MASSIVE December book haul! 30+ books!

This is hands down the biggest book haul I’ve ever done!!! I’m elated, excited, grateful, and also overwhelmed!!! I got a lot of ARC’s to review, some books bought for me, some books I bought with gift cards, and also……… drumroll please…… EBOOKS! That’s right ladies and gents – I got a Kindle for Christmas! I’ve always wanted to read ebooks, but screen time on my phone and computer hurt my eyes too badly. Now I have a paper white reader and my eyes are so thankful! This is going to be the longest haul I’ve ever done, but it was voted on Twitter that I put them all in one post. So get cozy because there’s a lot to see! I’ll talk a little about the ARC’s as they’re not yet released, but the other ones will get a very quick note. HERE WE GO!

ARC’S I RECIEVED – Thank you publishers!!

First we have THE BINDING by Bridget Collins. As soon as I read the synopsis I knew I NEEDED this book! It’s about a boy who is apprenticing to be a book binder. If you have a memory you want to get rid of or erase, a book binder can help. Your memories are bound in a book and meticulously stored. But when he finds a book with a name on it, things get interesting. Thanks Harper Collins for this beautiful book!

The next 2 ARC’s are from Raincoast books. ENCHANTÉE by Gita Trelease. This one is about a girl who relies on petty magic to keep her and her brother alive after her parents die. But then she gets caught up in the life of the Palace of Versaille, and the court of Marie Antoinette…… i’m assuming chaos ensues – and I can’t wait! I will be a part of the blog tour this January! The Giver Graphic Novel. This was a book that was a turning point for my adult reading life. When I got back into reading, I read this quartet in the span of a few days.

A huge thank you to Penguin for these next two books! LET’S GO SWIMMING ON DOOMSDAY by Natalie C Anderson is one that I’m both nervous yet excited for. It sounds like a really difficult read, but one I think will be interesting from the perspective of a young boy. He is forced to be a child soldier and then becomes a spy. When he’s forced into a suicide bombers vest, is when he finally becomes free. Living on the streets, his brother is arrested for stealing and he’s forced to face a past that he’s been trying to escape.

WHEN THE SKY FELL ON SPLENDOR by Emily Henry sounds really interesting! It’s described as The Serpent King Meets Stranger things…. you had me at Stranger Things! A devastating accident kills and injured many people in this small town. A group of friends gets together and starts recording videos for YouTube like local ghost stories. But one night they see something fall from the sky that changes their lives….. I NEED TO KNOW!

PHYSICAL BOOKS:

SKYWARD by Brandon Sanderson was a MUST for me! It’s Brandon Sanderson, science fiction, and a girl who wants to be a pilot – YES PLEASE! One of my goals in 2019 is to read as much Brandon Sanderson as possible, so this book and THE WAY OF KINGS will bring me two books closer to that goal! Also, WILDCARD by Marie Lu is a sequel that I’ve been wanting to get to since forever! I can’t wait!

Continuing on the sequel train, we have 3 more! ARCHENEMIES by Marissa Meyer is the sequel to Renegades. I rarely read books with super hero’s, but these groups of morally grey characters with amazing powers was just fascinating! Also we have DRAGONFLY IN AMBER and VOYAGER by Diana Gabaldon. These are books 2 and 3 in the Outlander series and I need more Jamie Fraser in my life!

A REAPER AT THE GATES by Sabaa Tahir is one that I’ve been DYING to read! I loved the first two more than I expected to and finished them back to back. Then there is HAMMERED by Kevin Hearne, which is book 3 to the Iron Druid chronicles – which is one of my all time favourite fantasy series! And lastly for sequels we have THE GIRL IN THE TOWER by Katherine Arden. This is book two following The Bear and the Nightingale, which was just so atmospheric! I can’t wait to read this one when the snow is falling!

I went on Twitter asking for some recommendations and THE JADE CITY by Fonda Lee came up a few times. I found it on sale at the book store so I picked it up 🙂 Also on sale was THE CAGED QUEEN by Kristen Ciccarelli, which is a sequel to The Last Namsara which I still haven’t read. But now I can binge read! Next is THE TATTOOIST OF AUSCHWITZ, which is a historical fiction that I keep hearing about!

The last 2 physical books are ones that I just COULDN’T pass up! TESS OF THE ROAD by Rachel Hartman is a book that one of my favourite YouTuber’s can’t stop talking about! Piera Forde has reading tastes similar to mine and it ended up in her top books of 2018. And then there’s a middle grade!! TILLY AND THE BOOKWANDERERS (PAGES & CO #1) by Anna James seems to be everywhere lately! The premise of a girl who can travel into books sounds like so much fun!

