We’ve all said it before – “too many books, too little time.” And god is this true! We have TBR piles that threaten to topple over and crush us under their weight, yet we still keep adding to them! We also have a list of books that we want to get to SO BADLY yet, when the year comes to a close, we realize we never got to them. If you’re anything like me, that list is long. Since I did the TBR unhaul challenge this year, I actually forced myself to read some of my own books that I had backlisted for the longest time. I managed to get to a lot of books/series that I’d been telling myself for years that I would read. I still have quite a few that I didn’t get to though. But, since this is a top 5 list, I’ll just be talking about the 5 books that I swore to myself that I would read this year.
Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme where I explore different topics. If you are interested in participating I would love to have you! Here is a list of my Upcoming topics in DECEMBER – please remember to ping back a specific post of mine so I get a notification and I will add you to the participants list!
A REAPER AT THE GATES by Sabaa Tahir
WHY?! Why haven’t I gotten to this? OH I know – I was too broke to buy it when it came out lol. I read the first two books in this series last year and LOVED them far more than I ever expected to. The characters and the world sucked me in and wouldn’t let go! When I finished the second book I needed the third immediately – yet, here we are, months after the books release, and I still haven’t picked it up….. *hides in shame*
THE UNSEEN WORLD by Liz Moore
This book isn’t talked about all that often. But the people that have read it all rave about it like crazy! As soon as I read the synopsis I wanted to read it, but when it was newly released it was over 40$, which I refuse to pay. I managed to find it on sale through book depository last year and I was so excited to get to it…….. that worked well. Fail!
THE LIES OF LOCKE LAMORA by Scott Lynch
A good friend of mine read this last year and told me all about it. Our reading tastes are similar so I knew that I would love it, and ordered it using Christmas money last year….. that’s right – christmas last year! From what my friend told me about it, it’s hilarious and it’s fantasy! So why haven’t I read it? Because I know I’ll love it, that’s why! LOL! Seriously though, I haven’t started it yet because I’ve got so many series on the go right now and I’m afraid to start another one that I’ll be obsessed with until I get caught up. I WILL be reading it in 2019 though! I promise!
THE POWER by Naomi Alderman
Yet another book makes this list that I got last Christmas. I wanted it SO badly and I wanted to read it immediately! But, being a mood reader, I haven’t felt that it was the right time to pick it up yet. When will I feel in the mood for it? No one knows…. just being honest.
THE DIVINERS by Libba Bray
This book has ended up on multiple TBR’s throughout 2018 I believe. I’ve put it on my immediate TBR shelf many times. I even sat it on the table with the intent for it to be the next book that I picked up. But did I ever crack open the cover? No….. not yet. No matter how many times I intended to read it, I never even tried. Another one I plan to read in 2019……. I won’t hold my breath lol!

But I really do hope that NONE of these end up on a list of books I didn’t read in 2019! What books did you leave unread this year?
Until next time, happy reading!
Oh!! I left War Sto off my list! Probably because I didn’t enjoy King’s cage… but I still want to finish the series!!!

A Reaper at the Gates is on my list too!! GAH! I’m so upset with myself for not reading it yet. But I’m also a bit terrified of it?? At this point, maybe I’ll just wait to read it until the fourth one comes out 😂

I’m still trying to get around to An Ember in the Ashes, and I’d also like to The Lies of Locke Lamora in 2019. Let’s see if I’m still saying the same thing this time next year!

I nearly didn’t read A Reaper but …. I took a rain check on the top 5 this week given family circumstances I am sorry Shanah. I simply could not focus to write seomthing witty or … But OK if I had to choose some of mine I’d say City of Brass and I Stop Somewhere (and I know you liked both!)…

I’ve got “The Diviners” on my shelf, and I’ve finished it — but I’ve got no desire to read the rest of the series because they’ve redone the covers and now mine won’t match!

It is tragic when the calendar moves faster than you can read. I too am left with several much anticipated titles – a few of which I’ll try to squeeze in before year end.

Patience is not a virtue I posses :)!! I have a whole stack of “what is wrong with me?” books. I clearly wanted to read them and yet they are still sitting there while I contemplate re-reading other books.
