February 2019 Wrap Up!

February was a fantastic reading month! This always ends up being a very busy month work wise, so I normally don’t read a lot. But – thankfully I had a day where I did a 24 hour readathon and managed to get in a few extra books! And because I was really busy, I looked towards books as a way to escape all the stressful realities that were going on. I finished a total of 8 books and I couldn’t be happier with that number! I still haven’t reviewed all of them as I’m behind on reviews, but reviews are coming soon 🙂 Here’s what I read this month:

The tattooist of auschwitz

THE TATTOOIST OF AUSCHWITZ by Heather Morris <—– click for full review – 3.25 stars
I went into this one expecting great things. I’m a huge fan of historical fiction, especially ones that are WWII historical fiction, and this one in particular was gaining A LOT of hype! Unfortunately I was let down. I was bored to be honest, and never felt that emotional attachment to the characters or the plot. This one missed the mark with me somehow.

When the sky fell on splendor

WHEN THE SKY FELL ON SPLENDOR by Emily Henry <—– click for full review – 4 stars
This was such a pleasant surprise! I’ve heard a lot about Emily Henry and she’s come highly recommended by fellow book lovers. And now I know why! I ended up loving the characters, was invested in the plot (with all its unusual quirks), and loved the ending. In fact, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about the ending! This one was really great and I can’t wait to read more from this author!!

The Hero of Ages

THE HERO OF AGES by Brandon Sanderson <—– click for full review – 4 stars
OMG I love this entire trilogy SO MUCH! The magic system is one of the most amazing and well developed systems I’ve ever read! And in this book, he wrapped everything up – giving me all the answers I craved and even ones I didn’t know I had questions for! The tone and atmosphere was a little different in this book compared to the first two, but the way this all wrapped up was absolutely mind blowing. Brandon Sanderson is a solid favourite of mine now!

On the come up

ON THE COME UP by Angie Thomas <—– click for full review – 5 stars
Angie Thomas is QUEEN! This book was fantastic! So real, raw, and inspirational. I wanted to smack the main character (Bri) so many times! She made some bad decisions but she had the best of intentions. It’s all a part of growing up and learning your own way. Her journey was so engrossing – the good AND the bad. As with The Hate You Give, the parents and families were my favourite part. The message and lessons learned were SO powerful…. this is a must read!

stillhouse lake

STILLHOUSE LAKE by Rachel Caine <—– click for full review – 3 stars
I’ve been in the mood for a good mystery lately….. and this wasn’t it. It was an entertaining story, and certain aspects were great, but as a whole, I had some serious issues with it. The main character made some decisions I didn’t appreciate, and it was quite repetitive throughout. I talk more in detail in the actual review. I didn’t realize that this was a series until I finished this. I won’t be continuing with the series.

Crazy rich asians

CRAZY RICH ASIANS by Kevin Kwan <—– click for full review – 5 stars!
Why, oh why, did I wait so long to read this! I absolutely LOVED this book! Books about rich people/families aren’t my thing. I can’t relate to their “problems” because I’m flat ass broke, so I find them all to be annoying. In this case though – they were so excessively rich yet down to earth and firmly rooted in family and tradition. The characters were so well developed and made the changes in perspective easy to differentiate. This was way better than expected and I can’t wait to pick up book 2!

No exit

NO EXIT by Taylor Adams (review to come) – 4 stars
I was looking for a good mystery…. and I got one! This is more of a mystery/thriller and I was pleasantly surprised. The first two chapters laid it all out and I wondered how in the hell the rest of the book could continue. This was where the thriller aspects came into play and it turned into a fast paced action novel of survival and murder. Full review will be coming next week.

The girl in the tower

THE GIRL IN THE TOWER by Katherine Arden (review to come) – 4 stars
I just finished this one a couple days ago and I liked it just as much as the first one, but for totally different reasons. In book one it was focused mainly on magic, folklore, and atmosphere. In this one we still get all that but we also get adventure and politics. The folklore was able to be explored a little deeper and I have a feeling we’re going to get even more in book 3 – I can’t wait for it!!!!

Those are all the books I read in February! Not bad for a month that felt like utter chaos lol! I hope you had a fantastic month as well! What was your favourite read in February? Mine is a toss up between On The Come Up and Crazy Rich Asians!

Until next time, happy reading!

    1. He has another YA series called Steelheart I think. As far as his adult books I’ve only read the Mistborn series. The main character in Mistborn is a teenager so it can also be considered YA, but it’s more epic in the world building and magic. It’s amazing!
