The Readathon Starts Tonight! TBR

That’s right bookworms, the summer edition of the Off The Grid Readathon begins in a few short hours!!! I’m only a little bit excited lol. As the clock strikes midnight tonight, the readathon begins, and I have big plans! I need to finish the book i’m currently reading and then I hope to read 2 more…… I pretty much know that’s not going to happen but I can aim high!

If you haven’t heard of the Off The Grid Readathon before, I have a few different ways for you to get the details:

  • Click HERE for the info dumping announcement post lol
  • Click HERE for the remaining readathon dates in 2019
  • And, click HERE for Justine’s YouTube announcement and TBR that sums everything up perfectly!

But here’s the quick low down – READ! lol! This isn’t meant to be a 72 hour readathon where you ignore all of your other responsibilities. This is practice in reading when you should be reading. Instead of sitting down for an hour to read, and ending up spending 3/4 of that on your phone or watching TV. The whole point is to go “Off The Grid” while you’re reading and NOT GET DISTRACTED!!!!

Now that the hosting duties are out of the way, it’s time to talk about what my plans are for the weekend 🙂 Like I mentioned, I have BIG plans that probably won’t be completed – but, go big or go home!!!

Jade city

The first thing I’ll be doing is finishing JADE CITY by Fonda Lee. This book is dense as F#@* (sorry for the language but, damn!) and it’s taking me forever to read. I’m enjoying every minute of it, but it’s a book you need to swim in the details and not rush it. I have less than 100 pages left!!!

Nope – I don’t plan on reading both of these – it’s going to be one or the other. Because Jade City has been such an in depth read, I need a bit of a break. Once I finish Jade City I’ll decide if I want to read a romance or a mystery. Romance will be A DUKE BY DEFAULT by Alyssa Cole, which is the sequel to A Princess in Theory. I really enjoyed the first book and this would be a nice quick read that has far less magic, death, and killing lol. But then, I might actually be in the mood for a mystery! If so, I plan on picking up THE CHALK MAN by C.J. Tudor. I’ve heard great things about this one and apparently 2019 is the year I read mysteries, so….. decisions, decisions!

And then…… I’ll finally be picking up MIDDLEGAME by Seanan McGuire!!!! There are so many people who have read this and immediately freaked out and put it on their ALL TIME FAVOURITES list…. I need to know why!!! And then, the rest of you who haven’t read it, have it on your TBR and want me to read it so I can tell you if you need to read it….. LOL!!! Soon bookworms, soon.

Are you free this weekend?? (totally not a pick up line……) If you have some time, and want to practice reading without distractions, JOIN US!!!! I’ll obviously be gone from the blog until Monday, but you can catch my quick updates on Twitter @OffTheGridReads

Until next time, happy reading!

  1. Nice post. I like the concept of an off the grid readathon. I usually don’t have an issue putting tech aside and concentrating on reading, but it could be a fun exercise for sure!

Also, nice recommendations. I put MiddleGame on my TBR, as a lot of Seanan McGuire’s stuff is quickly adding onto my list lately. Can’t wait!

I work on Friday but it’s usually pretty quiet in the library. I might be able to squeeze in reading throughout the day. Not sure about the rest of the weekend though…

Also, my lack of a love life makes me interested in reading more romance novels. I’ve seen the Princess in Theory books EVERYWHERE. Do you recommend?

    1. I’ve only read the first one but yes! It was a really good balance of sweet and spicy and had a really good storyline. It was a little convenient, but it was still good!

I just found out about this through this post and I AM IN I AM IN! I literally need to read 3 hours a day to finish the book I am currently reading in the time frame I want. I LOVED Jade City but agree that it is dense. My current read is actually Jade War. Loving it but it’s taking me an hour to read just 30 pages. Anyways, yes, I’m excited that this came at the perfect time! Good luck with your TBR!

    1. Finally someone else who struggled to read Fonda Lee! I read Jade City for the Readathon and, like you said, it takes an hour just to read a few pages!! Hope you enjoyed it

  8. Enjoy Jade City! I’ll be working on THE POPPY WAR as my main goal, and hope to at least start one other book!
