Along with making plans and goals for the year of 2019, we also have the small goals for the month. This month is ESPECIALLY exciting as it’s the first Off The Grid Readathon of 2019! If you’re interested in participating, it begins on Friday January 11th at midnight and ends at 11:59pm on Sunday January 13th (in your own time zone). The whole point of this readathon is to read as much as you can within 72 hours WITHOUT the distractions of your phone, social media, games, etc. We plan on sitting down for an hour to read, only to be distracted by our phones and only end up reading for a few minutes. This DOES NOT mean that you can’t use your phone! This also doesn’t mean that you need to stop all responsibilities! This readathon is only to make us more aware of how much time we are wasting getting sucked into other distractions, and make you work harder to set those things aside. For more details about the readathon click here for the announcement post and you can also see all dates for 2019 here!
BOOKS I WANT TO READ IN JANUARY:
THE KINGDOM OF COPPER by S.A. Chakraborty
I don’t think it’s possible to be more excited about this book!!!!! I never planned to read the first book (The City of Brass) because of the mixed reviews, but I’m glad that I decided to read it and find out for myself. The characters, the world, the writing – it was just SO beautiful! I can’t wait of this book to come in the mail!!
LET’S GO SWIMMING ON DOOMSDAY by Natalie C Anderson
This one is an ARC that I received from the publisher and releases on January 15th. This is going to be a hard read for sure, and one that I hope will leave a lasting emotional impact. We have a young boy who is forced to be a child soldier, a spy, and then a suicide bomber. After a near death experience he is finally free of this life; that is until his brother is arrested and he needs to revisit his painful past. I was hooked on the cover alone!
ENCHANTEE by Gita Trelease
Towards the end of January I will be posting a review as a part of the blog tour! This book sounds absolutely AMAZING! A young girl and her bother are living off petty magic in the streets when all of a sudden she is caught up in the court of Versaille and Marie Antoinette. There’s a balloonist, magic, politics, royalty….. what more can you ask for?!
OFF THE GRID READATHON TBR!
SKYWARD by Brandon Sanderson
I NEED TO READ THIS BOOK! Everything about it sounds like a crazy adventure! It’s Brandon Sanderson (my most recent obsession), science fiction, and a girl who wants to become a pilot…… yes please! Not to mention the reviews so far are really positive!
TILLY AND THE BOOKWANDERERS by Anna James
I expect this one to be a fun, creative, and light adventure – perfect for a readathon! I’ve read a few middle grade over the last couple months and I have to say that I really enjoy the break. They’re usually quick reads and are a good reset for the mind. This one has been getting a lot of hype, and the premise of being able to hop into the books you love…… if only this were possible in real life!!!
Those are the books I hope to read this month! Since the beginning of December i’ve been fighting off a nasty reading slump. I refuse to let it take me down! I’m pushing through and hope that the freshness of the new year will help me get back into the swing of things! What do you plan on reading this month?
Until next time, happy reading!
I had no idea Natalie C. Anderson wrote another book. She wrote another book set in the Congo years ago called City of Saints and Thieves. Have you read that one? It’s awesome!

Oh, yes, THE KINGDOM OF COPPER is up there for January, along with THE LOST MAN by Jane Harper, and so much more, I hope, this year. Just finished two books already on a third! 😀

One day, ONE DAY there’ll be an Off-the-Grid readathon when I can actually participate, haha! I have my pregnancy shoot on Saturday and there’s remodeling happening at our house since yesterday so participating this time isn’t going to happen either. Maybe in half a year or so, haha. 😛
