First book haul of the year….. and it’s quite a bit excessive lol! When a book hoarder is acknowledging the overly large size of a haul…. you know it’s big lol! I got a kindle for Christmas, thinking it would be a great idea. BUT – what I didn’t realize was how addicting those kindle deals are! It’s literally the first thing I do every morning. I wake up and check the amazon kindle deals, then check a few other book deal sites. The’s no problem with starting your day by book shopping! I just ran out of my gift cards from Christmas so now all these books will come out of my pocket. But who can say no when they’re less than $2?? So here are the 18 books I got this month…..
The first book I got was The Kingdom of Copper by S.A. Chakraborty. I’ve read this book and LOVED it sooooooo much! I actually have the review scheduled to publish in just a few hours. This author is a new favourite of mine and I’m pretty sure that I’ll love just about anything she writes. The last two books were from another favourite author. I picked up Down Among The Sticks and Bones (book 2) and In An Absent Dream (book 4) by Seanan McGuire. I had already read book 2 but didn’t own a copy. Then I picked up the newly released book 4 and read it as soon as possible. I LOVED it! Click here to see my full review of In An Absent Dream, and to find out how it crushed my heart lol!
EBOOKS FOR MY KINDLE:
It’s almost as if Amazon knew that I was obsessed with Brandon Sanderson and vowed to read as many of his books as I could in 2019. I picked up the whole Reckoners series! Steelheart, Firefight, and Calamity. Can’t wait to get to these!
The next three are fantasy’s that I’m so ready for! Storm Glass by Jeff Wheeler sounds really interesting! In a world of opposites, we have a princess living a luxurious life in the skies, and a girl in the slums of the ground level. Both want a different life and their paths cross. Sounds interesting and a beautiful cover! Next is The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin, which i’ve been hearing people talk about constantly for the longest time! And then we have Torn by Rowenna Miller. My bookish Twin from across the pond, Justine, had talked about it and then it showed up on sale – I couldn’t say no! It’s inspired by the French Revolution and there’s a seamstress who stitches magic into clothes….. yes please!
Here we have some fantasy and some science fiction. The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon is another one that’s been so hyped up. I had too many series on the go so I didn’t want to pick it up just yet….. but then….. kindle deals happened lol! Then Theres The Collapsing Empire by John Scalzi. He’s an author that I’ve been dying to get to for the longest time and I never knew were to start! This one is a space opera that sounds really complicated, so I won’t attempt to explain what it’s about. Then I picked up Rosewater by Tade Thompson. A town in Nigeria is surrounded by a mysterious alien biodome, mixed with deaths, and political intrigue…. sounds amazing!
Here we have a mix of different genres. First is Vigilance by Robert Jackson Bennett. I’ve been told by fantasy lovers everywhere that this is the next author that I HAVE to read! All I really know about it is that there are shooters who are put into a game type environment, and the survivors are given a cash prize. I can’t see this ending well! The next one is a mystery (I bought a mystery? We are all shocked) – The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton. This is a groundhog day type of scenario where, every night, a specific character is murdered in the evening. Every morning, the day resets, and we get the perspective of a new character. This continues for 7 days and 7 characters, until we figure out the murderer. Sounds interesting! And the last one here is Feed by Mira Grant….. which is a zombie novel!! I’ve never read a zombie novel before, so I can’t wait to see what it’s like! Speaking of Mira Grant……. Mira Grant and Seanan McGuire are actually the same person…… mind blowing!
And the final three books I have to haul today are a mix of genres again. Another mystery (who am I?) and that’s Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine. I’ve been wanting to get into mysteries more, and something about the synopsis and cover drew me in. My expectations are low, but I really want to love mysteries again! The next one is The River’s Song by Suchen Christine Lim. This is an adult fiction following two characters and the social upheaval in Singapore. Childhood friends come together after many years to a city that is nothing like how they remembered it. And lastly is Truth or Beard by Penny Reid. A friend of mine absolutely LOVES this author and I thought I would finally give her a shot!
Whew! That post took forever to put together! This is two massive book hauls in a row and I really don’t want to have to keep putting together these giant posts! Here’s hoping that I can learn to control my kindle purchases……. no one hold their breath!
Until next time, happy reading!
