Top 10 All Time Favourites!!

I’ve been holding off on this topic for years. No joke! I feel like making a list of your all time favourites is like choosing which one of your children is your favourite lol. I managed to choose 10 books…… but the amount of guilt I feel for not including some books is killing me! I think that I may need to follow this topic up with some genre specific topics so that I can include some of the ones I had to leave out! But, as painful as this topic was at times, I’m also SOOOOO excited to see all the participants lists! Not like I need help adding books to my TBR…. but I’m really interested to see what makes everyones lists today!

I mentioned in my wrap up this Sunday that I won’t be able to comment on posts today. I have an insane week due to daily doctors appointments and a hectic work schedule. I hope that I’ll be able to come back to your posts later to comment. I’ll also try my best to add everyone to the list as quickly as possible 🙂

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme where I explore different topics. If you are interested in participating I would love to have you! Here is a list of my Upcoming topics in June – please remember to ping back a specific post of mine so I get a notification and I will add you to the participants list!

HP and the philosophers stone

THE HARRY POTTER SERIES by J.K. Rowling

This series is my everything. To say that I have an obsession with these books is a massive understatement! No matter how many times I read these books there’s always something new that I missed or something that I had forgotten that catches my attention. The world and the characters is just so huge!!! I have read the first book about 20 times by now and I’m still not bored of it.

nevernight

NEVERNIGHT by Jay Kristoff

This was the first book by Jay Kristoff that I read where I was absolutely stunned by his writing. His characters are so raw and badass, his worlds are like none other, and he is absolutely RUTHLESS and FEARLESS to put his characters through hell and back to make a good story! This is the book that made him my favourite author…. it’s a masterpiece!!!

The book thief

THE BOOK THIEF by Markus Zusak

I almost gave up on this one….. and yet here it sits on my all time favourites list! This book is told from the perspective of death….. which was really hard to wrap my head around in the beginning. As the story moves along you almost forget about that as you fall in love with the characters and their desires for love and happiness. This book made me sob like no other at the end!! My heart was so full of conflicting emotions – love, joy, anger, heartbreak….. it can’t be explained – this book has to be felt.

Every heart a doorway

EVERY HEART A DOORWAY by Seanan McGuire

This book was one of the most surprising reads I’ve come across over the last 3 years. I went into it expecting a sort of blah mystery….. but I ended up getting a unique and entrancing fantasy that made me want so much more! What she was able to do in just a few hundred pages with this story is nothing short of remarkable! I wasn’t a fan of the second book, but books 3 and 4 have gotten progressively better….. a feat that I didn’t think possible!!

between-shades-of-gray

BETWEEN SHADES OF GRAY by Ruta Sepetys

Never in my life have I read a book that made me cry so much! I think I started crying before the 20 page mark and I didn’t stop until a week after I finished it. The story itself is powerful and emotional. But it’s the writing that accompanies that story line that really makes this a book to remember. I want to reread it so badly, but my heart is still broken from reading this the first time! Since then I’ve read 2 more books from this author and loved them both!

dark-matter

DARK MATTER by Blake Crouch

Talk about unexpected!!! The synopsis sounds interesting, but there’s no way that you can comprehend the twists and turns that are held within these pages! I recommended this book to my mom and MANY others. All of the people who decided to read it have sent me messages at 2am completely losing their minds because they loved it so much and couldn’t stop reading! Sleep is for the weak with this one!!!

City of Brass

THE CITY OF BRASS by S.A. Chakraborty

This book could have been 2,000 pages long and I still would have devoured every single word with stars in my eyes. There was something so entrancing about this book! The atmosphere, the world, the characters, the mythology, the politics…. EVERYTHING! The writing was just outstanding and made me feel like I was hanging off of every single word like it was the key to my existence.

strange-the-dreamer

STRANGE THE DREAMER by Laini Taylor

Speaking of writing….. there is no comparison to Laini Taylor’s writing in this book. Beautiful, stunning, magnificent, entrancing, superb, wonderful……. none of it comes close to describe the writing in this book. It took me forever to read this book the first time because I kept stopping to reread lines that stopped me in my tracks with their beauty. I would reread entire pages and sit there starting at the page as I let it sink in. The story itself is just as amazing as the writing! Once again, a book that needs to be experienced to fully appreciate!

