June was one of those months that you looked forward to for a long time because there were so many fun things happening! But then, you blinked, it was over, and you’re so exhausted you need a vacation! LOL! Because things were so busy I didn’t think I would get the chance to read at all. I’m more surprised than anyone when I say – I finished 7 books this month! Or 8, if you include the Illimunae Files short story…… I feel a little like Super Woman right now lol. Here’s a wrap up of all the books read in June:
FINALE by Stephanie Garber <—– click for full review – 3 stars
Sadly, this finale (ha! see what I did there?!) didn’t live up to my expectations. I really enjoyed the first two books but this one didn’t quite hit the mark. I missed the game, the mystery, the blurred lines between the game and reality, and so much more. This just seemed like a massive love triangle with magic. I still enjoyed it but, compared to books 1 and 2, this one wasn’t what I hoped it would be.
WHEN THE GROUND IS HARD by Malla Nunn <—– click for full review – 4 stars
I was pleasantly surprised with this one! There was a great female friendship, girls learning who they are and what they want out of life, and the harsh realities of how things are for whites vs. blacks and girls vs. boys in Swaziland. The ending though…. perfection! Summed up all of the events throughout the book in one chapter and gave so much hope. I really enjoyed this one!!!
A PRINCESS IN THEORY by Alyssa Cole <—– click for full review – 4 stars
This was such an adorable read! A headstrong woman who worked her ass off to get to where she is. A Prince who had an entire country on his shoulders while trying to find his long lost promised bride. I really enjoyed the characters and their desire to protect those they cared for while also protecting themselves. I can’t wait to continue this series!
DEAR WIFE by Kimberly Belle <—– click for full review – 4 stars
Another pleasant surprise!! I don’t normally go for this genre but I’ve been wanting to branch out. This was a really good choice! We have a missing woman, a woman on the run from an abusive husband, the husband of the missing woman, and a detective trying to piece it all together. Even though the ending was a bit rushed and sudden, I really enjoyed this!!
WISH YOU WERE MINE by Tara Sivec – review to come – 3 stars
Tara Sivec is the author of my all time favourite romance series (the naughty princess club) and I was really excited to read something aside from that series. I still enjoyed the writing, but this was just a meh story – I’ll get into it more in my full review. It was a great story, don’t get me wrong, but there was just a spark missing somehow.
LIFEL1K3 and DEV1AT3 by Jay Kristoff – review to come – 5 and 4 stars
Lifel1k3 was a reread so I won’t be doing a full review for that (click HERE for my original review from May of 2018). But a review will be coming shortly for Dev1at3. This one’s main focus was on Lemon Fresh, one of my all time favourite characters! I really enjoyed it! Some of the lines made me totally laugh my ass of! But I really missed Eve in this one. I was hoping that this would be a dual perspective between Eve and Lemon, but we didn’t really see Eve at all. More detailed thoughts will be coming in my full review.
Those are all the books I read in June 🙂 A LOT of 4 star reads, a couple 3 stars, but no new all time favourites. I hope your June was a great reading month! What was your favourite read of the month?
