March 2019 TBR!

I’m still struggling to figure out what I’m in the mood to read. Being a mood reader is HARD sometimes! I’m also struggling to keep my fantasy and science fiction slump away…. and it’s not working. Baby steps. I’m going to set a small and loose TBR this month and just try to go with the flow. April and May will be heavy months for ARC’s and new releases so I want to leave this month open to read whatever I feel in the mood for. Here are a few of the books I’m considering:

I’m currently in the middle of Red Sister by Mark Lawrence. I’m splitting this up between the audiobook and physically reading. I struggled SO HARD with this in the beginning. I don’t know if it was just the writing or still me struggling with fantasy. Now I’m around the 200 page mark and it’s getting better. I will also be reading Wicked Saints by Emily A Duncan this month as I’m a part of the blog tour! My tentative date for the tour stop is March 26th. So check back towards the end of the month!

Another ARC that I’ll be reading this month is The Binding by Bridget Collins. All I know about this one is that it has to do with a librarian/book binder who binds memories into books. Any memory you want to forget can be bound into the pages of a book and forgotten. Sounds interesting! And another book that I think I’ll be getting to this month is The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch. It will actually be a buddy read with Joe from J.W. Martin – storeys of stories! We’ve both got a busy schedule this month though so I’m not sure it’s going to happen.

These last two I’m not sure that I’ll get to this month but I would like to get to them ASAP! The Missing Season by Gillian French is an ARC that doesn’t publish until May, but it sounds so interesting that I can’t stop thinking about it! Missing kids, a legend of a monster called The Mumbler, and a halloween prank war – sounds creepy and promising! And next is Tess of the Road by Rachel Hartman. I LOVE Piera Forde and she loves this book, so I hope I will too!

Those are the books sitting on my immediate TBR shelf. I’m really not sure which of these I’ll actually be getting to though. I’ll let my mood carry me to the books it wants me to read! What do you hope to read this month?

Until next time, happy reading!

  2. I enjoyed The Binding although I feel it was more of a romance novel than the Fantasy it was billed as.

I’ve got Priory of the Orange Tree and Orphanage of the Gods in my TBR list for March (although with the size of Priory I’ll be pleased just to read that!)

    1. Hmmmm more of a romance? I’m not sure how I feel about that. I guess I’ll have to wait and see. I definitely thought it would be more fantastical
I’ve been hearing SO MUCH HYPE over Priory! I think I need to look into it! I also heard a few people mention it’s as large as a brick….. hello, intimidating 😂

      1. I expected The Binding to be more fantastical as well.
I still enjoyed it, the writing was great but it wasn’t the book I expected to be reading.

None of the publicity material/blurb mention the romance element and I was disappointed we didn’t learn more about Binding which is a brilliant idea that I hadn’t seen before.

Most people seem to love it though so it might just be me!

Priory is huge! It’s on my bookshelf and next on my list.

        1. Thanks for letting me know. The blurb and everything I’ve seen about it so far haven’t mentioned romance either. It’s sad when you go into a book expecting one thing and you get something else. Thanks for keeping it real 😂

I’ve seen people gushing quite a bit about the stunning cover for The Binding, so I’ll try to see if I can find that one sometime in March. Happy reading!

    1. Ugh. I hope you’re able to climb out of it soon. I finally picked up a book and I feel the urge to read again. It’s been a LONG time but I’m not holding my breath that the feeling will stick around 😂

    1. 😂😂😂😂 Locke Lamora WILL be happening. There are a few people that have threatened physical harm if I didn’t read it…… lol
Feeling you on the lull between ARC’s. I’m going to be utterly swamped in April and May!

I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who’s struggled with Red Sister and that it gets better! I tried reading it when it was first released and just couldn’t get into the writing style, but it’s fantasy assassin nuns which is everything I should love so I’m determined to read it. The Binding and The Lies of Locke Lamore are both on my TBR, too – I hope you enjoy them and look forward to your thoughts on them! 🙂

    1. If you listen to audiobooks I highly recommend listening to the beginning of Red Sister. It really helped push through until it picked up and I settled into the writing style. I hope you can get into it soon!

    1. There are quite a few people dealing with a slump right now. I’m blaming it on winter blues

I’ve had “Tess of the Road” on my TBR for so long! I hope it’s good, because I’m trying my best to get to it, soon. Hopefully your favorable review will push it further up the list!

  13. Being a mood reader is SO TOUGH lol. Especially when there are things you’re obligated to read. I keep putting them off and consequently have been dealing with a back up since January. Hope you have a great March!

    1. I wish there was some magic mood reading cure out there. I so envy people who can pick up whatever they want, whenever they want. They’re like the unicorns of bookworms!

  14. This is a great TBR! I am really looking forward to Wicked Saints and Tess of the Road! The Binding also sounds like a really good read. It definitely IS hard being a mood reader — I’ve been trying to shake off my reading slump all February with little success 😦