EBOOKS FOR MY NEW KINDLE!

Soooooo……. yeah…… ok…… let me explain! Yes, I already own physical copies of this trilogy! But I bought these for two reasons. One – It’s Jay Kristoff! You’re not surprised! Two – the font is SO SMALL in the physical copies! I haven’t read these yet because my eyes couldn’t handle it. Now I can make the font as big as I want!

Next are three science fictions that I couldn’t be more excited for!!! CHILDREN OF TIME by Adrian Tchaikovsky has been getting talked about so much lately. Especially my bookish twin Justine! The next book, A BIG SHIP AT THE EDGE OF THE UNIVERSE by Alex White, was totally a cover buy! That was until I read the synopsis and I can’t stop thinking about it! Then we have ANNEX by Rich Larson. Another beautiful cover with an interesting premise! I’m in the mood to read all the sci-fi lately!

Once again, BEHIND THE THRONE by K.B. Wagers was a recommendation to me on Twitter. I never would have seen this book if it wasn’t for that recommendation! So thanks! THE DARKEST MINDS by Alexandra Bracken is a book that I’ve been considering for YEARS! When I found it for less than 2$ I couldn’t pass it up. THE SISTERS OF THE WINTER WOOD by Rena Rossner is another book that I saw from my bookish twin Justine – just look at that cover!

Let’s just say – kindle deals are the devil! These three are ones that I couldn’t pass up at less than 2$! A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES by Deborah Harkness has been hyped up quite a bit lately. I LOVE a good witch book! Speaking of witches, I also snagged HOCUS POCUS AND THE ALL NEW SEQUEL! I’ll probably save this for October 🙂 And then there’s NEVERNIGHT by Jay Kristoff………. why when I already own a copy?? WHY NOT?!

FINALLY we have the last 3 books I got in December! These are 2 historical fictions that I’ve wanted to read for a while. First is CODE GIRLS by Liza Mundy, which follows women who deciphered code during the war. Then we have THE ATOMIC CITY GIRLS by Janet Beard. I’ve heard great things about this one! And finally we have THE LIBRARIAN OF AUSCHWITZ byAntonio Iturbe, which follows a girl keeps and cares for books that are forbidden at Auschwitz.

Flower divider

That’s the end! This post took forever to put together! But here that was all 34 books I received and purchased this month! If you made it to the end – you must have the patience of a saint! LOL! I hope this isn’t a trend though – Kindle deals are evil! It’s so hard to pass up books that are 2$!!! I hope I can keep myself under control!! As great as this haul is, I am SO overwhelmed! I don’t know what to read next!

Until next time, happy reading!

    1. I read the first two chapters of Let’s go Swimming on Doomsday last night and I wanted to keep going. It’s early to tell, but I love her writing! I think I’ll devour it quickly!

I know I should get a Kindle, for the sake of space, but when I read e-books online, it just didn’t work for me. Maybe one day, though.

I asked for The Tattooist of Auschwitz for Christmas but ended up buying it for myself. I also read Tess of the Road at Piera’s recommendation over the summer and I really enjoyed it. The Darkest Minds is a super fun read as well.

    1. I’ve fought off getting a kindle for the LONGEST time. I’ve tried reading ebooks online and on my phone and I hated the experience. It didn’t feel the same. But I will admit – the kindle paperwhite actually feels like you’re reading a book. I’m about to finish my first book on it today and, strangely enough, I read faster than a physical book! I still prefer physical books. I like to see them on my shelf. But I’m really happy with the kindle 🙂 hope that helps you decide if it will work for you!

I’ve got The Binding & Nevernight on my TBR and I have a hard copy of The Girl in the Tower which I need to read before The Winter of the Witch comes out (I’m so desperately waiting)! I read The Sisters of the Winter Wood last year and picked it because of the gorgeous cover but I didn’t rate it so highly unfortunately – it will be interesting to get your thoughts!

Recently ordered Hounded based on the recent gushing from you and Kiersten. Now let’s see when I actually get around to it! Also, you should sign up to get BookBub emails now that you have a kindle. Discount books in your inbox every day. Just be warned: it’s a good way to end up with a hundred unread ebooks on your kindle. (not that I’m talking from experience… happened to a friend of mine…)

Amazing! I read The Tattooist of Aushwitz and I highly recommend it. It was pretty eye opening with an inside look into what people went through during WWII. Sad story but beautiful example of human resilience.
