First Impression Friday #26

It’s that time again!! My favourite friday – First Impression Friday!! I’m keeping the intro super short. I participated in a weekend readathon while also participating in the OWL’s readathon…. I’ve read A LOT of books over the last 2 weeks! Some I guessed spot on while others blindsided me. Let’s get to it!

First Impression Friday is a post that was created by the brilliant Joe from J.W. Martin – Storeys of Stories. Instead of doing this weekly like he does, I decided to do this one biweekly. So every two weeks, I take the books that I’ve finished within that time period, and I compare my first impressions (from the first 1-2 chapters) with my final thoughts and how I rated it. Here are my first impressions of the books I’ve read in the last 2 weeks:

The lies of Locke Lamora

MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS – Hmmmm this one had a bit of an interesting start! I couldn’t tell just yet how this story was going to go, but I immediately fell in love with Locke and his brilliant mind! The beginning of this book starts with him as a young child of about 5 years old. Him at 5 was terrifying so I couldn’t wait to get into his adventures as an adult! I also loved the language and humour. I guessed that I would rate this 4 stars…..

HOW I RATED IT – Close, but I ended up rating it 5 stars! This book was utterly brilliant! One of the most complex and inclusive stories I’ve ever read! The depths of their deception and the amount of detail and planning that went into this book was mind blowing!! I can’t wait to start book 2! Click here for my full spoiler free review!

The Bear

MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS – The first chapter of this book was pretty intense! We meet a 5 year old girl on a camping trip with her parents. She hears noises outside of her tent which turns into her parents being brutally attacked by a bear. She didn’t know exactly what the noises were, but we did as the reader, and it was cringeworthy! I guessed that I would rate this 4 stars…..

HOW I RATED IT – ugh….. definitely not! I ended up rating it 2 stars and even that was stretching it out a bit. There were a few things that I enjoyed but, as a whole, the perspective of a 5 year old was way too over the top for me. I have a full review with more thoughts on this coming soon.

Bittersweet

MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS – The beginning of this book had be considering DNF’ing it. We were introduced to the main character Audrey and she wasn’t my favourite. I thought that she was going to be this shallow, naive, annoying city girl who got on my nerves. Because of that I guessed that I would rate this 3 stars…..

HOW I RATED IT – It looked like I was going to hate it in the beginning, but then it turned around and I LOVED it! I ended up rating it 4 stars and LOVED the characters and their development. I also loved the whole family aspect of this plot! We got to see so many things that influence a persons life and how each person can help them be better in the end. My review will be coming soon 🙂

Kiss the girl

MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS – It took me a whole 2 sentences to know that I was going to rate this one 5 stars lol! This is book 3 to the Naughty Princess Club series and it’s from the perspective of Ariel. She’s been my favourite character since book 1 and I’ve been dying to get into a book all about her! I guessed that I would rate this 5 stars…..

HOW I RATED IT – OBVIOUSLY it was 5 stars! This was everything I hoped it would be. Funny, brutally honest, hilarious, inspiring, and so much more! I love this series so much but this one – this one is my favourite!

Nocturna

MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS – I was immediately sucked into this book! There was something about the writing style that just clicked. It made me desperate for more of the world and the characters. It’s one of those books that makes you want to sink deeper into your chair and read straight through until the last page. I guessed that I would rate this 5 stars…..

HOW I RATED IT – I ended up rating it 4 stars but it was VERY close to 5! The writing had me hooked all the way through to the end. The way she writes her characters, developing them along the way, was great! The magic was stunning, the world was interesting – everything! There were some tiny things that I didn’t enjoy as much but I will DEFINITELY be putting this author on my auto buy list!

The missing season

MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS – What do I say about this one… I had no freaking clue what I was going to think about this one! The first chapter offered nothing at all as far as plot goes, but it was quite apparent to me that the writing style wasn’t for me. I was determined to push through just a little further though. I guessed that I would rate this 3 stars…..

HOW I RATED IT – This one sadly didn’t end up with a rating as I decided to DNF it. The writing style just wasn’t for me. I don’t know why but it just felt jumpy and immature. I read quite a bit further into the book, hoping that the plot would pick up more and the characters would draw me in. Nope. Didn’t happen. I just couldn’t do it. I didn’t finish it so I won’t be posting a review.

Hello Girls

MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS – Honestly, my first impression of this one was “who are these characters?!?!?” But in a good way! We have two main characters and both of them were so different and quirky in their own way. They obviously had struggles at home, and I wondered what it was that brought them together. It didn’t lend anything to the plot so I didn’t know what to think lol. I guessed that I would rate this 4 stars…..

HOW I RATED IT – And I did! This book was every bit the adventure that I hoped it would be! It was just the right amount of fun, suspense, adventure, chaos, mystery, and over the top shenanigans. These poor girls though! I was SOOOO angry for them and their situations! I’m really starting to love anything that Emily Henry writes!

Flower divider

There it is folks! All the books I’ve read over the last two weeks – and it was A LOT! I haven’t read anything since finishing Hello Girls though. I hoped to continue the reading train and then I started the Game of Thrones show right from the beginning….. I seem to have completely forgotten about books….. oops! LOL!

Until next time, happy reading!
