Top 5 Fantasy!

Fantasy……. Oh how I love thee!! There are just so many possibilities! Fantasies always find a way to completely remove you from your current time and place and put you somewhere you could only imagine. You go from sitting on your couch to riding unicorns, while casting spells and taking on an army of elves….. ok, seems outlandish, I know. But it’s fantasy….. anything can happen! This topic was covered in 2018 (find my top 10 fantasy list HERE) so this is a list that covers some of my more recent fantasy reads.

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme where I explore different topics. If you are interested in participating I would love to have you! Here is a list of my Upcoming Topics in July – please remember to ping back a specific post of mine so I get a notification and I will add you to the participants list!

Mistborn

For so many years i’ve heard the hype about Mistborn……. the hype is read folks! Read this! Just read it! The magic system will forever go down as one of the most unique i’ve ever read. Putting metals into your body that awakens power and ability…. It’s just so good! Click HERE for my full review.

Red rising

I’ve still yet to read the third book in this series, but DAMN! This is a great one! A group of people (The Reds) are living on Mars, mining materials for the future colonization of Mars. Little do they know, Mars is already a fully populated planet and they’re the lowest class. Things change when a revolt is in the air and leads to one of the most brutal and interesting spy plans I’ve ever read! The second book was just as brilliant! Click HERE for my full review.

The poppy war

If you’re looking for a fast paced book with a bad ass (and totally fearless) female, lots of political intrigue, and a school setting where the students are taught to maim and kill…. Here you go! This is quite hefty, but you’ll fly through it. The school setting was so well written and so was the main character! She’s terrifying actually! Click HERE for my full review.

The lies of Locke Lamora

This book was intense as hell but still found a way to be 100% humour and sarcasm. Every time the characters found themselves in life threatening situations (which was quite often!), there would be something thrown in there that would make you laugh so hard – it was a tension breaker and some comic relief as well. Another thing about this book – it was brilliant! The situations and plot were just so well thought out! You thought the characters were running on Plan A, but they had already moved on to Plan M without your knowledge. Click HERE for my full review.

The bear and the nightengale

If you’re looking for a series that oozes atmosphere – this is it! The climate throughout may be cold, but there’s something so warm and inviting about it. My absolute favourite thing about this series is the magical creatures and a girl who’s considered to want all the wrong things, finding her place in the world.  Click HERE for my full review

There they are! My most recent fantasy favourites. I’ve been in a bit of a fantasy slump lately though. Maybe seeing everyones lists will get me back into it!

Note to participants – I will try my best to update the list as often as possible today but there may be a delay. My daughter is graduating grade 8 today!! It’s a day full of appointments and celebrations. Because of that, I know I won’t have time to comment – that doesn’t mean I love your lists any less!

Until next time, happy reading!

The Bear and The Nightingale is on my list too! Red Rising should really be on mine too but I wanted to separate sci-fi and fantasy :D.

    1. Red Rising was a really tough one to add. It’s a good mix between fantasy and sci-fi – it’s hard for me to choose a category that it fits in lol

I haven’t read any of the books you’ve mentioned, Shanah. I must try better. lol! My youngest is at the same stage, she’s sitting lots of end of year exams this week (we don’t break up for the summer hols here in the UK until the end of July). I hope your daughter enjoys her graduation. x

    1. Strangely enough, they didn’t have any exams….. I remember being so bogged down with exams at her age!
So if school is in through July, when do they start the next school year?

I really need to read Mistborn and The Poppy War! I’ve been hearing amazing things about them, but haven’t got the time to pick them up!
And I absolutely adored The Bear and the Nightingale! Cannot wait to read the sequel💕.

    1. The sequel to the Bear and the Nightingale was a bit disappointing. The atmosphere was a little different. It was still GOOD! But not as amazing as books 1 and 3. 3 is my favourite! Enjoy!!

    1. Don’t worry. I had both of them on my shelves for over a year and kept saying I would read them soon. I was so intimidated by them! But, now that I’ve read them, I wish I would have read them sooner. They’re not as intimidating as they may seem, and so well worth the read!
