July 2019 TBR!

Oh July….. my reading enemy lol!! If there’s ever a month that I struggle to read – this is the one! As much as I love reading, and as much as reading saves my sanity, July usually doesn’t work. I’m always spending as much time as possible with my family out by the pool, BBQ get togethers, and going on adventures. This time around though, i’ve got a few things going for me. First – i’m highly motivated to read!! Motivation has been a struggle over the last few weeks but I feel like my mojo is coming back! And then there’s the Off The Grid Readathon, hosted by myself and Justine from I Should Read That, which is taking place on July 12-14. These things together, I have high hopes for a successful month! Here are the books that I really want to get to in the month of July:

After talking about fantasy in last weeks Top 5 Tuesday post, i’ve been really needed to break my fantasy slump! What better way than to get to two books that I’ve heard nothing but spectacular things about! First is MIDDLEGAME by Seanan McGuire. This was on my TBR for last month but I never got to it. But everyone that I’ve talked to about it so far has added it to their all time favourites list…. I need to know why!! Next is JADE CITY by Fonda Lee. Back in December, when I mentioned that I was looking for a good new fantasy, this was the book that was mentioned more than any other!

The next two that I want to read this month aren’t yet released. THE MERCIFUL CROW by Margaret Owen has been getting quite a bit of buzz lately! It also has one of the most stunning covers I’ve seen so far this year! I requested the ARC, and still don’t know if I’m going to get it; regardless, I’ll be ordering this and getting to it towards the end of the month! The next one is an ARC that I have in my possession already and that’s SWIPE RIGHT FOR MURDER by Derek Milman. I read his debut last year, Scream All Night, and really enjoyed his writing style, and this one sounds so interesting! I can’t wait to get to it!!

It’s not really summer until you’ve read a mystery/thriller! And THE CHALK MAN by C.J. Tudor will fit that bill perfectly! I was a little afraid of it in the beginning because it seemed too hyped up but, according to a few people with reading tastes similar to my own, the hype is for good reason. And lastly, for a little light and steamy reading, I hope to get to A DUKE BY DEFAULT by Alyssa Cole. This is the sequel to A Princess In Theory that I read in June. This one would be perfect to read by the pool!!

Those are the 6 books that I really hope to get to this month. Like I said, July is typically my enemy and I don’t get a whole lot of reading time, so I doubt I’ll get to them all. Fingers crossed!

What do you hope to read in the month of July?

Until next time, happy reading!

A Duke by Default was really really good. Did you read the first in the series? It’s okay as a standalone, but some scenes will make more sense if you have the first one as context
