Happy Fri-yay!!! And since it’s First Impression Friday week I’m even more excited! I absolutely love taking a look at what I thought about a book in the beginning and comparing it to how I rated it in the end. Sadly I haven’t read a lot over the last 2 weeks so this is a short one. But the next time I do this meme it’s going to be LONG as I’ve got the Off The Grid Readathon happening next week! So let’s see what my first impressions were for my last reads:
First Impression Friday is a post that was created by the brilliant Joe from J.W. Martin – Storeys of Stories. Instead of doing this weekly like he does, I decided to do this one biweekly. So every two weeks, I take the books that I’ve finished within that time period, and I compare my first impressions (from the first 1-2 chapters) with my final thoughts and how I rated it. Here are my first impressions of the books I’ve read in the last 2 weeks:
MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS – I was so excited to get into this book!!! It had been quite a while since I read the first book in the series but as soon as I started this book it was like I’d read book 1 yesterday. I missed these characters SO much! And I was really excited to see what was in store for Belle as she was such a quiet nerdy girl. I guessed that I would rate this 5 stars…..
HOW I RATED IT – Of course it was 5 stars!!! This series is just amazing! And, being a total shy nerd just like Belle, it was really great to see how she came out of her shell and gained confidence in herself without losing who she was. I can’t wait to get to the final book!!
MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS – The first chapter of this book was a little difficult to make an assumption. Not a whole lot was offered in the beginning. But, there was an indication that something was being hidden. A young boy is incredibly ill and slowly getting better when he’s called to be the apprentice of a binder. There’s a weird hatred of books with his parents but they didn’t seem to have a choice but to let him go. I couldn’t wait to learn about the binding and how people’s memories were put into a book! I guessed that I would rate this 4 stars…..
HOW I RATED IT – Wrong. Sadly this guess was VERY wrong. This just wasn’t the book for me at all. It turned out to be nothing like I expected. I wanted to know all about the magic and how the memories were put into books. But it ended up being more of a character driven story and a romance. Everything that I hoped for just fell flat. I ended up rating it 2.5 stars.
Those are the two books I’ve read over the last two weeks. I’ve almost got The Lies of Locke Lamora finished and I can’t wait to talk about it!!!! I hope you’re prepared for the next first impression post….. I have high hopes and motivation for reading at the moment so it’s going to be a big one!
Until next time, happy reading!
