Weekly & 24 Hour Readathon Wrap Up!

Sunday’s are my wrap up day, so I figured I would kill two birds with one stone and wrap up both my week and the 24 hour readathon together! A lot happened this week. Even though work was insane, we had an ice storm that knocked out power for hours, the schools were cancelled, and my kid ended up out at the hospital for a possible ear infection, I still managed to read A LOT! I used my books to escape the chaos of my life and then I ended the week with the house ALL TO MYSELF on Saturday, making it a 24 hour readathon day! I NEVER get the house to myself – ever. So Saturday was a day that I fully took advantage of! More on that later in the post. Lets jump on in!

BOOKS I FINISHED THIS WEEK:

Yes, I finished 4 books this week! I’m still in shock myself! As great as it is to finish so many books, it’s put me behind on reviews, so expect a lot of reviews on the blog for a while lol. The first book I finished was On The Come Up by Angie Thomas. She is a QUEEN at writing amazing characters along with great plots and empowering messages. Next weekend I am attending an event with her and can’t wait to hear more of her thoughts about this one! The second book I finished was Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine. I’ve been in the mood for mysteries lately! I don’t read them often, and it takes a lot to impress me. Sadly, this one didn’t quite do that. There were a lot of positives, and a lot of negatives. More detailed thoughts to come soon. The third book I read was Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan……. WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG TO READ THIS?!?!?! OMG I loved it so much! I’m glad that I chose to read it during a readathon because I don’t know if I would be able to set it down! And finally, the last book I read was No Exit by Taylor Adams. It started off ok then I almost DNF’d it. But I wanted to get through the first part before I set it aside. Luckily it picked up and I actually really enjoyed it! It exceeded my expectations!

BOOKS I’M CURRENTLY READING:

A Little Life

I only just picked this one up last night and haven’t committed to it just yet. I’ve heard from so many people that this book is absolutely amazing, but they end up putting it down a few times throughout due to the size and subject matter. So I figure if I start it now, I might finish it in a few months….. lol

OTHER BOOKISH NEWS:

TOP 5 TUESDAY:

Let me start off by saying I’m SO SORRY for taking so long to update the list on Tuesday! That was the day that we had the ice storm and it knocked out power. Trees were falling on power lines (then the trees would catch on fire!) and power was off and on for a while. It was the topic I was most excited for and I’m so upset that I didn’t get the chance to comment on all your wonderful posts!!! Next week’s house is Hufflepuff 🙂

24 HOUR READATHON!

As I said above – I NEVER get the house to myself. With a husband and two kids, there’s always someone here. But on Saturday my daughter was away at a sleepover, and my husband and son were away for a fishing show, and I used my time wisely! During the readathon I managed to read THREE BOOKS! Stillhouse Lake was one that I had started before the readathon so the page count is smaller. Here’s what I read:

  • Stillhouse Lake – 88 pages
  • Crazy Rich Asians – 527 pages
  • No Exit – 336 pages
  • A Little Life – 30 pages

That brought me to a total of 981 pages! I didn’t realize until just now that I was only 19 pages away from 1,000……… I would have just read the extra 19 pages! LOL!

So that was my absolutely insane yet productive week! I’m dreaming of warmer weather and no snow! I live in Canada so I should just accept the snow – but i’m not there yet, and don’t think I ever will be! I hope you all had a fantastic week!

Until next time, happy reading!

2 questions: What God did you have to make sacrifices to for the house to yourself? And how come I remember asking you this question before??

    1. To answer your question – ALL THE GODS and any future unborn children (which is impossible, yet they were sacrificed anyway). And this hasn’t happened before. Not for an entire day! I might get the odd hour here and there, but it was hours….. and I was so lost 😂

I remember now… you had an entire weekend, or maybe even a week back in the summer! How did you even have anything left to sacrifice?

        1. I did???? I don’t remember that…… I know I did a Readathon in the summer but I wasn’t alone. I was recovering from a surgery and everyone was here. Well, the kids were in school for the day. I remembered thinking that I have to have surgery to get time for a Readathon? How is this fair? 😂

It took me a couple of tries to get into A Little Life. But the second time I picked it up, I flew through it in like three days. I think it’s definitely a book you have to be in the right mood for. Happy reading!

That’s fab (not about your son and his ear infection, but the books, hope he is ok now?)

I’ve only ever done 1 readathon and that’s when my son was at camp…..I don’t think I could do normally as he is always in my ear!!!

    1. He’s ok! It was a congestion thing so no infection thank goodness!
My daughter is 13 and always in her room. But my son is 8 and a hardcore mama’s boy. He’s always by my side! Readathons are almost impossible 😂
