HCC Frenzy Spring Preview and Angie Thomas Event!

Also known as – THE BEST WEEKEND EVER!!!!! Despite the awful drive home, this was the best bookish weekend I’ve ever had! What made it even better was the fact that I got to spend it with my daughter. She’s almost 14, and this was definitely an eye opening experience for her. Hearing about all the amazing books about to be released fuelled her love and desire to read. And then, the Angie Thomas event…… it was the most inspiring thing! She needed to hear the good and the bad, and needed (most of all) to hear that she’s perfect the way she is. More on that in a bit. But first – the HCC Frenzy event! This post will be HUGE so you’ve been warned lol

OMG this was so amazing! I can’t believe that I haven’t gone to this event before. It was so comforting being in a room with 110+ people who share your love (and obsession) with reading. I also got to see a few other bloggers there that I’ve been talking to for years and it was so nice to put a face to the blog! I met Flavia Flavia The Bibliophile and she was every bit as adorable in person as she is in her blog! Next time Flavia, I won’t be so afraid to talk to you lol! I also talked to Zoe from the YouTube channel YerABookNerdZoe and Hailey from Hailey in Bookland. There were also more that I’ve only known through Instagram.

I had my 13 year old daughter with me and it was perfect for her. She’s a book lover but it’s hard for her to choose a book when she isn’t sure she’s going to like it. But – getting to hear from Harper Collins employees who have already read the book, excitedly talk about them, was just what she needed! Now her TBR list is huge and I’ve never been more proud!

Now, onto the swag we got! We both got a bag with bookish items and 3 books each. She got two that I didn’t (so I’m also claiming them as mine lol) Here’s a look at what we got:

HCC 11

First I’ll talk about the books. First is Noctura – a YA fantasy that literally every single Harper Collins employee was raving about even if they didn’t enjoy fantasy! It’s a LatinX, own voices fantasy about a girl who is a face shifter. She is caught by a Mobster and given a choice: Steal a treasure from the Royal Palace or lose her magic forever. The Prince is living in the shadow of his older brother and, to live up to the high standards placed upon him, he dabbles in forbidden magic. The two collide and they unlock an ancient power. It sounds amazing! Find it on Goodreads HERE. Next I got Pan’s Labyrinth and it is GORGEOUS!!! I bet that the finished copy will be even more amazing! Based on the movie (which I have yet to see) this is a stunning fantasy novel that I can’t wait to dive into! There was so much excitement surrounding this one! Find it on Goodreads HERE. Lastly I got The Missing Season which is a mystery that I was told was SUPER CREEPY and dark! Sold lol. I didn’t need to know much more. It’s about missing kids and a monster that has been named the Mumbler…… I can’t wait to dive in! Find it on Goodreads HERE. We also got a sampler of The Evil Queen which is a Snow White retelling involving the Evil Queen…… I can’t tell you how much I love a good villain story!!!!

Now, onto the bookish goodies!

First we got a tote bag with everything inside. The one side has the HCC Frenzy logo, and the other side has the quote “Let’s get Literary”. There’s always room in my life for another bookish tote bag! Next is two bookmarks. They’re double sided and feature books to be released within the next few months. Next is TEA! The first is a detox green tea from Tealish and it smells amazing! Citrus, floral, and green tea – oh my! I can’t wait to try it! There were also samplers from David’s Tea which is a solid favourite of mine.

Next is a bath bomb from Da Bomb Bath Co. and it smells like heaven! I’m not normally a bath person but this smells too good not to soak in! Next is possibly my favourite item – A MUG! When they mentioned we got a mug, literally the entire room went “OOOHHHH!” Glad I’m not the only one obsessed lol. Next were candies from local companies. One was Golden Ticket Candies and it was so good! Chewy and delicious. But the hard candies from Sweet Artisan Candies was my favourite! I’ve had them before and fell in love but didn’t remember the company name. So when I saw these I got really excited! I got strawberry lemonade and my daughter got unicorn lol.

Lastly is a pillowcase from Owlcrate. It’s a quote from Six of Crows that says “When you can’t beat the odds, change the game.” Love it! The last picture shows the sampler of The Evil Queen and the two other ARC’s that my daughter got which is With The Fire on High and Hello Girls. I can’t wait to read these two as well!!!

Now onto the Angie Thomas event. I can’t explain in words how amazing this event was!!! Angie Thomas is so down to earth, real, and AMAZING! She is incredibly intelligent, and more inspiring in person than in her books….. yeah, it’s insane! She made me laugh, she made me cry (a few times), and made me feel like I could take on the world. She’s the type of person that you are drawn to like a flame. Inspiring is an understatement. She talked about the good, the bad, and everything in between. She made everyone in the room feel like they’re good enough just the way they are. Her mother was even there and I wanted to just squeeze her! She’s so adorable!!!! I’m so glad that my daughter got to hear what she had to say. I think it was definitely an eye opening experience for her.

So that was my weekend! It was more amazing than I ever expected. I feel so refreshed, enlightening, excited, energized, accepted, loved, and powerful. It was so nice being in the presence of so many book lovers!! And if you EVER have the chance to see Angie Thomas – DO IT! Even if you can find her talks on YouTube – DO IT! She is truly an amazing woman!!

Until next time, happy reading!

    1. I totally wish they had events like this when I was a kid! The best thing we had were book fairs 😂
Are you going to the one in the summer? I think I’m going to. I would love the chance to get to talk to you a little more. I was so afraid to even say hi!

Yeeees! And I don’t think I ever even went to a book fair hahaha. I would just beg my dad to take me to the library lmao. And yeah I’ll be going to the summer one 🙂 and I’m happy to hear that you probably will too! And oh goshhh but I totally get it! I was way too shy to say hi to some people hahaha. I hope we’ll get to chat more next time too!

        1. It was VERY overwhelming at that point. Maybe we could arrange a dinner or coffee after where it’s not so chaotic!