The hearts invisible furies

THE HEART’S INVISIBLE FURIES by John Boyne

Oh I was NOT prepared for this book! I had heard so many people talk about how good it was, but I didn’t really know a whole lot about it. And, to be honest, the size was intimidating. Once I started reading though…. I just couldn’t stop! I ended up finishing this book in less than 24 hours because I needed to know! A simple story that follows a man from youth to death had me experiencing every emotion that there was to experience. I laughed, I cried (a lot), and I haven’t stopped thinking about this book since!

the seven husbands of evelyn hugo

THE SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Even though this book was getting so much hype, I didn’t think I would like it. I hated the cover and I hated the idea of the life of a Hollywood starlet. Well, let me tell you – the hype is real! This isn’t your typical book about a famous girl in Hollywood. This is a beautiful and hard hitting story about a woman who wants to love and be loved in a time and place where things aren’t as simple. I tried to keep count of how many times I cried while reading this book….. I gave up! LOL!

TOP 5 TUESDAY PARTICIPANTS:

There they are! My top 10 all time favourites! I could have added SO MANY MORE! Like The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, The Martian by Andy Weir….. the list goes on! But these are at least 10 books that I fell in love with and can still feel the emotions I felt while reading it many months ago!

What books would make your all time favourites list??

Until next time, happy reading!

  4. I didn’t include HP and The BOok thief because I decided to just list the ones I’ve read in the past 3 years. It made choosing easier. hehe. Anyway, I have 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo in my list too. Like I didn’t expect to love it. Why it has everything I despise in a novel but Evelyn is such a very compelling character.
By the way, take care. Hope everything’s fine or getting better for you. :0

That’s a great mix of books. Favourite reads always seem be to the ones that elicit the biggest emotional response.
I’ve wussed out this week and not done my Top 5 all time favourites – I just couldn’t choose! I’ve got over 150 books that’s I’ve rated 5 star. I’m looking forward to reading what books everyone else has listed though.

    Liked by 2 people

    1. 😂 I don’t even want to know how many books I’ve rated 5 stars. But now I’m totally curious and will figure that out sometimes today lol!! Making an all time faves list is so hard!!!

Oh, I’m so glad to hear that about Between Shades of Gray! I’ve read Salt to the Sea, and I just picked up that one last week, so I can’t wait to dive in.

UGH AND YES, I totally agree that City of Brass could have been 2000 pages, and I still would have died over it. That, and Strange the Dreamer, which is totally on my top 10 all-time, as well!

    Liked by 2 people

    1. Salt to the Sea was good…. but nowhere near as amazing as Shades of Gray was! I hope you love it!

Ten absolutely great choices and, like you said, it’s sooooo difficult to chose just 10 from all the books I’ve read over the years. So I kept my list to books read and loved over the last 3-4 years. Much more manageable.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. A few people did that…… I wish I was smart enough to think of that! Would have made the list much less painful to create!

It was only half way through my post (and 20 books later) that I had the epiphany to have a shorter time frame. lol!

  11. Harry Potter, Strange the Dreamer and The Book Thief would totally make my list of favourites too! While I loved to read Nevernight, my favourite book by Jay Kristoff (and Amie Kaufman) is Illuminae.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I was so close to adding Illuminae to my list but I thought I would add other authors. Illuminae is sooooo good!!

  12. abunchoflessonslearned says:

If my list had been a top 15 list The City of Brass definitely would have been there! I didn’t even allow myself to add Harry Potter to the list because it would be somewhat unfair to everything else that I love haha.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Hahahahaha I agree with this 100%! As much as I love the other books, nothing can touch Harry Potter!

I have a feeling Harry Potter will be in some lists today!
I really want to read Between Shades of Gray. I loved Salt to the Sea and this one has been hanging on my TBR ever since. Our library has it as audiobook but I kind of want to buy my own copy before reading it. 🙈

    Liked by 1 person

    1. If you liked Salt To The Sea then you’re going to go crazy over Between Shades of Gray! I liked Salt to the Sea, but it doesn’t even come close to how good Shades of Gray is! I hope you love it as much as I did!!

    1. Strange The Dreamer is one people either love or hate. The writing can be distracting and the plot isn’t very fast, so some people struggled to get through it. I’ll get you added to the list very soon!

Harry Potter, Harry Potter, Harry Potter. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is also SO good and it totally deserves the hype! Oh, and I’m currently reading Strange The Dreamer and I really hope I’ll like it. Anyway, I hope you’re having an amazing day 🙂
