Top 5 Slytherin Reads!

And here we are! The final Hogwarts house in the Harry Potter themed month! I just wanted to say a quick thank you to all the participants out there! This themed month went over better than I ever expected! I hope to do another themed month in the near future 🙂 But, for today, we need to focus on the final (and most controversial) Hogwarts house – Slytherin! Controversial you ask? Yes! There are some that love this house for all its amazing qualities. But then there are some that can’t see past the evil that this house has produced. “He Who Must Not Be Named”, the Malfoy’s, Bellatrix Lestrange, and so many more…. those are who I’m talking about! Despite the few bad seeds, this house has some really admirable qualities! Let’s see what their traits are:

They are ambitious, driven, goal focused, determined, prepared, perfectionists, adaptable, realistic, self reliant, charming, assertive, and ruthless. They are highly selective with their loyalty, love positive attention and thrive on praise, care about the impression they give, demand respect, and can be disloyal.

As you can see, these traits technically can lend to “douche-baggery”, but at the same time it can be used for the powers of good! My daughter was sorted into Slytherin and she’s nothing like the Malfoy family! Here are a few books and characters that I think would fit into Slytherin house:

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme where I explore different topics. If you are interested in participating I would love to have you! Here is a list of my Upcoming topics in March – please remember to ping back a specific post of mine so I get a notification and I will add you to the participants list!

nevernight

NEVERNIGHT by Jay Kristoff (Specifically the main character, Mia)
If you’ve read (or even heard of) this book, I’m sure you wouldn’t deny that this is 100000% a Slytherin read! Everything about this book screams Slytherin! Not only would the main character Mia be sorted into this house, but the book itself is something that a Slytherin would devour!

ACOTAR

A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES by Sarah J Maas (Specifically Rhysand)
Now that I’ve got this book alongside Nevernight….. I might actually ship Rhysand and Mia! It would be interesting to see if they would either get along well (and take over the world), or kill each other in creative and spectacular ways. Rhysand ends up being soft at heart, but he’s a Slytherin to the core!

Outlander

OUTLANDER by Diana Gabaldon (Specifically main character, Claire)
Though I’m sure this is a book that a Slytherin would enjoy, I think it would have a lot to do with the characters. Claire is a true Slytherin. Adaptable, determined, ambitious, ruthless, and self reliant. I also feel like if I was in an awkward situation, I would want her by my side. We would always make it through!

Invictus

INVICTUS by Ryan Graudin
This is a book I think every Slytherin would enjoy! The characters traits all seem to be in line with the house, but the plot, the action, the adventure – it all reminds me of something that a Slytherin would enjoy. The characters are all a big family and have quite a few traits that fit their “friend circle”

The poppy war

THE POPPY WAR by R.F. Kuang
If a Slytherin is looking for their next read and they enjoy fantasy……. this – you need to read this! If there was ever a book written just for this house, then this is it. The plot, the characters, the brutality, the political intrigue, the war……. I would put money on the fact that a Slytherin would love this one!!

I’m always attracted to Slytherin characters for some reason and that also includes Mia and Rhys! I don’t ship them because I think they’d be on each other’s throat LOL. Frenemies maybe?
Awesome list! I’d put ACOTAR and Nevernight on my list too if it wasn’t already full. Here’s mine ^^

Great list!! I remember loving ACOTAR when I read it, and I absolutely love Outlander (the tv show, I haven’t read the books :c).. I’d also add Three Dark Crowns by Kendary Blake to the list, it’s not extremely dark but there are important political conflitcs in their world AND most characters are actually pretty manipulative

    1. The Outlander TV show is fantastic! I haven’t finished the first season yet but it’s really close to the books. As much as I like the show, I might like the book more 😉
