon, but I got more than halfway and I’m really happy with that! This book is so weird….. interesting, but unlike anything i’ve ever read. I can’t wait to finish it and see what I think when it all makes sense lol! One thing is safe to say – Seanan McGuire is a brilliant writer!!!! The next thing that I’ll be picking up (hopefully) is Swipe Right for Murder by Derek Milman. I read his debut novel (Scream All Night) last year and really liked his writing. This one is a little different than that and it seems like it’s packed full of action, twists, and turns – I can’t wait!!! It doesn’t publish until August though, so I might pick up something else in-between.

And the alphabet titles month continues! This weeks letters were F-G-H-I-J. I’m LOVING the chance to talk about all of these books! It’s so easy to be blinded by your all time favourites and talk about them constantly. But there are always books that you love and they don’t get mentioned enough. This week is the letters K-L-M-N-O 🙂

On August 25th, I will be travelling to Toronto to attend the fall preview event! I went to the spring one and has SO MUCH FUN! BUT…. I didn’t socialize with almost anyone. I’m a terrible introvert (as I’m sure you understand) and I really regretted that I didn’t talk to a lot of the people there. Especially after I got home and realized that I knew so many of you!! I kept seeing posts popping up from people that were there and I was heartbroken that I didn’t say hi! SO – if you’re going – PLEASE let me know! I will keep an eye out for you and even make a list of people that I need to seek out. I chose the 3:00 time slot

As busy as this week was, it was a week I really needed. Lots of family time and finding the motivation to read. I have a lot of work to catch up on this week so I hope that I can find an audiobook to keep me company 🙂 I hope your week was amazing!!

Until next time, happy reading!

    1. I was the same way for the longest time. Every time I tried to participate in a Readathon it would fail miserably. But then one time it just worked….. don’t know what happened. Keep trying! And don’t knock yourself down if you “fail”. Life happens!!

You did a lot of reading!
I feel the same as you about the Fall preview. When I recognised people from the social media, I hesitated to approach. It makes sense, though, that as readers we are introverts and reserved.
I will be there for the 3pm slot and I would love to say hi. I will look out for you.
