June 2019 Book Haul!

I’m so proud of myself this month….. I used restraint! Ok, I’m totally lying…. i’m super broke and couldn’t afford to buy many books this month….. but i’m going with the restraint story because it makes me look better lol! I only hauled 4 books this month. One was a preorder, one was an ARC, one was a promotional short story, and the other was an ebook on sale. So this haul will be a short one ๐Ÿ™‚

Dev1at3

The first book I’ll talk about is DEV1AT3 by Jay Kristoff. I’ve actually already read it ๐Ÿ™‚ The review will be posted tomorrow so stay tuned! Spoiler alert – I liked it a lot lol

Memento

The next “book” is the short story I was talking about. If you preordered Aurora Rising, you could enter to have a short story that’s related to the Illuminae Files series sent out. It didn’t apply to Canadians (I’m really starting to think that Jay Kristoff doesn’t like Canadians but that’s ok….. I’ll still love you anyways) so I had this sent to a friend who was lovely enough to ship it over to me. Reading this made me want more of this world and the characters. I want more Aidan!

Swipe right for murder

Swipe Right for Murder by Derek Milman is the ARC that I got this month – and I’m SOOOO excited for it! I loved his debut novel and this one sounds so good! On the run from the FBI, targeted by a murderous cult, labeled a cyber-terrorist by the media, Irritated texts from his best friend, eye contact with a nice-looking guy on the train, and waking up next to a dead guy…… see?! This sounds amazing, right?!

Sea of rust

And, lastly, we have Sea of Rust by C. Robert Cargill. This is a book that my cousin Joe at J.W. Martin Storeys of Stories has mentioned numerous times. Every time he talked about it I could visualize this cover and I would get stars in my eyes. The book sounds good, but this cover was the selling point for me. I hope that I can get to this soon ๐Ÿ™‚

Flower divider

Those are the books I hauled this month. If we were talking unhauls though…. this list would have been about 30 books long! I went through my shelves and got rid of ones that I didn’t enjoy or ones that I just never planned on reading. The library seemed very happy to put them on their shelves!

What was your favourite book purchase this month?

Until next time, happy reading!

  2. I got memento when I pre-ordered a signed copy via Goodchoice Reading (I think?) and it sent out internationally! It was a lot more obviously, but so worth it. I loved Memento. I can’t believe how quickly I became invested in the characters and it reminded me of my love-hate-hate relationship with AIDAN ๐Ÿ˜‚

  3. Nice haul! I didn’t purchase a ton in June, but did get quite a few arcs that I’m super excited to read. The Lady Rogue, The Merciful Crow (already read), and Girls of Storm and Shadow are at the top.

  6. Hahaha, Memento didn’t come to Aussies either, and I was living in the same city as Jay and Amie so don’t feel too bad Shanah!! I got mine sent to a friend in the US and she sent it on. But yeah, we miss out on basically everything!! ๐Ÿ˜‚

    1. Seriously…… but theyโ€™re from Oz! How does their own country miss out?? ๐Ÿ˜‚

      1. Oh, the internet was mad, trust me. Amie and Jay copped a lot of anger about it. Amie was crying (she was like 8.5 months pregnant at that stage) and people were saying that they’d forgotten where they came from. It was horrific. But it their publisher’s decision, and they had a US publisher for Illuminae and AR, so there wasn’t anything they could do about it.

        1. Awe poor Amie!!!!! It would be so hard to have the publishers make the decisions, knowing there are fans out there that they want to include. Itโ€™s totally not their fault!!
