Top 5 Book Spines!

Happy Top 5 Tuesday everyone! I’m SOOOOOO excited for this topic! Let’s be honest, book spines are SO underrated. They’re always second best. The cover gets all the attention but the spines never get their time in the spotlight. If you think about it though – what do you see more of on your shelf? Spines or covers? Yes, covers are gorgeous, but it’s mainly spines that you see as you look at a book shelf! There are quite a few out there that are beautiful, attention grabbing, and deserve their 15 minutes of fame! Book spines, this one’s for you!

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme where I explore different topics. If you are interested in participating I would love to have you! Here is a list of my Upcoming topics in March – please remember to ping back a specific post of mine so I get a notification and I will add you to the participants list!

top 5 book spines

WE ARE THE ANTS by Shaun David Hutchinson
There is something so aesthetically pleasing about this spine! The colours, the setting sun, the font, the sharp geometrical lines mixed with the rounded lines, the shadow of the trees…. this spine always catches my attention!

THE LONELIEST GIRL IN THE UNIVERSE by Lauren James
If I was to choose just one book spine – this one is hands down my favourite! It’s so simple yet so beautiful!! I love the pop of the bright pink against the dark blue! And the font is so balanced with the circular pattern on the bottom. I don’t know what it is about that circular pattern, but it seriously makes my heart happy! This is the spine of an ARC copy, so I don’t know if the finished copy looks like this (I hope that it does!)

THE SUN IS ALSO A STAR by Nicola Yoon
Ahh just look at that! The colours and the starburst pattern is just to die for! I’ve always been drawn to the colour combination of purples, oranges, and pinks, so this is naturally a favourite of mine! I’m also a huge fan of a title that takes up the vast majority of a spine. I don’t know why!

THE QUEEN OF THE TEARLING by Erika Johansen
This spine is so elegant and classy! This reminds me of a spine from many years ago. It just has a vintage feel to it. And the gold swirls in between the words of the title is so much nicer in person!

LANDLINE by Rainbow Rowell
I’m obsessed with stripes. Can’t say why lol. But this one is so soft and elegant! I love the muted colours and the combination of pink and grey. But it’s the font that gets me every time! I also like the choice of the title in black and the authors name in white.

Being a huge lover of book spines, I’m glad that I was able to feature them and show them some love. Is there anyone else out there that’s equally obsessed with spines as much as they are covers? Or am I the only weird one? lol

Until next time, happy reading!

I feel like books have got better looking in the last ten years. It’s like they took one look at the Kindle and upped their game. Nothing like a bit of healthy competition, and not surprised that the printed book is selling well again.

    1. I think you hit the nail on the head! I’m so thankful covers and such have gotten a revamp. Looking back at covers and spines from the 80’s and 90’s totally make me cringe!

  11. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen the spine of The Sun is Also a Star. It’s gorgeous! I also have The Queen of the Tearling, but it didn’t make it onto my list, although, it probably should’ve. I already had two blackish covers picked though ^_^

My favorite above is Landline as I love the stripes! Sorry I am posting hyper late and my first pic was crap as it was dark by the time I made it home to write the post and take the pic! Artificial light is a nightmare for photographers! Here is my post https://wp.me/p8cg8e-2ur

  16. That spine for Landline is so much nicer than the one I have!! I think the only striped spine I have is Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella (which is an awesome YA contemporary with anxiety-rep as the MC). x
